Has anyone encountered this phrase before
This LN I'm reading keeps on spamming this phrase over and over again to describe a character

Huh
ALEA NO
OEL (Original English Languange) comic
it's not an American comic since it was launched globally in digital format (not sold with physical format first in NA region, nor sold in a digital comic website specific for NA region)
you can see stuff similar like that which published on Webtoon
and Tapas (publisher of TBATE)
but yeah, in short you can simply call it as comic
but if someone ask you if TBATE is a manhwa or not, tell them it's an OEL comic
you ever heard of Dog Ningen a.k.a Dog N-word before? that one is an OEL comic as well
but that one isn't a digital long strip comic like TBATE
I have actually heard of that one
is it the one where the guy turns into a dog and lewds his father?
I only knew that he want to rape his father yeah, but I don't actually read it except for the first chapter so idk
i havent touched it, but I know of its existence for the memes
tbate is gas gas gas on the feels
im getting worn out
im missing the amazing humor
there isnt enough tess
just read the novel if you don't wait for too long for proper continuation of the comic
worst situation we will not getting any continuation until the end of 2024
until they can find a new artist for it
the situation between the original artist and publisher was kinda sad
the contract terminated while the artist just working on the first chapter of new season
fucking Tapas

source: artist's instagram post
oh im about to dw
im almost caught up
the beginning after 20 million death flags
i hate that the author timeskipped alot of character developments
to what chapter does tbate manga 175 correspond
chapter 108 was the mid part of the training arc, so try to find starting from that (according to my friend)
Indeed
Kekw
139
Even though I read the manga, and I know this is azusa , but when she did this I thought it was vermouth
Vermouth disguised herself as azusa once actually

im having post alea depression
This episode of apoth was alright
Kinda disappointed with this weeks Returners being filler
because they are apparently ending the season with ||The stoppage of the magus tower raid||
Yes, amuro u met him in the train , and he is the one who disguised as haibara
Also thank u for making him smile

Regardless, it’s stupid
it's by zyugoya
Who now
their manga chapters got alot of upvotes on r/manga when they were ongoing
Hm

i think they only draw one petite character ever
it's in their single mother series
i read their series
the start of their latest two was unbearable
well
idk about the hyena one
the hyena one looked like only fanbox bait
the single mother one is pretty good
i could recommend it
it's about monsters fitting into human society
Still reading the sleepy princess one
@somber relic have you read this work of theirs?
Hey guys
There's a certain shitty anime that broke a record that you don't wanna break
Worst rated episode on imdb
At 1.2 out of 10
Guess which anime it is
that edgy shadow dude?
@ivory mauve Is it correct to say... A milf is patting a milf?
I just finished reading this. Yes this is fact
I'm on the KotD episode where they introduced the Laos character
I'm hella edad
So
Are you Chinese or Japanese?

I like how Hank isn't racist, just genuinely ignorant

Young employee Haruhiko Sanezawa is approached by Yuiko Monou, who is referred to as the “Queen” at the workplace and is known for being severe and feared. Haruhiko gets confused when she asks him to a hotel following a drinking event. She asks him, “Can you have a baby with me?” with an unexpected request in a shy manner
I found hope

this resting point took too damn long
but this is a hentai plot?
Idk
ive read this same plot severa times
I haven't read the novel yet
I'm still deciding if i wanna study my finals or read the novel

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY
literally two chapters of happy

THIS WEEK IN SLF
they added alot this week that wasnt in the manga
for a good benefit
Next week is the Iron ruins and farming
but this week added the following: ||Added alot more weight when Vash was ascending Sunraku's weapons, along with him singing||
Oh jesus christ
the mini is funny as hell
and also cringe
but funny cringe between the three mc's
Also this is a good face for the context of the scene.
New character means new VA. Bilac is voiced by Miyu Tomita (Miko in Kaguya-sama, Riko in Made in Abyss, and Inda Karane in Hyakkano).
oh yeah she shows up this episode too
and since she isnt a one and done char
she should be around this season a bit
since it's a 2cour
MEDIEVAL ERA HELLO??????????????????????????????????????????

