The story is set in an alternate universe wherein vtuber fans take on the forms of the mascots of the respective fandom belong to but unique to one another so they all don't look the same and they can interact with the vtubers they idolize if given the opportunity. In this setting Shiori Novella decides to open up the realm of Inkwell for people to visit after her Inkwell tour (with Aki Rosenthal and Kureiji Ollie) stream ends but the moment her stream ends Cecilia Immerred and her followers invade, all communications are suddenly cut off, any means of leaving have been tampered with. Multiple fans are trapped in Inkwell, unable to escape and the worst part is nobody knows what's happening.

Those are a close-up of Jo and Haruka’s Soul Gems.

It’s from the anime. Little power items that contain their lifeforce, and grant them their powers. Basically thanks to it, the only way to kill them is to take out their Soul Gem.

Also it has to remain within 100M of their body or else they stop moving. When they suit up, it changes into a portable form and sticks onto their body for convenience.

Rika doesn’t have a Soul Gem (yet) but Jo and Haruka do
