pearl mason
#

Nope

vagrant holly
#

ain't that a little sus?

#

come on man?

pearl mason
#

I had kaspersky from my work

vagrant holly
#

alright?

hexed citrus
#

and?

pearl mason
#

And it was not saying anything till now

vagrant holly
#

yes?

pearl mason
#

Yes?

#

What about 80+ celcius

#

When i don't scan anymore

#

When i normally get 40-50

#

Explain to me then.

#

Why is thqt a thing

#

It was even 80+ before scan

vagrant holly
#

did you run a malware scan

hexed citrus
#

so

vagrant holly
#

alright

hexed citrus
#

if you don't believe me

pearl mason
#

I am not saying i don't

hexed citrus
#

read this bloody post

pearl mason
#

I just 2ant to ask

#

Want

#

The problem is

#

I didn't open shit

hexed citrus
#

there's no problem

#

ur just being paranoid

#

the boogeyman doesn't sit on ur harddrive

pearl mason
#

Well and you are not polite at all

#

Also

#

The problem is

#

For laat 3 days my processor work at 80 celcius

hexed citrus
#

well when we keep telling you it's fine and you keep making a big deal out of it

#

obv my patience runs thing quick

pearl mason
#

And today that thing appeared without opening anything

#

Cuz you don't listen

#

My problem now is

#

Why is my processor constantly at 80+

#

When i didn't open anything

#

That is my question

#

I don't have apps in the background

hexed citrus
#

BECAUSE IT'S A FUKING MALWARE SIGNATURE NOT A ACTUAL PAYLOAD

pearl mason
#

Well i asked right?

hexed citrus
#

IT'S A HARMLESS SIGNATURE

#

GET IT?

pearl mason
#

Then how could i get it without opening anything on discord

#

And i am sorry but if you would work my job. You would be stressed too

hexed citrus
#

good god give me strength

pearl mason
#

Good god you really need some tea

hexed citrus
#

mate I worked with national telecom data

#

this shit is like daycare work for me

pearl mason
#

Well sorry that i only recently started to learn

#

I was concerned cuz i have my army documents here.

#

And i don't want to get any problems

hexed citrus
#

ur just being paranoid

vagrant holly
#

m8 if yamato tells you something software or hardware wise, you can trust his word

pearl mason
#

Even if they don't have things really

hexed citrus
#

if ur so concerned about those then store them in the cloud

vagrant holly
#

he knows more than 99.9% of us in this entire server

#

you're fine

pearl mason
#

Well last time someone said it was "fine"

#

My bank account was wiped to zero

#

So i want to check

#

3 times if i have to

vagrant holly
#

well alright was that someone yamato?

hexed citrus
#

the signature comes from a video file sent on discord that crashes your discord client, the smart ass that made that video file added a malware signature at the end of the video to trigger anti viruses

pearl mason
#

Well the guy worked ad main army IT specialist

#

So idk

hexed citrus
#

no offence but army IT ppl are p daft

#

talking from experience

pearl mason
#

Maybe

#

He did work with IT for over 30 years tho

#

So you know

#

I just want to be sure that this time nothing will happen

vagrant holly
#

you can bullshit your way through life in many jobs

pearl mason
#

I am not denying it

hexed citrus
#

the reason why you got that payload was because discord caches the video thumbnail and metadata so that it will start almost instantly the playback if you decide to play it

pearl mason
#

But if your account would suddenly lose over 5k when it was "fine"

#

You would be a bit scared too

hexed citrus
#

and inside that data lies that payload, that's why your AV got triggered

#

any sensitive info you should not keep a single copy of on your pc, let alone critical stuff like security clearances, banking info, etc

#

you store that securely with a password in the cloud

pearl mason
#

Ofc i have it on multiple things

hexed citrus
#

onedrive is a good option

pearl mason
#

I do know those basics

hexed citrus
#

or google drive if you like that

vagrant holly
#

it's not about having it on multiple things

pearl mason
#

I have it safely on one drive

vagrant holly
#

it's about not having it on your pc specifically

pearl mason
#

That is the problem tho

hexed citrus
#

that's not safe

#

if that drive gets corrupted or damage

#

gone is ur data

pearl mason
#

Well i have it on other things too

#

But you know

#

I use one drive mostly

#

Yes

vagrant holly
#

say a malware gets in your pc

#

your shit's gone

#

tho nowadays you're safe against most even with just windows defender

hexed citrus
#

WD got much better since win7 and 8 days

vagrant holly
#

also recently learned that you don't even need a "true" anti virus for most things and defender alone is enough anyway

