sheesh 5900X for $335

i need to upgrade my cpu cooler but idk what to
rn i have a bequiet pure rock 2 slim cooler and it doesnt do shit for the 5800x
Are you looking for air cooling or liquid cooling?
why is samba access capability disabled by default in windows 10
absolutely annoying
you mean SMB 1.x or what
samba is just a SMB server implementation on linux
whatever it is that lets you access a network drive in explorer
apparently it's not enabled by default
it might be SMP isntead or something i really can't remember
obviously it's not
i had to go into windows features to enable it
network discovery would've been the first thing i checked
was the first thing i checked
yes that was apparently not enabled on my installation and i had to turn it on manually
yeah because that's a ancient legacy thing that wasn't used since windows 2000
i'm still weighing on whether i should enable hypervisor so the subsystem can directly RDP the other
but then there's the 1% clock thing with that and that's so weird feeling
you shouldn't enable that unless you have some terribly outdated system you need to connect to
asus is using an antiquated network access protocol
great to know then

the drive in question is a disk attached to an asus router
why would you use your shitty router as a network drive
that thing is nothing more than a gimmick
because i don't have the space or the spare funds to justify a full blown NAS currently
just chuck the drive in the pc and keep the pc on
and the router itself is the big spider one with more than adequate USB performance
said PC would keep me awake at night and 2. said drive needs to be available to all other computers/televisions
by USB performance i mean it seems to actually have better thoroughput in network copy bandwidth tests
than most others
certainly better than the previous one i used
it has to do routing, switching, wifi, firewall, NAT and traffic management and on top of that handle a network drive
i don't have the room for a nas
either way some routers are faster than others when it comes to performance with an attached disk
so like i said this one is adequate
but still
router using an antiquated protocol
great to know

so? doesn't make it less of an afterthought
what else would they use anyway
NFS?
i haven't really seen a router using something that's not samba
i did want to build a synology unit but ugh no space nor justfiable spare funds

they don't use samba
it's not viable for them in terms of resources
they use smth that implements CIFS
which is very basic and doesn't really use much compute
Does really matter just want something cheap
the 5800x is a spicy meatball, what with the whole 8 cores in 1 CCX thing.
if you want cheap but still great performance then the Scythe Fuma 2 is good
prices will vary with location
if you want water cooling then just get the biggest Arctic Liquid Freezer 2 AIO that fits in your case
Both of those are way too much
350$ CPU
can't put a 50$ cooler on it
CCX is a AMD term to signify a group of cores that have a shared L3 cache, basically one of those chiplets
stands for Core CompleX
That is correct, yes
I'm saying that the 5800x tends to run very hot even compared to the 5900x
Because the cores are packed into a single CCX instead of two
Incorrect
unless I'm mistaking it for the X3D xray shot
one of those has 2 CCXes and a main controller
The whole reason why the 5800x had worse value than the 5900x was because of it needing a perfect CCX whereas the 5900x used two flawed CCX's
That was the big thing between Zen 2 and Zen3, the increase from 4 to 8 cores per CCX, it allowed better sharing of cache and thus better performance
ah I see, there's 2 variants of the 5800x, the single CCX one and the dual CCX one
performance wise they're exactly the same but physically they're different
it's a thing apparently
well the perf difference is marginal
you'd get the same variation from batch to batch
and yes it was the 5800x
May I see it?
I wouldn't recommend taking it apart doe
Ah I see
Correct me if I'm wrong but from a quick skim read, it physically has two CCDs there but only one CCX is active
So yeah the performance would be identical
Just a defective R9 then
or if you're lucky it'll be stable just may perform worse when boosting or give an occasional BSOD
Makes me wonder if AMD could possibly make a E core P core hybrid CPU like this.
Use the defective and unstable CCDs as E cores running at a much lower frequency
Definitely terrible efficiency yeah
But price
It would give life to the defective silicon
that's if it works at all
Yeah
Just a thought
4090 releases in 25 minutes yeah?
Or did I get timezones wrong?
i mean it it going to reduce lifespan
no
its running 10-15 degrees cooler under load which is very nice
if its not reducing the lifespan i might not even bother with upgrading the cooler
If it werks then it werks
But a cooler upgrade could be useful, futureproofing and all that stuff
I think Arctic send out free brackets for when a new socket releases
8k 65 fps

