Okay... uhh torpedo aiming 101... if you are willing to listen to this Ted talk.

Start out at like around 4-5 km from a ship, sometimes helps if they're already turning and you can match their turn (ie your torpedos drop or will hit when they turn broadside into your dropped torps). Torps often will require lead on them so just dropping off the tip of the bow will do no good, imagine a ships length or more depending on the ship.
I know it's going to sound scummy but use BBs are your primary practice grounds for torpedos and honestly use the torps on them for the most part (cruisers are an option once you're comfortable with them)

can also do AA cause of its high velocity proxy fuze shell
it has a .50 of its own

downsides?
it's a bit slow, but workable
