yeahh
damn
i can buy a bit stronger card than
2060 super
but 2060 super is so cheap
That sweet sweet ray tracing
I would hold a few days for a 2070 super if I were to buy one now
Or try to snag one online
Or just say fuck it and buy a 2080ti
But if I'm not in a rush or planning to upgrade any time soon, I'll be waiting for the 30xx series next year.
My bets are on a much larger performance increase for ray-tracing and fps/dollar
More so of the former over the latter
they're just yes like this
I bought 2060 few weeks before super is announced
i see a amd gpu
he didn't want to wait
scam
newegg, amazon, walmart, ebay are all market places so they can have third party sellers
They won't end up with your CC info but they'll have your name and billing address whatever they use that for.
Then Newegg or whoever closes the account and refunds you.
Oh wait that's box only
lmao wtf
that's just trying to get people who don't check what they're buying, report that shit and newegg would delete the listing
If it's spinning freely, push the back of the screw with something as you unscrew it.
@tidal grove ANGERY
TURBO ANGERY
U HAVE THE TOP PCIe SLOT
THAT'S 16X
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe
I know
I cant get the top slot out
The screw just wont come out
I tried for half an hour

just get a dual tower dual fan type of deal
you gotta watch out for ram clearance for high profile ram though
My old CPU cooler was designed to fit.
https://i.imgur.com/miiKGfr.jpg
i would pay the extra $10 to get the corsair water cooling system
oh wait
extra 30
get the h150i pro i guess
triple 120
if you really want to go balls to the walls you can hit up EK and build an open loop
but you on your own with that route cause I don't touch that stuff
Do i need to plug in sata to motherboard
If i got those thin chip thingies
That goes right on the motherboard?
My case has sata coming out, which is connected to the nzxt power hub
m.2?
@tidal grove M.2? Then no it either directly uses a PCIe or SATA connection if plugged in, no cable required.
That said it also means that SATA port 0 will be occupied (in the case of M.2 SATA) if you intend to plug like a hard drive so keep that in mind
What kind of SSD do you have anyway?
@tame topaz
well now my pc boots up and all
but nothing shows up on screen

idk what's wrong with it
then yeah, you only need the card in the m.2 slot
@tidal grove For the 6 pin just leave the 2 extra pins hanging there
for the 8 pin, plug it all in
#technology is just digital IT tech support, change my mind
Yep
Idk whats wrong with it tho
?
you plugged everything in right?
waw
mobo, and im using display port
And I suppose he got the front panel connectors in too because he can turn it on
And ay no plug it into your card
not the mobo
uhh okay
ye
no difference

Change the source on the monitor
Yeah i think it's my monitor lmao
It was working fine but now it wont work on my old pc
oof
I feel like MP3 players are gonna be back in vogue real soon once every brand takes out the headphone jack
tbh, id use an mp3 player just for music
So, the screen turned on
And it says it needs a bootable device and whatnot
Which means i just need to install windows 10 right?

Finally
๐
@tidal grove specifics?
Oh i figured it out
It's when i put in my 2nd ram stick

