I have a slight feeling that I've been using the wrong gear for ships haha

use purple twin 152 for watarase, purple helldiver over the btd and use two yellow barracudas (use purple tenzans if you dont own any) on amagi, double toolbox on laffey, blue camo paint over fire extinguisher on portland, purple fire control radar and purple white shell on nelson

and bring the gear youre using to +8 minimally, preferably +10

#

blue equips cap at +7 so just bring them there

#

yellow plates are scarce so just stick to +10

have you used ectl before? their gearing recs are decent for newbie

honestly gear has been by far the most confusing

my advice is just open more purple/yellow tech boxes

its your only source of gear early game

cuz farming maps for gear not worth it

and also give the equip guide ender recommended earlier a read