pearl mason
#

True

#

I used mostly windows defender

hexed citrus
#

obv not as airtight as bitdefender, kaspersky or malwarebytes but it's really close

vagrant holly
#

i was surprised to learn about it

pearl mason
#

Well it is still impressive for free one

#

But my problem also is

#

Lately my pc just don't go as smothly in games for example

hexed citrus
#

also for i9s it's natural to run really hot if you don't have a BIG cooler or water cooling

pearl mason
#

Even with 1080 ti adn i9

#

I feel massive drop in fps

#

I have water cooling

#

And over 17 fans in general

hexed citrus
#

1080 ti won't do shit nowadays in modern games at anything but 1080p

pearl mason
#

Not modern

#

I mean it just sudenly drops frames

#

Example in games like tf2.

#

Or bf1

hexed citrus
#

tf2 is normal

pearl mason
#

Like 130 fps. And then poof. 20 for a sec

hexed citrus
#

source tends to have that issue regardless of GPU

pearl mason
#

And back to normal

#

The worst thing happens in leage tho

#

It can just freeze the game nowaday

#

Idk why

#

And it happens in last 3 days

hexed citrus
#

since you said you're playing in 4K you're also pushing the limits of your CPU

pearl mason
#

When my cpu started to heat up

#

Well only witcher 3

#

Most games i play in 1080p

hexed citrus
#

when was the last time you changed the thermal paste and drained the loop?

pearl mason
#

Actually all but witcher 3

#

I think.. 3 months ago?

#

2?

#

Something like that

hexed citrus
#

did you clean the water block fins when you did?

vagrant holly
#

wait, yamato i always thougt framerate was the main bottlenecking factor for CPUs and resolution was the bottlenecking factor for GPUs

hexed citrus
#

not really

pearl mason
#

Yes

vagrant holly
#

since more resolution=GPU takes more time to render the pixels so CPU has more time between frames to transfer it to screen

pearl mason
#

Everything is good

hexed citrus
#

the issue is that at lower resolutions the CPU cannot feed the GPU fast enough to render so many frames

#

so it be chilling

vagrant holly
#

ye that's what i thougt

hexed citrus
#

at higher resolutions the CPU can keep up but then the GPU has a hard time handling such big frames

vagrant holly
#

ye

pearl mason
#

So

#

My data is safe

#

?

hexed citrus
#

yes

pearl mason
#

Yey

#

But still

vagrant holly
#

you're fine

pearl mason
#

How to fix that celcius problem

vagrant holly
#

clean the fan

pearl mason
#

It is clean

#

I do it every 2 weeka

vagrant holly
#

but intel cpus in general are hot anyway

hexed citrus
#

now, does the loop have any water temperature sensors?

vagrant holly
#

especially on laptop

#

oh wait you have a loop

pearl mason
#

? What loop?

#

Can you explain

hexed citrus
#

the water loop

vagrant holly
#

water cooled

pearl mason
#

Sr i don't know names yet

#

Ah ye

#

I have water cooled processor

#

And 17 fans

hexed citrus
#

what's the temp of the water compared to the CPU

pearl mason
#

Hmm

#

Wait

#

Lemme check

#

40

hexed citrus
#

decent ish temps

pearl mason
#

42 to be exact

#

Oh here we go again

#

74 celcius

#

When i have nothing in the background

hexed citrus
#

do you have a benchmark tool for CPU?

#

cinnebench, prime98, aida

pearl mason
#

I don't.. i think

hexed citrus
#

you can go get aida since it's free but it has trial version taped all over it

pearl mason
#

And what will it givr me

#

As info

hexed citrus
#

push the CPU to its limits and see if it goes beyond 100 degrees in the first seconds

pearl mason
#

Wait

hexed citrus
#

if it does then you did a shit job at putting the thermal paste

pearl mason
#

You want to burn my pc

vagrant holly
#

it's not gonna burn dw

hexed citrus
#

the CPU has a thing called thermal junction limit

#

or Tjmax for short

pearl mason
#

Hm?

hexed citrus
#

for intel CPUs that's 130 degrees

#

it will never allow the chip to go there

vagrant holly
#

it's an artificial temp limit beyond which a cpu cannot go

pearl mason
#

Wiat wait waut

#

But i don't get one thing

hexed citrus
#

if it gets anything beyond 100 degrees it instantly cuts power

vagrant holly
#

it triggers automatically

#

to save itself from burning

pearl mason
#

Why did i got a "av" notification on discord. Whrn i didn't even open anything there

#

I am sorry

#

But i am curious

hexed citrus
#

all semiconductors have a Tjmax

pearl mason
#

Can you explain after?

hexed citrus
#

I explained it

pearl mason
#

I mean ye

#

But like

#

Is that really it?