Did i put it on the wrong slot
lemme see?
I just took it out, but the 2nd one was at fourth slot
That's the correct config
USB is for older systems
If you don't have CSM enabled it'll spit out an error
Choose UEFI
hmm
The display doesnt come up at all
With the 2nd ram in
Im installing windows now with 2nd ram out
yeah sounds like abd ram
After installing Windows try that second stick into the 1st stick's slot
sometimes it can still run with bad ram, like mine
@tidal grove why isn't there CPU fan speed?
cuz it looks like its not plugged in
60 C on the bios is not good for the cpu
but why is the SB also 60 C?
@tidal grove USB: will perform a legacy MBR boot while UEFI: is exactly what it's said
what's SB again?
UEFI is more flexible and modern
yeah
did you accidentally plug CPU fan pin into a water pump header?
so yeah @tidal grove turn that thing off and figure out why your CPU cooler isnt running
from earlier pics it was running iirc
hmm
or maybe theres a negative pressure in the case?
Yeah we haven't taken a close look at his fan config yet either
or whether he has any at all
maybe its that big chungus of a graphics card in the way
Cpu fan is indeed running
I closed the case and started it up
no theres no way the processor hits 60 C on IDLE
It first showed that i have to pick a bootable device
chipset yes, CPU no
if it does you need watercooling
ok so the chipset is fine
did you use thermal paste?
wtf is wrong with that CPU
3600x
ah yep
That was from bios
again might as well just be bad RAM
The CPU is often clocked up while in BIOS
yeah but revy, usually the bios isnt 36 degrees C of inaccuracy
Well fuck it still has problems with display
You won't get accurate idle temps
because it's not idling
It's just going full bore. Test it in the OS
take out the suspected bad RAM and check temps in OS
(if you're done installing Windows)
If temps are still bad in the OS, then see if there is a BIOS update. The early BIOS versions for Ryzen 3000 series have idling bugs
I think it has to do with display port vs hdmi too? Idk
It works well with hdmi
But with display port, it always has an issur
Issue
Other monitor has old vga
VGA to DP adapters exist
Not on me currently obv
Mm
hm
do you have a DVI to VGA?
but doesnt ram usually come in a 2 pack?
then he might be without ram for a bit
Unless they let him RMA just one of them, yeah
Do you have a previous PC with DDR4 memory?
Previous one was ddr3
oof
Just buy new RAM first and then RMA this set once the new RAM arrives
well as kthem if you can just RMA one
or that
this is why 4 sticks is better than 2
What're the full specs on this, 3600X 16 GB 5700XT?
he has a fan above the CPU
I got about 3 fans besides cpu and gpu
i think its pulling out
can you make a small diagram and what direction the air goes?
Personally I would not have gone with the 3600X, due to these chips being very close to the limits of the silicon already
I would've done 3600
and let the cooling and XFR do their thing
or go with water cooling for CPU
i saw a CPU go from 70 C to 18 C by switching to water cooling for the same task
woah 18?!
yeah literally colder than the AC in the house
I call shenanigans, that probably means the 70 C was also on a lousy cooler/other factors
The best air coolers are actually just as good as, and quieter, than AIO water cooling loops
yeah tbh the cooler was probably loose, though it was a relatively good cooler
it was the factory cooler for the FX-6300, which i have never seen mine get over 65
I honestly have no idea anymore
But now it's telling me to reinstall windows
Which is even more confusing
do you still have your install usb in?
I have an R5 1600, the 6300's successor
Yeah should i try restarting with it out?
The 1600 has been a great chip, mine's kind of a dud overclocker though
Mine is a 2200G
Yah, you said. Did you get your board issue sorted out?
Only hampered by the mobo's lack of MOSFET heatsink.
or whatever it was that was killing your system
It's telling me to reboot and select proper boot device
wait i thought the R5 2600 was the FX-6300 reincarnated?
So I sent it to my computer hardware store and a few days later I got it back with them reporting no issues?!
R5 1600 is the FX-6300 reincarnated, R5 2600 is a notch above 1600
They apparently updated BIOS then reinstalled Windows 1 more time
and R5 3600 is a big jump above 2600
FX-6300: this is my normal form
R5 1600: this a super saiyan
R5 2600: this is what is known as a super saiyan who has ascended past a super saiyan, you can call it super saiyan 2
R5 3600: AND THIS
IS
TO GO
EVEN
FURTHER BEYOND
๐ค
IDK what is happening Meta
Im guessing it didnt install windows correctly
I guess not

Time to reinstall
and there was another setting that disabled my HDD, even though it was listed to boot
@gloomy tinsel but yep everything seems fine so far. Somehow.
might do like Prime95 overnight or something.
Gonna try fan tuning
X570 Steel Legend.
The Steel Legend line sure looks quite nice.
@tidal grove 1200 is fine
Gotcha, so it's one step above the Phantom
yeah maybe you're just unlucky
I had good results from my Ryzen box
Granted, I also built my system after Ryzen 1000 had been out for a while
Im not saying ryzen is bad but
Im just rusty i guess
Time to give back my cs degree
It's been established that the Ryzen 3000 launch BIOS is kinda jank, see if there's an update available for your board
yeah try to update it
Would i be able to see that from bios
What version are you on?
Nope, you'd just compare the version in BIOS with whatever is on the website
Oh yeah, there have actually been a bunch of updates since the board launched
Update it.
How o:
Gross, you have 1.10, that one doesn't even have AGESA 1.0.0.3
You probably have the idle bugs too
Dont u need ur windows usb to be clean?
no need
You actually don't
I put other stuff in there all the time.
They lied to me
But yeah, RAM frequency?
Because the description of the latest update: Improve compatibility with DDR4-3000 or above memory.
Wow lmao
That might be what's wrong here
Update BIOS, since you have the janky launch BIOS with AGESA 1.0.0.1x
Reinstall windows then bios ? Or bios and then windows
BIOS, then Windows
But yep download it from website, throw it into Windows USB and extract
Kk
ASRock gang
Sometimes ASSRock but most of the time not, thankfully
I got ASRock partly because there were very few ITX boards for AM4 at the time
The other options were Biostar and Gigabyte
And lol Biostar
oof
there's currently a deal on this ssd
Seems good
That's pretty good
Your thirst for power never ends eh Aria
500 gigs is more than enough by boot drive standards
actually, the 1TB one isnt bad, $169
hm
ah, but i use my ssd for my whole system
huh alright
I have 490 GB worth of SSDs in my system
ye
Alright now plug the thing into the mobo and restart to BIOS
Go to the "Tools" tab and you should see Instant Flash