His hair looks like an overgrown potato
I'm didnt finish the anime but as far as i watch, every eps has crying scene
That one ww1 isekai had panzer iiis, m1 garands, soviet railguns, and Swiss smgs in ww1
Also the Romanian uniforms are inaccurate but the other factions are fine

Like 2 hours ago
Hold on there I'm only in chapter 3.

Soooo i can't give a concrete answer
Like so far?
Pretty generic start so a 5/10
I'm kinda split if this was a good year for movies and TV shows
Wtf
Also , he's involved in the case that got Ron to be stripped of his deduction license
9
I believe
That or 12
One of the two

Don’t worry the current emperor doesn’t care about seeing her at night
He likes older women

Okay
Previous emperor sucked though
Nope
Just young, and she even acts young too so it’s not like she’s just 25 year old in a young persons body
14 during the times of the story
Canonically
I swore it was 12 or something
She was 9 when she was made the consort of the previous king though
14
Wait she was 9
Mmhm

The previous lolicon king yes
Previous king was a pedo
She was from that episode that explained them and thier ages
Though that is explained more in the story
She's voiced by same va as tsukuyo from gintama
Dw age in old time is irrelevant
Now drop kick the child, that's what technoblade would have wanted
That's happened irl before

Wtf
The emperor have a little brother

Isn’t it just
yes
Ohh
that happens
I remember
(i got spoiled myself)
A what

The joke here is that the title is referring to one of those typical western porn ads
Also- if you're playing this game
You're definitely at least halfway to being a weeb
So lol
Pot, meet kettle
Yeah
Insert boo womp sound effect
Ok that's fair

fuck tessia
tessia?
from tbate
I love the crunchyroll basement guy
I was curious how comics credit people
There is a few notes
DC Comics uses "illustrators" while Marvel uses "artists"
2000 AD refer to their artists as "robots"
Comics that are were created on a short deadline in quick succession usually separate the roles inkers, colorists, pencillers, etc
Manga foregoes any of this because culture ig
Usually the the writer/"main" artist will get credit
Which come to think about, is kinda sad
Also, TV franchises are little bit weird in how they do credits
Opening or closing or both?
So like the X-Files comics (Topps, yes they did have a publishing division) credits a lot of producers from the show
It's strange
True
I come to think
Manga publishers just don't bother to credit the assistances
I don't know why
I know someone will try to defend this pratice

Yea

Lmao
I was only able to find one example
None of the English copies have any
Only one of my Japanese manga has it
It's not even a consistent practice
Now, I do have like 8 series in Japanese, one being written by a Korean
Usually just ads at the end
Yea, it's pretty fucked up
usually they only get credited if the artist'll go out of their way to mention them when they get a chance which I see sometimes, but not that often
or if the assistant makes it big as mangaka themselves and people start caring where else they worked
I literally just disapproved an article on ANN
100gf anime literally playing an almost remix of mission impossible theme
idk feels something niche to bitch about
but I care because I hate when people's work go unnoticed

most manga, manhwa and manhua never put assistant names in the credit page yeah
who knows the reason why

kinda sad but well
I guess it's just Eastern Asian things
and no I'm not trying to defend them, just in case if this frosty guy misunderstood what I'm trying to say and accuse me as "manga apologist" again
that's the fact and I can't do nothing about that
ToG did mentioned assistant name in chapters credit tho, but that's one of exception
mangaka occasionally mentioned the assistant's work if they work on a serialiazation, it's usually on their social media account, so they didn't noticed by us foreigner until social media account that actively posting news about manga (in English like MangaMogura) become more active since during covid period
?
I didn't accuse you
I would've named draw dropped someone if I was accusing them

