But, even being decently large, it still could be used. If it’s less that 14 pounds total, you could swing that. And that doesn’t look nearly so heavy, maybe 8-12.

Maybe even less! The fuller takes a lot of the weight out of the blade, and you can get a well made zwei down to 5-7 pounds. Maybe even at that length.

The ceremonial display sword wasn’t really a thing, people with money had things beautifully made, and still fought in them, or with them.

Emperor maximillan is a good example of that

His armors even being very ornamental looking, we’re still hardened steel of decent thickness

3 main things:

1. Shading. It's not enough to just airbrush a side with a single tone and call it a day. The absolute minimum number of shade colours to express depth is 2. There is a good, consistent use of directional highlights to point to the light source, but you'll have to work on your shading fundalmentals, aka your basic shapes. All objects are made up of basic shapes so when you master them and learn how to visually deconstruct your subject into these shapes (For example, the leg can be approximated as a cylinder), you can pretty much shade anything.

2. Line colouring. The colours used for your lineart in a few areas, such as the skin and hair are too light, which results in it sort of just disappearing into the base colour and shading, with no clear definition between parts, such as the fingers. Colouring your lines is definitely a good step, but you have to make sure it's of a darker colour so it stands out.

3. Clothing folds. An attempt has been made to depict folds in the pants, but it both has not enough shading depth nor does it fold in a way expected of the material. You'll need to imagine how the cloth is either streched, pulled or pushed by the user, and how it responds to those forces. If it gets pulled by the body (especially by the joints), I'd expect several lines of clothing folds to radiate out of it. A good exercise is to just have a look at your own clothing (and reference images) and just observe how the fabric forms all these different folding patterns to build up your visual reference library.

There are definitely more that could be pointed out, but I believe working on these 3 would give the most immediate improvement

i actually had a 1/700 HMS Hood in bad condition, so I figured I'd turn her into a what-if carrier conversion thing

most of the hangar box was stacked cardboard that i cut and sanded to shape, but the rear bit was a folded piece so that i wouldnt have to tear off the superfiring barbette and just wrap around it

also you can see the original camo i put on her back then, but i dont have those paints anymore so i might do something new eventually

Trust me, it'll click. When I first got into AL I drew the USS Massachusetts as more like the steeltown girl she would've been, coming out of Quincy MA. In 2020 Marcia (my name for her at the time) evolved to a more masculine variant which I dubbed "Marco" and gave him the surname Plymouth. I reworked his self-inserty background from a Wachusett tribesman working at Fore River Shipyard in the 1930s, to the Bostonian grandson of a well-reputed veteran from the American Revolution. His grandma, which I named Connie after the USS Constitution, also got a bunch of lore rewriting as the 2020s progressed. Sometime in 2022-23 I renamed her to Charlotte, or Charlie.

Just last year I renamed Marco bc I thought it sounded too Italian and you can only milk the joke "Marco! Polo" for so long. His current name is Mark, formally Marcus.