ASRock boards like to take their sweet time with updating BIOS
so be patient
It might come on a couple times and then reboot
and that is normal
One front
One rear
And one top
I think i should buy two big ass fans for front
Okay it's telling me to reinstall windows now
Oh shoot that'd be negative pressure
Or should i have restarted and go back to bios
Remove the one on top and place it in front
2 front, 1 rear is a common (and recommended) setup
Or one big front, one small rear
I'll just put another fan in front
I think i can take off a spare one
Off my old pc
Meanwhile I have 3 RGB fans (2 rear, 1 front) that is powered via Molex and a freaking EK Vardar that I got for dirt cheap
My setup is definitely worse than all of yours for cooling though
Surely that'd be positive pressure right?
I have a single 120mm fan in front, and the exhaust fan in the rear is the PSU fan
Because small ITX cube with top mounted PSU
oof
Oh wait no, I forgot that I ziptied a second 120mm fan in-line with the first one
because I'm ghetto
oof
It's so bad lmao
Compressed air is so expensive
That's why I bought an electric dust blower
So I end up never cleaning it for a year now
It's more expensive upfront, but cheaper long term
And all of the case's intake vents are essentially all clogged up
๐ฆ
I do give my dust filters a clean here and there tho
What did you do
of the what partition style?
Gpt
Huh
GPT should be fine
did you accidenatally do MBR boot on installer disk
inb4 BIOS is in legacy boot
you can't install MBR windows on GPT disk
When you reflashed BIOS, it probably reset everything
Seems plausible
I did this before
oof
should have been UEFI
thought I would've had to guide you through DiskPart hell
I use Linux, can't relate
We have nice GUI partitioning tools
it's always one extra step or more
for everything
Even fucking cd
why the fuck do you need to have correct capitlization anyway
Really? I can't get used to Windows
So what do i do in bios
Meanwhile I can never get used to using the terminal
nothing
Almost like the GUI is just there for fun
F11
and then select something along the line of UEFI: Windows Boot Manager
But yeah revy I'm always surprised by how you guys just get accustomed to Linux
and its fucking overreliance on the fucking terminal
UEFI: kingston
hm
my first impression is that pretty much every Linux app is activated through the terminal
not necessary
Not in the slightest
you just use desktop environment
even stuff like fucking stress test tools
for some fucking reason
Wonder if wine has a gui tho
if it doesn't then I'm out
There are GUI stress test tools, Wine has a GUI called PlayOnLinux
wine does lol
and Wine itself has some GUI configuration
I click ok, right
I can just double click the .exe and it will automatically executed by wine

