I would say that you should add something on her Kimono(?) Or Yukata(?)

One advice I could give is that you can just use textures you can find online to save time.

Download the image, add image layer, clip image to kimono, use Overlay effect on image, there you have it

Or aside from textures, you can use Patterns, flowers, Koi Fish or anything you fancy

As for shading. You should really decide on where to place the light first. When you do, you'll have an easier time determining when and where you'll put the shadows

What I meant by light is the environments lighting(background)

Although I have to say that Schleswig practically did not participate in WW2 except for the bombing of the Polish coast and her fame is based only on symbolism.

I’m trying a method where I put highlights first

The light is coming from the top left corner

So it wouldn’t make sense as to why there would be light there..

And tbe paint brushes i use are just your cheap dollar store brushes

I recommend skimping out on better quality brushes

But the dollar store one should be expendable, that way you dont need to worry about them drying up and ruining bristles

I can't give you a lot of advice when it comes to painting as im still pretty new to it
