These are the characters in the Elite Ships pool for the Guild Shop. Helena, Cleveland, London, and Unicorn are all good off the bat, although Helena tends to be used in later-game. London is a DPS heavy cruiser who turns into a really strong gunboat once her retrofit is complete. Helena causes all your other ships to do more damage. Cleveland has A LOT of anti-air, and is fairly sturdy on top of that. Unicorn is a great healer for your mob fleet.
Dace and Vestal aren't used much, although once you get subs, you can get Dace just to have a second.
Vestal is a repair ship, but they aren't actually that good at healing, so are primarily used in chapter 12 and 13 as AA platforms. Arizona's a decent barraging battleship with a heal, but the heal only occurs at 50% chance, so she's not usually worth taking over someone that does more damage
Of the rare ships, the only one I'd recommend is Phoenix, since you have Portland, Nelson and Rodney fulfill your need for battleships, and Unicorn is a healer just like Shouhou. Amazon and Fletcher are really meh.

You're welcome. Although I just realized we never actually gave fleet advice. For now, you'll want a single fleet. Portland/Cleveland or London/starter would be a good option for vanguard, and for your main fleet, Rodney or Nelson, Unicorn, Kirishima would work for now, although personally I like double carrier for mob fleet, so you could use Long Island instead.

Pretty much what I mentioned before. Get Cleveland from the guild shop, and run Rodney or Nelson, Hiryuu, Unicorn, Laffey, Cleveland, Portland.
For now, I think that's going to do a lot more for you than trying to run two fleets.

Retrofit Laffey as you can as well; don't neglect the hardmode stages, since you can only do 3 a day, and they're one of the few places to get retrofit BPs

If you want a healer right away and you can't buy her from the shop (if you can't refresh), you can also buy Shouhou from the Rare Ships section.
They're easier to get if you're in a guild, but they aren't terribly tough to get even if you aren't, especially now that they've added the public guild

I would. They're pretty tough to get, and can gate your retroprints pretty hard if you don't get lucky during hard modes.

Always try to limit break the ships you're using. Priority for retrofit should be Portland, starter, and then anyone else you're using. Helena' is actually fairly low priority for retro because it doesn't do a huge amount for her. If you're going to use the bunnies, I'd retro them first.

Prinz Eugen is alright but she’s not amazing for a gold-rarity ship.
She is very durable once levelled up to around 100+ though