#

That is literally all?

hexed citrus
#

yes that's really it

pearl mason
#

Hmm weird

#

Tho the file didn't exist

#

When i tried to find it

hexed citrus
#

it did

#

the AV nuked it

pearl mason
#

Oof

hexed citrus
#

AVs are way faster at dealing with malware than any human being

pearl mason
#

Do i will check my processor in a sec

hexed citrus
#

that's why they sit and guard pcs

pearl mason
#

I am weirded out tho

#

Kaspersky scsnned over 8m files

#

I didn't knew I have do many

#

Xd

vagrant holly
#

that's normal

hexed citrus
#

programs can make a ton of tiny files

vagrant holly
#

most people have so many files they don't know about

pearl mason
#

Discord

#

My cache had pver 11k giles

#

Files

#

Before

vagrant holly
#

yes

#

discord caches every single picture and video you see

pearl mason
#

Why tho

hexed citrus
#

yes it caches each image, avatar, video, emote, server icon, etc

pearl mason
#

It just take up space

vagrant holly
#

to make it faster when you open it back up

pearl mason
#

I guess but

hexed citrus
#

it doesn't "just take up space"

vagrant holly
#

so it doesn't have to download everything all over again

hexed citrus
#

this

pearl mason
#

Shouldn't it delete a file after like 40 days

#

Or so

hexed citrus
#

it's to not make your internet cry bloody tears

pearl mason
#

League do that

hexed citrus
#

it handles that cache automatically

#

a.k.a it knows when to delete stuff and when not to

#

based on usage patterns, metadata and caching policy

pearl mason
#

Whs

hexed citrus
#

example of a part of my SSDs

#

each square is a file

#

some a big chonky bois

#

others are hundreds of tiny bois

pearl mason
#

True

#

For me all i know is how to code in java

#

There is a lot to learn smh

#

But how do you make that "image"

hexed citrus
#

windirstat

#

the program takes a bit to run on slower drives

#

and it eats up a decent amount of RAM while it runs

pearl mason
#

I have 32 gb

vagrant holly
#

you aren't going to use it all the time so it's not like you want to worry about how much ram it eats up anyway

pearl mason
#

True

hexed citrus
#

another program u can use to stress the CPU is cinnebench r20

pearl mason
#

Should i delete like.. chore cache etc

hexed citrus
#

or newer

pearl mason
#

?

#

Chrome*

hexed citrus
#

no

pearl mason
#

Oh

hexed citrus
#

caches are that

#

a cache

#

it's temporary

pearl mason
#

Well i deleted discord one

#

;_;

#

Oh no

hexed citrus
#

the program knows itself when to delet stuff from it

vagrant holly
#

it's fine you aren't breaking anything

hexed citrus
#

it will rebuild the cache by itself

pearl mason
#

Tho i am surprised

vagrant holly
#

just if you go look for past images or videos you either have to download them again or they disappeared from whatever server they were hosted on

pearl mason
#

Some files in disxord cache

#

Were as old as 2019

#

Discord*

hexed citrus
#

probably server icons

#

or your avatars

pearl mason
#

Maybe?

#

Tho it took over 3gb of my spafe

#

Space

#

On pc

vagrant holly
#

just means you see alot of shit

hexed citrus
#

I doubt 3gb makes that big of an impact on ur pc

pearl mason
#

Well ye

vagrant holly
#

the more servers you're in/the more content you visualize, the bigger the cache gets

pearl mason
#

But still surprising

#

You know

#

I am in .. 15

#

Servers

#

Azur lane spams smh

#

Also.. github sucks

#

Aaaa

vagrant holly
#

wrong

#

take that back

pearl mason
#

I use it.

