Basically, Char’s Counterattack was successful enough to warrant multiple novel versions to be written of it back in the 80s and the one that the Hathaway books follow happens to be one with some discrepancies with the original CCA film. That’s what I understand at least.

but even then under most definitions isekais would fall under high fantasy on basis of 'epic (in a literal sense of this word) story about characters going on adventure and facing tribulations to achieve some grandious goal (like defeating the demon king or a god or whatever chuuni shit)
primary world is mostly irrelevant in the process other than to provide a lens through which protagonist sees the secondary world and even then quite often they forget about it halfway through story

I would agree if it wasn't for the fact that Isekais draw so much from video game mechanics that it becomes an entirety different genre. The primary world still influences the characters thinking, whereas a proper high fantasy, the main character understands the world as the world they live in. To me, it does play a lot of relevance because isekais like Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement hinges on it
