Returning to the game from a long break and need some tips. Everything I have is pretty outdated so any ideas for fleets/which ships to focus on would be really appreciated

focus on one or two fleets instead of spreading your self across a ton of ships. Once you have a good core, you can use them to bring up other ships.
samhearts compendium of guides has a newbie guide and gear guide, which can help you with fundamentals if you forgot them or never learned them

yes, if you tune your strikes to 20 seconds
her retro makes her good with BBs when they use the HPFCR or Table