vagrant holly
#

github is based af

hmm...
When it's come to screen quality and camera, which one is better?
Samsung S10 lite or ROG phone 3? i also need them for playing Genshin
I heard S10 Lite's screen have more vibrant colors and brighter
While ROG 3 is not desirable, it is similar to that of 2015 phones.
From what i'm remembered, the S10 Lite somewhat have better photographs than ROG 3.
And i'm asking this because there's variant of ROG have price that is similar to S10 Lite in my country, and the S10 Lite is the only one in the Samsung line that have snapdragon 855 chip.

vagrant holly
#

don't buy phones looking for a gaming console

#

if you want a phone, look at battery life

#

if you want to game, get a pc or console

drifting karma
#

Alright, i just wanted easy portability
So Zephyrus ZEPHYRUS DUO 15 GX550LXS-HC055R ?
I know the price is high and it isn't the same of the 2 devices you mentioned, and i'm moving a lot.
What about the budget Laptop or PC setup?

drifting karma
#

What is the best PC Gaming Setup? Like playing heavy games and similar programs like Blender
Also the criteria for Laptop is the same too, i want to know which laptop would jagged like that

gloomy tinsel
#

RYZEN 9 5950X and RTX3090 or R6900XT if you go all out budget

#

those are like 6K Build

#

6000USD

#

If you can wait just go for Ryzen 5000 laptop series to come out

#

also AMD product price is really fked up in my country, maybe other country too. like you pay for 10-15% more than the actual price

gloomy tinsel
#

but hell no to overpriced

drifting karma
#

hmm
ok

drifting karma
#

About the phone, i just want a good looking phone with good screen and camera
And please choose 2 of these
Samsung S10 lite
RoG 3
Which one?

#

Like which phone screen have better colors and stuff

drifting karma
#

i know the battery is a priority, but the camera is the important thing i need to take some documents
So what phone? The ROG 3 or S10 lite
I currently can't look up at those websites as it somehow inaccessible

ROG phone 3 is released here but it got IMEI blocked for second card slot

#

Maybe you doesn't going to mind this issue if you're not from SEA country

#

ROG phone 3 have better Refresh rate and better hardware

#

but for screen color I'm not sure

hexed citrus
#

for screens always go with samsung phones

#

their AMOLED displays are really good

drifting karma

hmm
suit yourself

#

now back to the tuesday night of tech help
the big question is
How does the low temperature affects laptops? Will it runs better or worse? I know humidity play some part in this.

vagrant holly
#

what?

#

low temp is always good

#

unless it's liquid nitrogen and on a laptop, (and I'm, pretty sure you're not going to make use of that) low temps are usually a good thing, a cool running PC (usually around 30 C° for CPU and somewhere in the 30-35 C° for the GPU), is good, laptop or desktop

#

also air humidity surely plays some kind of role into on the ambient temperature and the long, long term wear and tear of your PC but it's so negligible you really don't need to worry about it

#

also this channel isn't a sort of "tech support", we talk about tech and help eachother if we need occasional help with tech related stuff but i'm pretty sure this isn't a tech-support dedicated channel to troubleshoot your hardware/software troubles, your very question could've been answered in depth with some googling

#

again, i'm not saying you must not ask questions about tech here, just don't go thinking of it like as a dedicated tech support channel

remote remnant
#

liquid nitrogen on a cpu can do huge overclock

drifting karma
#

Hmm...

#

The #tech-support told me to question here but i understand your point
I'll make use of other channel and googling stuff.

either way, here are some options:
Logitech G203 - mid range price Wired, not exactly "low-cost" but definitely cheaper than the Naga, (most mice out there are), roughly the same dimensions of the naga aswell, only 2 side buttons + 1 button under the mouse

Logitech G305 "lightspeed" - mid-range price pretty much a G203 but wireless

Logitech B100 - True budget mouse, simple, wired, durable, no side buttons or extra features what so ever, just a simple mouse, slightly bigger than the naga

SteelSeries Rival 3 - mid-range price Cabled, roughly same price as the G203, also slightly bigger than the naga

HP X220 - entry-level to mid-range priceCabled, slightly bigger than the naga, about half the price of a typical mid-range mice

# vast sand but only 60hz is showing

Might be a monitor spec issue. Yes HDMI 1.4 itself does support 1440p 75hz/1080p 144hz, but does the Monitor HDMI 1.4 spec support 1440p 75hz/1080p 144hz? It's usually DisplayPort that allows for that spec.