Yep, you can just do that
Clearly you have been doing Linux wrong the whole time
yeah
A ton of apps from the app manager is command line based from what I see
because I can't fucking find it anywhere!
I have no idea what Linux you used or what tutorials you used
Mint
I did have it installed for a short while
Bad tutorials probably
mint is debian based right
No tutorials
Mint is Ubuntu based
and so far as I can see everything is command line based
Because again
Can't fucking find the apps I installed anywhere
Doesn't show up in the desktop
Doesn't show up in start menu
Nothing
Well, I have no idea what you did
note: live USB
Then where the fuck are the apps?!
ALL the Wine config
Because again I see pretty much nothing
Not the Mint GUI tool?
I still feel like using Linux is a freaking hassle
for installing stuff
Nope the built in package manager if it isn't the same thing
It's only a hassle if you don't take the time to get used to it and how it's different
Has a GUI
Also IDK what you were installing
tbh I had no clue either
A lot of the stuff in the Mint repositories is command-line stuff, so it's possible you chose to install entirely command-line stuff
instead of the nice GUI applications
hm
but yeah I still wouldn't wanna use it
Everything still feel like it takes an extra step
Like for example
Wine
Simple
I like the package manager, I think it's easier (and safer) than downloading stuff from various websites
I prefer that tbh, having curated stuff in one place on PC feels wrong somehow
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
again Wine is already an extra step
Yay i see the desktop screeen
And I'm not exactly used to using LibreOffice either...
Am i done here tho
Wine is an extra step for running Windows programs, but that makes sense
Probably?
Running Linux programs on Windows would require an extra step too
I prefer LibreOffice, I don't like what they've done with Office since 2007
But the nice thing is that LibreOffice has an Office-like UI mode now
How do i see actual fan temps
Download HWMonitor
Since u guys said bios may be wrong
ehhh no
I mean it's not precisely like MS Office but an attempt was made
My parents' workplace used to force everyone to install Libre at one point because licensing issues or something
And dear god
Can't get used to it at all
Again, that's mostly just a case of getting comfortable with a UI
use a screencapture dude
I haven't used Windows regularly in a while, there are definitely things about it that I find weird and inconsistent
Also, scroll down
inconsistent sure but I'm too used to it to switch
Latest build was a nice aesthetic upgrade
no literally just windows+printscreen
?
He doesn't have discord to upload it to
oh right

I mean I told myself that too for a while, Minami
Do i need to update any drivers
Is Linux actually good for consumer use?
I think of it more of a edge case
But then again not sure if my family can adapt either
Hah, there's one case where Linux is one step less. Drivers.
You don't have to install them, they're already there
Nope still had to install Nvidia drivers.
Not anymore
Still do the last time I checked
Ubuntu 19.04 ships the drivers out of the box now I believe
Mint is based on 18.04, so it would still have to install them
that ain't gonna work
considering how Nvidia drivers come out constantly
like how tf do driver updates work on linux anyway?
They just don't?
They update with the rest of the system packages
maybe if I had a personal computer I might just consider
but considering how it's essentially the family computer
nah
yeah
@subtle hawk to answer your thoughts on whether it's an edge case, I don't think so actually. Not for a "typical" use case at least
How do i install this 5700xt
Once you start factoring in specific requirements like Adobe Premiere or whatever, then it starts becoming a ???
go to amd's website I guess
For a gamer or media consumer, is there a need for linux?
also how do you get that interface in libreoffice
View --> User Interface
although I like the classic menu bars though
I feel like having more control or customization doesn't affect that target market
yeah
Gaming is still the Achilles heel of Linux, but it's getting better. Like, so much better
For media consumption there isn't really a difference, any OS will do for that
It would make a lot of sense in businesses that require higher degree of control
like servers are obvious ones
nope
what's yours version
You need LibreOffice 6.2 or newer
For your average consumer though content with windows
oh
yeah because I use still package instead of fresh
If you're content with Windows then whatever, no real need to switch
I switched because I got pressured
I'm just saying, Linux covers surprisingly more than just edge cases for consumers
and also my windows install on pc is not activated
What distro is it anyway pig, Ubuntu 18.04?
manjaro
Oh, Manjaro lol
That said I did get kinda interested in Pop!OS after seeing that one LTT video
I used that for a bit but I think the Arch base just isn't for me
The AUR is wonderful though
because I used Arch most
AUR is wonderful and... also kinda sketchy sometimes lol
all you linux lots and your technobabble
AUR is the software equivalent of a big magic box, full of treasure and occasional face-eating monsters
Oh no, am I an elitist? I hope not
lmao
Learning coding and still am not interested in Linux in the slightest
rip
I like Fedora a lot, but I think it's difficult to recommend even for most Linux users
It's a good one for development since everything is very bleeding edge
I don't see a point still
bruh linux is the best when coding