It's weird...
Like
They do it for movie/tv show productions they list everybody

OH BOY I WONDER WHY
¯_(ツ)_/¯
which article\
I hate how she brushes it off
It seems she doing her best to downplay the issue
if you read first until third paragraph, what they said was true though
in afterword of tankobon volumes
I actually did
I own japanese manga
well not all manga have them, but there are lot of them that have that
just 8. yeah
They aren't small series anyways
Assistants are also frequently mentioned in the extra “day in the life” comics at the end of some manga volumes
this is true at least
"some"
The broader issue
Is that it isn't standard to have their names on the works they worked on
I know about the bigger issue, but at that point publisher is the root of the problem
Assistants come and go, I know
The comic industry had this shit figured out
idk, maybe because comic industry a lot of the people did go on to work on other series
the manga "demographic" itself is a mess thanks to the pubs
I don't like this article because it downplays the issue
As if it's something trivial
what? I think they don't try to downplay the issue
did we read different article here or what
maybe you need to reread again before going emotional
Or maybe we have different attitude towards the subject
It's like walking into a bar and listening to someone's divorce
no? I agree about assistant should have credited in proper way
but mangaka also have their own way to help their assistant
I don't think you understand what I am saying. We both know it's bad, just one cares more about it than the other
It's honestly not a hard ask...
But people are subborn
🤷♂️
lol so you are trying to say that you care more about the issue than me? ok bud
but you are also the one who tried to say the article writer tried to downplay the issue
You know I don't just read manga

yeah you think I only read manga as well?

why are you always trying to throw ad hominem
that's not even ad hominem looool
what are you trying to say then next?
this was based on my conversation with you here for many times
You think I just have a 2D perspective on this
yeah you also consume another stuff and not just manga, and then what?
the fuck is "2d perspective" lmao
so, what are you trying to say here then hmm?
I don't know what you getting at
You fishing for something that isn't deep
You realize, ad hominem doesn't make my agrument wrong either
ok, calling someone downplaying an issue
how about you point out where is the part when the article author tried to downplay the issue

because you are just talking non sense at this point
yeah I understand about your opinion about assistant should properly credited, but after that I'm completely confused
disprove about what exactly?
There are numerous examples of assistants going on to publish related works -- for example, Boruto is drawn by Mikio Ikemoto, one of Masashi Kishimoto's former assistants while he was working on Naruto. Manga creators also sometimes help promote their assistant's solo works, such as Kōhei Horikoshi's shout-outs for Yoko Akiyama, an assistant who works on My Hero Academia who has also launched her own manga series, Saguri-chan Tankentai(Saguri-chan Expedition Party).
here, if you are actually trying to dive deeper, you can prove that what they said is true
The author tries to trivialize the problem as if it's not a common practice to not credit the assitances. It occasionally makes concessions like they aren't credited on the "weekly" mags, but primarily focuses on the net positives
You are unable to read between the lines
It is true what they said, but ignores the greater reality
the reason why there were no credit in magazine but in volume instead because well, the chapter published in magazine, until it compiled into a volume/tanko release
manga publication isn't like western graphic novel, most manga published in a manga magazine each chapter
It's like citing the life national expectancy numbers and ignoring any stats for local level
Yeah it's true, but ignores the fundamental problems
But hey
I'm just being obtuse

You really are an apologist. I was gonna refrain from it, but here you are

can you please tell me what apologist mean, by your definition then
You say you support crediting assistants, then you try to defend them not doing it
Also comic published weekly for the longest time and still credit the assitants
You defending literally everything even if it's bad
no? I'm just trying to explain the current state about the work flow between mangaka and their assistant
and I swear I already mentioned that you should blame the publisher for that
not the mangaka
I never pointed the blame at anyone
mangaka's own series can get axed by pubs anytime, as if they actually hold some power
unless they have big name
you did though
I just made a blanket statement that said assistants should be crdited
You literally
Are making a fuss
Over me pointing out a problem
Why the fuck are we even agruing
At the end of the day, we still gonna consume it
also I'm still wondering what is apologist mean here
Well consult the oracle
huh??? ok??
Cause I already explained
ok, I'm just agreeing about some part of your opinion and you said I'm not gonna listen to whatever you said
wow
You only agreed to my opinion and none of the reasons

so I'm begging the question
Why are we even agruing
Apparently, it's a big enough problem to mention
Yet both of us have totally different atitudes toward the subject
I mean, you said you don't blame anyone, but there is no way that someone read what you said above and then they think you aren't trying to blame someone here
just said it if you think it's mangaka fault, publisher fault or the entire industry's fault
You seem to enjoy expressing vague statements, as if you're trying to provoke someone into arguing with you
in this case, I'm just trying to ask which part of the author's article that you disproved
I'm not even defending the way of manga industry work
You failed to realize that you accusing me of provoking people into agruments, and yet here you are calling me out

but you admitted it here anyway?
My guy, you cannot even read inbetween the lines