#

Here's an example of what I'm talking about

zinc meadow
#

i've heard some funny rumors about monitors where the option to enable a newer hdmi mode is actually called something like "disable hdmi 1.2" in the menus

#

ah found the thing, my friend had to choose "disable hdmi 1.4" in order to enable hdmi 2.0 on his monitor

#

then for some reason I decide to look into something else, and find out that from A03 firmware and up (I have A03) this monitor has had hdmi 2.0
disabled by default
if you unplug all cables
then select hdmi input, then hold down green checkmark button for 8 seconds
that toggles "disable hdmi 1.4"

#

which turns on hdmi 2.0
and in that mode everything works as it should. 60fps, sleep doesn't move windows

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060’s unhackable mining limiter has been hacked Two German publications have now confirmed that simply by using a special driver, the Ethereum limiter appears to be nonfunctional.  NVIDIA announced that their new mid-range RTX 3060 graphics card will have a built-in anti cryptocurrency mining firmware that will automatically ...

#

that didn't last long

shell cedar
#

good idea, but nothing is unhackable lol

vagrant holly
#

wasn't it only limiting etherium mining anyway?

#

but ye stuff like this is useless

#

people will get around it eventually

#

crypto currency is the problem

#

it's good in concept but in practice it just turned into people using stupid amounts of electricity to generate money while optimizing the system to spend less money on paying for the electricity

#

i wish the processing power was put to good use rather than just, mining virtual coins

hexed citrus
#

no it's not crypto

#

it's the proof of work system

#

and ethereum 2.0 is moving to proof of stake

vagrant holly
#

i looked it up and as far as i understood, proof of work adds a "competitive" element to the whole deal, each user is racing to solve the cryptographic puzzle fastest, to claim to block first, the more computational power you have, the faster you are
proof of stake however takes this competitive element out by having the algorithm decide the owner of the block instead
it sounds like it's gonna make mining more accessible to smaller miners to me but i won't lie, i may be biting more than i can chew lmao

versed blade
hexed citrus
#

not really

#

this bubble will burst eventually

#

and from my data that's supposed to happen later this year (think winter holidays) or start of next year

versed blade
#

I mean yes

#

Also ETH is gonna pull off from proof of work

hexed citrus
#

@vagrant holly in PoS you do not mine, period

#

the system itself decides how to give out the currency and to who

#

as well as the burnout rate of it

vagrant holly
#

oh

hexed citrus
#

it basically makes mining obsolete

vagrant holly
#

so does the algorithm decide randomly?

hexed citrus
#

no

#

it decides on the amount of coin you already hold

vagrant holly
#

oh

#

ooohhhh

hexed citrus
#

the more coin you have the more you get when people make transactions

#

consider it like this, the tax you pay for making transation is split across the network to different people according to their stake size

vagrant holly
#

so it's literally like, regular capitalism

hexed citrus
#

ye

vagrant holly
#

thanks

hexed citrus
#

so ye

#

they're a lot different

vagrant holly
#

ye i get it

hexed citrus
#

in order for a cryptocurrency to use PoS it needs to be mined first

#

that's what happened with ethereum

vagrant holly
#

ye so once it goes 2.0 mining will stop altogether and new coins will only be generated via the transaction fees, which generates more chains of transactions as more people buy from the person who bought from the first guy so on and so forth

hexed citrus
#

ye

vagrant holly
#

kinda sounds like NFTs except it doesn't trickle all the way up to the original owner

hexed citrus
#

not really

#

it's basically the person with the biggest stake is the one that gets to validate the transactions

#

and reap the fees

#

obv not like you can keep the stake forever

vagrant holly
#

that's what i was wondering

versed blade
#

NFT are a big scam tho

#

Legit buying hot air

vagrant holly
#

was wondering if it was like being a land owner and you just reap the benefits your whole life

hexed citrus
#

nah

if someone else comes around with a bigger stake then they get to run the show

vagrant holly

right

#

NFT honestly is a bit of a fad right now but i like the concept of artists always getting something

vagrant holly

NFTs could be the solution

vagrant holly
#

you can set the amount you get

from 10 to 50 i think

#

depends on the platform

versed blade

I am not sure you can tho. The network you use always gets the biggest cut.

#

hexed citrus

severe falcon
#

its really well made tho, except it does all these weird things in an attempt to take less than an hour to run

#

and gif is the only format that it understands thats still used widely

severe falcon
#

ok i need some help figuring this line out

#

fastrand just takes a random number and ANDs it with 3

#

but are the two NOTs necessary?