my rpi is my mobile coding station
how tho
make man
because linux by default comes will all the compilers you need
and they all work from the command line
Linux is nice for programming for a few reasons, it supports all the languages for one thing
plus you learn alot about programming if you do command line stuff
Linux expertise is good to have since most programming teams use it already
hmm nah
you say nah, but you dont understand the power of notepad and the console
you dont have to wait 4 years for your IDE to start for one
lol
I see it as the fast way to get things done
you don't always has to use command line
ya sure about that
bruh linux has the GUI versions
I actually use Fedora not because I prefer it for programming (but I think it's up there for programming). I just find it the most stable out of all the operating systems I've used
GUI my ass, can't find any of the sort
Don't blame the OS on your own shortcomings ๐ฆ
all RPIs come with gui by default, debian has it, ubuntu has it, [insert flavor here] has it
directx translation is getting better though
My experience with Fedora stability is funny because Fedora is like... the beta tester for Linux. It's not really supposed to be super stable, or at least it's not especially known for that
You don't hear people recommending Fedora for stable installations. I wouldn't, either
Also yeah DirectX translation is steadily getting better
I was really impressed by how well Sekiro runs
if anything, get an RPI and use it for a bit
$35 for the best computer ever made
also RPI too expensive
Not really, it's just a compatibility later
and I don't find an use for it
bruh how
RPI assembly is also really easy to understand and use
and it doesnt hold your hand
A friend of mine runs Ubuntu 19.04, and Sekiro runs remarkably well considering the big "This is not officially supported by Valve/Steam"
oh no an extra $21 for components used in $800 phones
i thought you wanted to learn assembly
its mobile
even more nope
i mean you have to know what youre doing to actually crash the RPI with assembly
its just its registers are literally named R0-R15
mobile
requires carrying dongles and peripherals around
I won't spend that kind of money just to learn assembly
bruh how much does $56 buy over there?
idk, a brick phone? An 8 gig stick of RAM?
not for me it ain't
dont you have like a $700 comp?
Mom's money not mine
then get a job
since it's RISC which isn't made for manual writing
what do you mean pig?
job
16 year old soon to be snowed under in schoolwork and part time at that age isn't common here
you have simple instruction set that's suited for compilers
all instruction sets are simple
Not x86 :3
but yep, no job for me

