To force myself to get started I usually just take a massive chunk and start beating it until its softened. by then I have some sort of vague idea to go off of. If it doesn't harden while trying to work on it that might be an option

my general plan was to make it hollow by making a wire skeleton first

and then slap clay on it

Yeah wire with tape or cloth would significantly reduce how much you're using and be mad stable

the first wire attempt looked ok, might be good for a spooky creature

Depending on how big it is and if it's just a solid piece or not, you can also hollow it out by cutting it in half with a wire + scooping out the inside + "gluing" both sides back together with water and some more clay (usually super watered down clay)

tho i only twirled it which complicated stuff, so next one might be soldering

That's a method that's used for a lot of clay works since it reduces drying times by a TON and also saves you a bunch of money on materials

i suppose it also prevents cracks since the material has space to shrink

You just have to ensure you keep a thick enough casing that's consistent throughout both sides, and I think usually an air hole? And it's pretty much good to go

That'll likely be the issue! I used to work a LOT with coloured pencils, even when you have a lot of knowledge on them they're still incredibly hard to layer and blend properly. They also tend to be too solid to be able to furnish properly

Something you could attempt (do it on a test swatch, not a done piece) is rubbing baby oil onto it with a cotton swab once you've got a thick layer of Crayola down. With other coloured pencils, it'll often allow the pigment to "slip" making it fully pigmented

But I've personally never tried it for Crayola.