#

like does it change anything?

#

i tested what it looks like but it seems to just cancel out

plain mica
#

what's the definition of AND_FASTRAND ?
and is that a C Macro? or a Java function?

plain mica
#

oh nvm, the func def is in the next photo (?)

yeah the code could be simplified, the 3rd line with the double negative results in (temp & 3)

severe falcon
#

it gets a random number and then &'s it with the number passed

#

this is ancient C code from 1993 so thats why its not just a call to random

#

im just trying to figure out if its doing something other than using NOT twice and cancelling out

#

im trying to remake this code in Java because im more used to it, and im stuck at this part because im not entirely sure why they NOT it twice

plain mica
#

well the FastIndex++ & MAX_INDEX part is bitwise tricks to make sure it says under MAX_INDEX
then i believe the & (n) is just to make sure the result is under (n)
i.e. AND_FASTRAND(3) will never return something greater than 3

i dont see the double negation here though

severe falcon
#

this part

plain mica
#

what's the type of Crescent? int?

#

if it's boolean then it's probably doing boolean coalescing.

i.e. in JavaScript you can do this:

const some_variable = "foobar";
console.log(!(!(some_variable)));
// prints true

console.log(!(!("")));
// prints false
severe falcon
#

its an int

#

im not sure if boolean existed as a type when this was made, cuz they def dont use them

plain mica
#

looks like it reduces it to 0/1 though:

#

so very likely that the code didn't have bool at the time
(even then looks like a macro)

hexed citrus
#

C does not have boolean data types

#

you used binary values for your logic

severe falcon
#

so it turns it into either 0 or 1?

#

ok that helps, but trying to decipher this is giving me a headache, so imma get back to it tomorrow

hexed citrus
#

I'm more comfortable with C and C++ than C#, Java or Python

#

but python has a soft spot because it's as easy as JS to quickly whip up something

subtle hawk
#

Rather, a type 1 hypervisor

#

I don't know much about ESXi but I am more familiar with Xen and Hyper-V

#

I wonder if Android has a "dom0" or a control stack in it

#

iOS though is a different beast, since according to Steve Jobs it's Darwin with different libraries

hexed citrus
#

iOS we'll never know

#

since closed source

#

not really a type 1 but close-ish

subtle hawk
#

Yeah, somewhere between type 1 and type 2

hexed citrus
#

the sandboxes work more like docker containers

subtle hawk
#

because a type 1 hypervisor is essentially a microkernel

hexed citrus
#

it's also the reason why android apps are a pain to write

#

since all access has to be done and handled in a very specific way and with very specific APIs

subtle hawk
#

the thing that makes it annoying for me is the different API versions

hexed citrus
#

all software is like that

subtle hawk
#

btw is Rust worth learning

hexed citrus
#

uhhh

#

depends?

#

generally it won't be a bad thing to know

#

but it still has very niche uses

subtle hawk
#

I've been practicing it for some time

hexed citrus
#

good god

#

discord bots aren't a good "hello world" for languages

#

for rust try something low level where it excels and specializes in

#

not bloody discord bots

subtle hawk

#

The Java bot was a reverse engineered NadekoBot

#

Python bot was my own idea

hexed citrus
#

nadeko has the code open source

subtle hawk
#

yeah'

hexed citrus
#

so not really reverse engineered

subtle hawk
#

ngl I haven't done low level stuff in years

#

except in college, when I was learning C++

#

and the horror that is Borland Assembly

hexed citrus
#

that is animal crossing level on a animal crossing to dark souls scale

subtle hawk
#

yeah, not much low level tbh

#

i can't say im a great programmer but probably not a horrible one either

#

lmao

#

I do mostly web stuff

hexed citrus
#

not to sound too elitist but web developers in my eyes are the equivalent of a wannabe pilot that just got his license vs a experienced commercial pilot

#

idk why people even go to colleges or unis with engineering majors if they want to do just webdev

subtle hawk
#

I've done IoT stuff in college though

#

I'm still learning, especially when it comes to Linux

hexed citrus
#

engineering is just so much more and has so much potential that people waste on "eh, I'll just make websites I don't need this shit"

subtle hawk
#

ngl I haven't learned much in college, learned more online

#

I'm studying more about operating systems

hexed citrus

my phone battery just changed cuz of swollen and already 3 years of being used extensively for video calls. But now the new battery really drained too fast even on Idle like from 100 to 80ish in less than an hour, but when its below 70ish percent it got very long time to drain even for 6 hrs idle and still having 50+ available.

is this normal?

zinc meadow
#

so you're saying that in total, the battery time is okay? but it drains from 100 -> 80 faster than you expect?