I saw your edited emote
You are confusing
Because your whole agrument
Is that I'm vague to provoke someone
.
But I never call out someone in particular to avoid arguing
And you just make assumptions instead of asking
You are literally accusing me of things you do too
you technically calling out the article writer though, am I wrong?
you said you disproved their article
Now you moving the goal post

We went from "you accusing the mangaka ok I was wrong" to "you calling out the writer"
what? aren't we still sticking to the topic about ANN post you linked here?
bruh
but that's still relevant though?
don't act like it's not relevant
you were the one who posted the link here even
and proudly said that you disproved their article
You accused me of accusing the mangaka for not creditting assitances
And then you went around to say "oh you called out this author"

Dude
I know your game
You just being agrumentative
Two people can read the article and walk away with two different takes
You can see it as right and non-problematic, others can intrepret differently
You get upset when someone doesn't agree with you
you see, I guess this is what I don't like the most, that (at least for me) you tried to framed me to have a completely different opinion about that matter
and I guess that's also why I can't accept it when you called me out as "manga apologist"
Right
if you ask about my perspective, it's just that the way the industry going on now, and as much I don't like it, I also can't do anything about it
I haven't had the chance to backread yet
it's because you defend manga to a fault. Every problem that someone raises, you chalk it to industry
which is true
But I think it'll be a good place to stop
.
you are just love to complain for the sake of it
this is my opinion too
So that makes my criticism invalid?
it's valid, but it's also not as bad as you think
That's a matter on who you ask
i interpret it as not right and non-problematic
Like if you ask a rich person's stance on a housing crisis, they wouldn't see an issue

the gain that an assistant would get from being listed publically is not that high
you get promotions through connections
the people who run the magazine for the series know the assistants, even if the public doesn't
and yeah, this is exactly why I blamed the industry (again)
of course one of real solution is if MAYBE, manga author and assistant trying to unite and fight the big companies
but personally I don't like it when I touch topic about imagining about something that might be happen or not
idkd, maybe I come from a western perspective where it's actually common for people to credit on multiple pages. It's also useful for looking through who worked on what because even if the publishers know, their legacy may not be perserved. It's something I am passionated about
well, at very least manga database site like Anilist try to put credit on manga assistant, even translator (official one) to the entries
still need a lot of work but at least we are starting from something now
It is absolutely a cultural thing
It is hard unless it's been explicitly said
it's hard but not impossible
but yeah I have to admit it's not easy, even I usually don't want to bother to add info about manga assistant in one manga entry
but well at least it's better than nothing right?
The reason why we know so much about comic history is because the people worked on them were credited a lot. It's easy to trace who worked on what for how much and why
It also because I have limited access to Japanese resources too
But I just notice western records are just extremely better than most Asian sources. It's almost scary how much things are recorded and archived in the West from the last 200 years ago
i hate to be that guy
but colonialism happened
and guess what the westerners did to non western records
🔥 🔥
not sure about its extent in asia
but it definitely happened in south america and africa
It's not too bad in the more traditional, older Asian countries
In the smaller ones however...
The last 100 years still should have good records
even disregarding colonialism, theres also internal conflicts that happen within a country
I don't know why, I have to dig into it. But it seems (me speculating) that they don't really care much about keeping records of non-notable people
in fact hold on
isn't that like a global thing though
theres a reason why the term "famous" exists
Maybe it's just the US, but all works must have one copy submitted to library of congress
yea, that's why proper credit matters
they do. it's more like that we foreigner don't have a lot of access to it
there is also languange barrier issue
and not waving it off as 'cultural thing'
I stated that before
credit matters yes
I know how hard it is
Cause I did try to attempt to research in Japanese sources
But old Japanese internet hard to find
I guess this is the time for us foreigner to cancel manga publisher company on twitter so they finally want to put a proper credit (assuming they care)

