It depends, for air heavy mobs yes you want CVs with fighters + strong AA overall, but vs a boss with high AA + plane hell your carriers will do less dmg to the boss + potentially get detected sooner which reduces their damage, also for bossing you usually want your CVs to have more torp + dive bombers than fighters
