French balance is I get citdeled by everything when I play French cruiser but the overpen French cruiser when I shoot at it with anything

It is thine citadels, you aim for the waterline to make your shells explode inside of cit by using water to arming the shell early

A lot of ship have thine cits, if you aim at the lower structure, you will over pen cause it doesn't have enough distant and time to arm it and explode it inside, you want to aim at water so it is arm by water, shells then shoot into cits and explode.

That's why some people just sit full board-side when someone is shooting at them because the person who shoot doesn't know it, they though oh boardside dev strike or cits, but no they shoot it wrong and all they got overpens

What if I take sonar on my US CLs, and DFAA on my US CAs

Since I can't switch (useless) fighter for either one I have to pick either sonar or DFAA

DM can get away using DFAA though not all too recommended (IMO since her AA is already good enough) and DM will usually take a "close in"-ish position where hydro (sonar) can be used to some decent effect on your opponent
for the other CAs yeah hydro all the way
with CLs you should get all 3, Hydro(Sonar), DFAA, and Radar..