That's assuming if twitter notices
twitter is dying anyway
I didn't even notice this

Until I was trying to figure out the difference between Illustrator and Artist
artist is a more universal word
illustrator specifically relates to picture drawing
yes
Well, it's a little bit more confusing
the reason why we mentioned a person who draw the manga as "artist" because well, it's habitual I guess?
also to make difference with a person who only draw (light) novel illustration
otherwise it will confusing
My definition is an illustrator is an artist you commission from (assuming artist does drawing). Like you don't say child book's artist. Yet, we say comic book artist, but then DC says calls their artists "illustrators"
i mean
People who do adwork are also called illustrators, etc
all illustrators are artists but not all artists are illustrators
It is
people who draw pictures for advertisements are illustrators yes
terms used to refer to people are not mutually exclusive
But I heard that "illustrator" was used derogatorarily, as in not seen as "real" art by the high arts ig
It's confusing
heard from where?
maybe in this case, just mention what kind of artist specifically
since this is anime manga channel, it's not hard to assume when someone mentioned "artist", it most likely a manga artist
But my definition is an illustrator is an artist you commission to do work for
I'm also in a music discord server and when someone mentioned "artist", I will not assumed they are talking about manga artist
i just assume you can tell from context yea
or i just say ln artist / manga artist whenever it applies
it's just semantic issue
ofc semantic is important though
like the issue with manga "demographic" here
I'll have to look into it
well that one wasn't really a semantical issue though
more like a misconception
"Artist" is a general word, but it also implies work done for the sake of it
no it doesn't...
maybe you haven't heard the words used in other contexts before
Cause traditionally children's books are called illustrations, cover art is also called "illustrations"
Remember, I have a very western point of view
ln artists are credited as illustrators
manga demographic issue is a different matter, because the understanding of "shounen is a manga for kid and teen ony" is blatantly wrong and can be fatal
Perhaps, it's because the writer/artist aren't technically on the "same team". As in, a writer and illustrator doing their own things
Like, an illustrator gonna do some other stuff in between while the LN guy is writing
But a mangaka is gonna be constantly working with the writer
So I guess that's why the distinction
My theory anyhow
i think its just a translation thing
Here's a definition from art-insider
cause im looking at the jp cover for a manga like food wars, which has a different person for story and art
Have you ever wondered, what is the difference between an artist and an illustrator? Did you know that both are entirely different concepts? If your answer is no to both, keep reading this article for some interesting stats. An artist is a person who is involved in works that are done as an expression of […]
and they just credit it as
story: person
art: person
I'm still stand this
But the way I mentally separate them is how they are treated
I did touch on this #anime-manga message
yeah, exactly what I said before regarding mangaka and LN illustrator

it can be super confusing
words have multiple meanings wao
Honestly, it just comes down to the prestige tbh
Some like to be called the other, some due to culture or industry practices
thats not due to prestige
thats due to personal preference, either by the person or their employer
regarding this statement i mean
Are you gonna walk up to van Gogh and call him an "illustrator"
touche
kek
But the point is, it carries different weight in what sector you in
If you in the high arts, illustrators are look down
Their is a few exceptions
Ironically, to challenge that notion
maybe in the past, but i don't think its relevant anymore
isn't that not really on topic for this channel though? since I don't see the reason why japanese illustrators looked down by other
personally i believe the work speaks for itself
I come from a western perspective... whatever country you in may have a different take
the label(s) you assign to the work / creator are whatever
if the work is good its good

I am trying to find that artist name
yeah, another reason why I can't see this is relevant with #anime-manga
not trying to play as some mini-mod here, I just want to say that
and good work -> more employment -> more money -> more fame, in an ideal world at least