x86 is amazingly complicated
savings are all i got
yeah x86 was made for manual assembly writing back in 16-bit days
every single thing a computer does can be translated to
- loading from memory
- saving to memory
- adding 1
- subtracting 1
but then it got extensions after extensions
again, what kind of uses can I get for a pi besides just learning coding anyway?
Baseline x86 isn't too complicated; modern x86 with the khgjillion-and-one extensions is complicated
I don't see a point
IoT, robotics, fun random projects, simple desktop usage
Especially since I have to buy other stuff like a power adapter, a dongle and peripherals
No thanks I already have a desktop
Too uncreative to make anything cool out of it
is your smartphone android?
Make an alarm, an automated plant watering machine, a robot, a weather balloon...
rpi is just a very portable computer
cuz the power adapter is literally a micro usb
with mcu interfaces
you can power it from the usb port of your desktop
Alarm? Already got one.
No garden. My house is a flat.
I'll get bored of robots soon enough
No use for weather balloons
it will complain of under voltage but i have literally never had a problem with that
The Pi 4 uses USB-C now
yeah but you can't fully run it though because it will just make undervoltage warnings
THERES A PI 4?
yes
yes
Yep
with 2 micro hdmis
gonna go check it out
It came out pretty recently
They switched the cores from A53 cores to A72 cores, which basically doubled to tripled the IPC
and finally better gpu that doesn't require weird firmware
this is the greatest meme in history
excuse me now i need to replace my 3 with a 4 and then become ultimate
is the 4 64 bit?
Yep
I know the GPIO pins can be used for cool stuff
well the 3 actually only runs in 32 bit
but then I'll have to buy other stuff too
The Pi has been 64-bit since the Pi 2 v1.2
on top of the computer
nope I installed 64-bit arch arm on that
and peripherals and shit
oh the OS from the website was 32 bit only
it's just raspbian never has AArch64 version for compatibility reasons
like the raspian
again I don't see why I should get it because there ain't KB&M included in it
like a laptop
I mean it doesn't matter too much
cuz it has ARM v7, and thats only 32 bit assembly
that's the problem
I mean if you don't see the use case in it, then it's probably not the product for you
literally more USBs than any smartphone or tablet, in fact, its more than most laptops
yesh
Mobile my ass especially when you still have to plug in peripherals
stop complaining
and find a monitor
do i gotta show you my makeshift laptop with my rpi?
There's a company that sells laptop cases for the Pi
just use your pc
but, if you want a laptop, get a laptop. If you want a Pi in a laptop then you're not using it just as a laptop
btw yes I do have a laptop
but would be interested in an experience similar to those GPD UMPCs
So, got everything working, but it seems like the display port doesnt work at all with 5700xt
then try using linux on that before switching in your pc?
nah it's my school laptop
Sounds like you got a dud @tidal grove, can you RMA?
RMA?
Again, can't get used to Libre
Oh
warranty
What's your old GPU out of curiosity
i mean you could use python on the RPI for stuff excel cant even do
Gtx 960
decent thing
Oh yeah, I learned Python to do some hammy stuff with Excel documents the other week
That was fun
like my hw assignment of doing statistics on a 148,000 line excel spreadsheet
And then there's the old Japanese guy that makes art using Excel...
use VBA
the pi did everything in like 10 seconds
that's where the old bois dwell
openpyxl is great
no need for fancy python
visualboyadvance?
visual basic
lol
we don't talk about that old emulator
Thought we're talking about GB emulation lel
well we were learning data mining and analytics with python
and then threw in machine learning
I know two shits about programming
and things got out of control
Doing art in Excel is just using it as a pixel art program, that's actually comparatively straightforward
1 GB is not enough ram
and yeah python is my main scripting language now
I prefer it to bash
bruh do i need to show what ive been doing in excel?
You can find Python on all the Linuxes to begin with
pivot tables?
i mean in python?
I'd like to see it
post on gitbub
I mean to be fair, if machine learning is involved it makes sense to hook it in a Python script
as opposed to doing it all within Excel with VBA and pivot tables
the only machine learning I ever did
Jesus christ
takes about 20ish seconds for 256x256
but you said excel
yeah i put the wrong thing
time to make indie games
but still
and get rich off of the next minecraft
yeah speaking of that game
I forgot I need to do art
maybe after touhou 17 work
also since all of those are just a bunch of images put on top of each other, the individual images can be used in any game engine to actually make it in 3d
I haven't actually played MC, I have played Terraria though
theres are words I know
now in excel i have my pay calculator, which tells me about how much ill make on my next paycheck
you freelance?
and it also figures out the taxes
no but i just like knowing what im gonna get beforehand
wow
Question for the Linux users, which Android emulator or compatibility layer do you run on Linux (if any)
I played minecraft since beta 1.8, and stopped it around 1.5 and then got back to it again in 1.14
I started in alpha
i got a feeling android emulation is essentially near-native
origional minecraft account
my account is worth $$$
and now every night is me playing it with my brother
and I lost it
@tame topaz it's just x86 android in vm
ive been plaing since beta 1.3
also I used windows for that
hm
There's actually a compatibility layer called Anbox, which I've used before, but it's still in alpha and is kinda jank
every commercial android app players are windows/mac
but it is so fast
It runs comfortably on laptop
Since it's not a VM or anything, everything runs super well
However, I just use the Google Android SDK emulator on desktop, since it's less buggy and the desktop has the extra horsepower to handle it
That's where I run Azur Lane
how do you bind controls though
I don't, I run on auto all the time lmao
I like Nox because it's mostly smooth

but I can't get over their idiotic joystick
how though
At some point, I'll probably write a script that controls the X11 pointer to bind controls
like as if they literally draw it and never bother to check for symmetry
so it ends up that the left side is slightly up
and right side slightly down
like what the hell
wish I could get a pic
Tbh I like my idea but the potential for it being hilariously fragile is very real
but if I find anything like that, or I write it and get it to a nice state, I'll probably push to Github for reference
bruh the rpi4 has a metal CPU
what metal
i just hope it can fit in my case
He means how much better it is than the Pi 3
oh lol
The A72 cores are so much better than the Pi 3's A53 cores
yeah it now has that desktop silver metal covering hte CPU instead of just the chip
meaning heatsink BOI
Yeah, it's a hot boi. Can't sustain max frequency without a decent heatsink (+ fan, depending)
If you're using X11 you could probably use xwininfo to query window position of the emulator, then use xdotool to send commands
There are some metal cases for it
I did consider writing a script for that, but then I was like "nah, I wanna sleep"
then forgot
