there are waves of anime watchers

the early adopters are the ones who are excited enough about an anime to spend $10+ on a subscription and are invested

the early adopters but poorer are the ones who are basically the same but dont have money to spend on anime

these two waves are most likely to rate an anime favoritably near the release

then you have the "ill watch the season after it's all over" people who are mildly interested but dont have the anime as a top priority enough to watch it the same season it comes out

these are less likely to rate the anime as highly

then the "ender recommended this anime, so i guess ill watch it" wave will try it out, but wont really like it enough to give it 5/5 since it's possibly not even their genre to begin with

then over the years, the rest of the reviews will fill with the "guess ill browse the popular anime section of crunchyroll to find something to watch while i wait for one piece to release" people who will rate an anime 1/5 because they don't even like it but they're bored out of their mind and need something to play on their second monitor while playing roblox
