This is a short story i wrote involving Bismarck and Tirpitz inspired but this picture, hope you all enjoy this short read:
Her vision was getting dark as her body sank, so this is what dying felt like ? she always thought death would be painful and swift.....this death however she oddly welcomed as she continued to sink. Though as her vision grew darker and she felt the cold jaws of death starting to close on her she felt a warm touch on the side of her face, weakly opening her eyes she would be shocked to see the blue eyes of her sister Tirpitz who appeared to have jumped in after seeing her start to sink. Though she was dying she was conscious enough to see her was trying to raise her and save her, but both knew this was impossible as she was already dying and Tirpitz would drown if she tried to save her from this depth. Weakly looking at her sister she made her look at her as she gently shook her head trying to tell her to leave her and save herself, Tirpitz was still adamant about saving her and the look her sister gave her only served to make her try harder with the desperation clear from her movements.
this however doomed Tirpitz aswell as she found herself having grown exhausted from her attempts, so much so that even if she were to leave her sister now she would drown before she reached the surface. Bismarck knew this aswell as the two sisters looked at each other both knowing they would not survive this, knowing this the two sisters held each other as the cold jaws of death now started to close around them both, yet despite this the two were calm and welcomed death as they held onto each other even as the darkness took them.

You can try using noise texture for sand
To get that grainy look
It would take a bit of color correction & blending but it works like a charm

It would look better if you had more of the “splat” gram like the full movement of it flattening against the ground
Instead of just one frame
If you add a frame before and after one of the ball right before it hits the ground slightly less rounded before it makes impact
And then one after that impact that’s even less rounded than the current last frame

Latest mini story i wrote
She kept running as the horde was right behind her, by her side was Graf Zeppelin with Zeppy in her arms, they were hoping to make it back to their bunker quickly before the horde caught up to them. As Tirpitz ran she turned around to see how close the horde was, what she saw however made her heart stop and her blood turn to ice.....
Among the horde was Bismarck her uniform torn in several areas showing cuts and bite marks, some of the flesh on her mouth being torn off aswell. Tirpitz nearly fell over as she stared at her sister, Bismarck's eyes glowed a shade of orange just like the rest of the horde as she came closer moving with the horde "S-sister....." Tirpitz said as her body started to shake, the memories of her sister getting attacked flashing in her mind once again along with tears forming in her eyes. No response came from the corpse that was her sister.
Tirpitz was a few meters away from the horde as she was yanked by Graf Zeppelin, finally snapping back to reality Tirpitz started to run once again as she said in low tone "I'm sorry sister...." she would then reach for her gun and pause for a second taking aim and firing, the shot rang out as the bullet sailed through the air striking Bismarck in the head, Bismarck fell backwards onto the ground the light fading from her eyes. Tirpitz seeing this and confirming her sister was put to rest started to run once again catching up to Graf Zeppelin as they would just barely make it to the bunker with them closing the bulkhead shut.

Also don't be afraid to break up sentences/vary sentence length
Like, pulling a sample from your text for where I'd add comma usage:

Talk a bit about how the situation looks
Think about where the hope at the end of the tunnel is from
Could kill off a character or two but have someone escape - might go with Tirpitz since she's your focus

Or Graf Zeppelin is infected and Tirpitz gets away to safety with Zeppy ?

Well Tirpitz and Bismarck never knew each other that much so I may have it so story wise Bismarck and Tirpitz met on very few occasions but those times were special between the two sisters
Perhaps have it so Tirpitz laments on how she should've spent more time with her older sister (I always have Bismarck as the older sister of the two) but her attention being drawn to the screams of Zeppy as her mother fall to the ground unconscious as a bite mark is revealed ?

Maybe an additional bit could be to explore how Tirpitz feels about the circumstances that prevented them from meeting before, now that hindsight is kicking in
And how she heard about Bismarck's death if she'd learned about it before could be a fun one too
If they don't get to meet, she probably heard it secondhand
If there's a lull in the adrenaline you could have her process seeing her undead sister

Hmm perhaps those circumstances being work mostly on Bismarck's end keeping her occupied quite a bit
This could lead to Tirpitz blaming herself for not trying to drag her sister out of her obsession with her work
As for what you said hmm perhaps Prinz Eugen being the one who informed Tirpitz of the death of her sister ? With Bismarck being the last to leave the HQ as it was being swarmed making sure everyone else got out first and then when she was stuck she fought like a lion until the end ?

As the way I see Graf Zeppelin being bit was protecting her daughter Zeppy

Younger children with good parental relationships are often rather attached
It depends on how old you want to go for Zeppy being whether she'll fully understand
But she won't take it well
Could have Tirpitz dealing with this upset child and having to bundle her off to get ro a safer place

Hmm I'd say Zeppy would be 8 maybe 9 at most
And her seeing her mother fall unconscious to thr ground and seeing how bad the bite her mother said "I'll be fine" about would make her panic
Especially considering the location of the bite mark would be on the left shoulder
And for that story I'm going off the logic of the closer the bite is to the major blood vessels and heart/neck/head the faster it spreads