I mean, I could also use Andy Warhol, but that's low hanging fruit
literally almost manga artist also work as illustrator
they also got commission from people
they also work on r18 sometimes
they just don't draw manga for the entire life
Here's the points I'm laying out
sorry guys this is a very riveting conversation but i have 8 minutes to finish my honkai star rail dailies so ill be right back
- The label "illustrator" and "artist" are based on the line of work
- The terms carry different meanings based on what part of the art world you in
You can ignore the labels, but other people care
So don't be bitching when I come in calling manga comics
who did that here though?

my fault, jokes are hard to understand on the internet
I need to put more scarcasm indicators /s
I will call that a bad sarcasm, no offense
the term of "manga, manhwa, manhwa" is just the matter of where it originally published anyway
it's not about the "style"
maybe you need to take a mirror
Haru just can't read between the lines
I'm gonna just go back to whatever I was doing
If he wants to be pedantic, that's ok
was this supposed to be a joke as well then? sorry for not capable to read between the lines
I literally just followed up what you said above

I take it you're an ESL
yes I am
Yeah
.
go figure
.
I could swear Haru could be German for all I know
or French
I met enough french in another server who don't even want to bother to talk with english
most infuriating kind of people
Germans aren't funny people
...
and this still ignored anyway

I often take for granted lots of foreigners speak English, and a lot of things I say will get lost
It is 3 AM

lol and my question still got ignored
oh yeah speaking of that, I think Cad ping me here and I missed it
just use inbox
problem solved

I was listening to like that one Ado song
They good
yeah I did, not all of them though (meaning that I don't finish any work of them), but I knew enough that most of their recent work only made to promote their porn on fanbox
shes coming to austin too

I'm broke af
Scandal came down and I was shit out of luck
idk what the prices are
ah rip
🤔
I'm in college
i wanted to get radwimps tickets but their la show was on a thursday
depending on when your spring break is

Also, Scandal good band too
hol up
Y'all ain't gonna believe me when I say this
I have a signed CD from Garendelia I bought for like $5
From the duo

i don't remember the spelling on the top of my head

From both bandmates
I didn't mean to buy the one with the signatures
I just kinda got lucky ig
The seller never mentioned anything about it and had the auction for 500 yen and I just put the bare fucking minimum and won
Don't know why
Something worthy to mention
Probably was selling their whole collection and just trying to rid them
I am so confused how I came into possesion of this
I fangirled hard when I noticed
I can show the rest of my collection
they most likely already rip and scan the content inside them anyway so I assume they just want to create some space in their room/storage
But it's signed...
Isn't that something you would keep?
I only said they probably already scan and rip them, so they already have it in digital format
would be funny if I can find it on some private tracker site lul
including the sleeve scan
I never said it's fake though, I only think it's hilarious if they upload it to a private tracker site

I also want to going insane after wasting a lot of time looking for some rare CD-rip
I have a rare CD
hold on
@somber relic Find this one. 1993 copy, not the '96 copies
Genocyber
Vol II I think?
I'm praying that someone have this and already rip the content https://ec.toranoana.jp/tora_r/ec/item/210006521073/
store exclusive bs and already not available anymore
it's not even exist on youtube as well
Is there another release?
What band?
Try looking on yahoo auctions
Toranoana store bonus for "花束~best of doriko feat.初音ミク~ (Hanataba ~best of doriko feat. Hatsune Miku~)" (http://vocadb.net/Al/1013).
fucking store exclusive
oh it's available on a chinese private tracker torrent site though
but of course I don't have access to them
it's hilarious how chinese ppl got literally almost everything (pirated japanese music)
even some super obscure doujins music
not them
that's a different album from the original album https://vocadb.net/Al/1013
yeah, that was the original song of doriko ft. hatsune miku
does this one have like natural vocals?
it's singed by Hanatan ft. Marasy (technically a cover)
oh
not vocaloid one
Yeah
good luck
I have the genocyber theme song
without the vocals
which ironically hasn't been posted on the internet yet
so uh

if you actually interested with sharing stuff you owned (by ripping them), I can introduce you to some place
what is the name again? genocyber? it's japanese right?
yep, it's already ripped in a private tracker site I joined in
lol
Not surprised

1993?

it's different I guess
oh nvm I found it

Fun Fact: The instrumental version is the version heard on those old U.S. Manga Corps trailers.
