You can safely dismantle those cranes (Ship Maintenance) that you've got up to +8 and +5, and use the money/plates elsewhere, you will never need those things and will get plenty of BPs for more if someday you want one for some reason.

As a general rule of thumb at the start, don't ever equip anything that isn't at least +6 (ideally +10). Early on, you will have a shortage of purple plates, but that disappears pretty quickly for all but the purple aux plates.
