in order to retrofit a ship u need retrofit blueprints which u can get from hard mode stages and u get some one off extras if u do hard mode 3*

also flagship position tanks the most, and the leftmost position in the vanguard also takes the most dmg so those spots are usually filled with someone that can tank

also one more thing higher rarity does not mean its better in most cases so bear that in mind