#

in that case, it might be that the phone has learned how the old battery behaves and is confused, it should adapt itself in a while to the new battery

hexed citrus
#

@wary depot no, all digitizer pens are made to react to specific digitizers

#

in this case the ipad is only paired with the apple pen

#

this is how batteries discharge

#

generally

#

as you can see the first 20% drop off fast

then it's a more linear discharge till 80+%

when the cell voltage nosedives

phone batteries operate only on 80% of the total capacity of the battery

vagrant holly
#

you need an upgrade m8

#

windows 10 is already intensive on RAM as it is 4 GB isn't gonna cut it

#

also emulation in general is a very resource intensive process

#

don't be deceived by the fact that it's a PC running phone apps

#

you're asking your PC to run in a virtual machine, AND it has to act like it's another device, running on an operating system that isn't anything like its own

#

it's the same reason why you need a good PC to run ps2 emulators or hell, even ps1 emulators

hexed citrus
#

not to mention that phones nowadays are as powerful as some desktops

zinc meadow
#

modern phones have 8 cores that can run at 2-3GHz each, and 6+GB ram

#

and they use a different architecture (arm) than your pc (x86) so it is very slow to emulate yeah

#

if you had a desktop with an arm cpu it would be much easier

hexed citrus
#

not really

#

phones have some specific modifications that would run worse in a virtual enviroment regardless of architecture

zinc meadow
#

emulating the cpu is the biggest reason it's slow, try starting an x86 android image and you'll see

hexed citrus
#

android can be built for x86 targets...

zinc meadow
#

yeah, that's where the x86 android image i mentioned would come from

#

unfortunately azur lane is only for arm

hexed citrus

you can literally run android on x86 native

zinc meadow

yeah

hexed citrus

without emulation

zinc meadow
#

we are 100% in agreement on this

hexed citrus
#

and all apps can run on it

zinc meadow
#

you can also run it in an emulator

#

and it will be faster than running an arm image in an emulator

hexed citrus
#

what emulators like BS or nox provide is the ability to simulate a touch display

#

and they also run a arm image that fakes itself as a tablet (check IMEI or serial codes) to bypass some security measures in certain apps that won't run on a desktop or custom machine

else they would've ran x86 images

would you have been able to get a better AMD based platform for the same money? very likely, yes, but this case specifically is more you asking for too much from what you got

it's not like it's a cheap laptop

#

and I expected quite a lot when I got my other $600 laptop with 8GB RAM and Intel core i5-8265u

#

since that one does not have storage, I put the blame on there, and ofc, intel

#

having 256GB of storage is quite bad nowadays

ye that's nowhere near worth your money

she did not listen to me and hesitated to buy there instead, even though I told her before it's definitely a bad idea buying expensive appliances/computers outside your home country

#

because parts are harder to obtain

#

look, my Asus X512FJ is barely usable because it barely has storage, I tried looking for parts but its hard because it was also bought in SG

#

am planning to buy my own, AMD this time

#

alongside a computer upgrade

as cyberius said

#

you're asking unreasonable things from it

random magnet
#

Well, the asking price is quite expensive that's why I expected more out of it

#

I never had a PC with this much RAM so let me be here to say this is my first PC with more than 8GB RAM

#

even back then, I expected a laptop with 8GB RAM to run smoothly, cause our PC only has 4GB, it didn't turn out well as expected

#

expensive doesn't mean it's automatically good

random magnet
#

yea unfortunately, I feel quite ripped-off really. I gave Intel a chance, maybe good, but now I'm going for AMD instead

#

don't give companies chances

#

do research and go with whatever is agreed to be good

#

or if you're knowledgeable enough get what you need yourself not what people fawn over

random magnet
#

got it, I'll take note of this when I buy myself a new PC

#

and a laptop

#

thanks guys

#

well then you're not knowledgeable enough, if you would've asked beforehand someone about it they would tell you that the 10510U is a low power CPU meant for battery life not performance and that the MX350 is a really bad card that is again something used for power saving

#

the entire point of that laptop is that it lasts long on battery

#

as long as you don't push it to the limits