Well they didn't all sell out within the first minute
A $500 difference between the TUF and TUF OC seems a little bit rude tho
its usd?
the cheapest here is
usd go up like a hell in 2 years
thats why price go up
oh the embargo on the 90 dropped?
apparently DLSS 3.0 is DLSS 2 + the optical flow engine being used to generate intermediate frames and existing DLSS 2 capable GPUs can run DLSS 3
...without the intermediate frame generation
nvidia basically did a USB foundation

it's a lot better than i expected to be quite honest
it doesn't actually use 400W most of the time and at 300W it makes a 3080 look slow
oh so I can finally talk about the specs and perf of the 4090
you can also run spec view perf on it if you want

as usual nvidia/siemens have made the thing practically useless for nx
i mean it's like 50% better than the 3090 but
150% of like 30 is only 45
compared to like 200+ from a 6800XT
even an entry level quadro does better than that
i shouldve gotten the 3090 for the vram but at the time one of the other reasons i skipped it besides the immense size of the card was that
for all their "titan class card" bluster
it certainly did not have titan class drivers

runs a little hot I see

MLID
regardless of how much of a jerk he is
has a history of having accurate sources and the rumour he has is that the "RTX Titan Ada" is benched
because of
well
that
melting either
the power supply
the cables and/or connectors
itself
more than one of the above
power supplies are rated to do like 800+w of 12V usually yes but up till now it hasn't been to just one part
nah, he has a history of posting leaks from reliable sources as his own.
he just takes and says whatever, and then see what sticks
well all the more i should think he's a jerk
but at least he's not useless like graphically challenged
That sounds like either a BS or some test rig assembly failure being blown out of proportion
I've run hundreds of amps thru Molex minifits/microfits multiple times and it's fine... and that's from high discharge LiPo with crazy low internal resistance
PSU internal resistance kicks in before contact resistance unless the contact surface is in some horrible state

We ran even more tests on the RTX 4090. These in-depth tests of the Founders Edition cooler look at the pressure distribution, flatness, power design and cables, and frequency stability for the NVIDIA RTX 4090 that just launched. We'll also talk about the 12-pin power cable and t...
Lmao so in this case a misconfigured cable
I do kinda understand if the sense lines are actually used to balance power and detect out of range contact resistance for each pins, tho I was assuming such behavior is way too complex for the usual PSU construction
anyone wanna help me buy a phone?
last one gave out really quickly so i wanna try to make better decisions
if its the battery, look for a replacement part
it the entire screen
and its a foldable so
cant..really replace that
I want another foldable though and idk what would be the best option
I just noticed pre-owned iphones are very affordable
might snag one to get around the google play region lock
Get one from an office liquidation auction
They're super cheap and somewhat well looked after by salarymem
i dont know any company that makes foldable phones outside of samsung
youre very limited in choices in the first place
might as well buy samsungs latest fold phone
I bought the zenfone 9, but it's way too overpriced for it to be worth getting value wise
better off buying previous gen zenfone if you even want an asus phone
buying second hand phones is also an option
theres many that upgrade their devices every year for some reason
motorola and several of the other big chinese names have viable options
it's not some reason, it's because their mobile carrier allows it
THATS NOT BETTER EITHER
as someone who daily drives a fold for almost a year now
can confirm
the 4 is just a minuscular upgrade to the 3
if the 3 is fine the 4 is fine too pretty much

but the fold 3 is probably discounted these days
like if you don't have the fold 3 might as well get the 4
if you have the 3 then just keep it
i'm not the one dailying the thing but i use it every now and then
and if it's being handled just fine by someone who isn't tech-oriented
it's also very much not a phone for everyone
i think it's tough enough
too tall for me though
if it were wider and shorter than 150mm i'd use it
it's mostly for productivity freaks like myself
it also doesn't make a whole bunch of sense to me next to an actual tablet
which i prefer to use
and daily
but if they make a smaller or triple fold i might take to that
right now my concern is the s23 doesn't sound very exciting but i might want to switch this s21 out because it honestly feels worse than the s10 before it

s21 is generally more prone to heat and slowdown and its camera app takes way too long to start
I'm not swapping back to normal phones
the flip on the other hand is too small and lacks practical purpose without having the charm of the razr
the flip is a gimmick
if u want foldable then fold
tbh id like the xperia 5
u actually get benefits
pretty much
but one thing i find disappointing is no s-pen support on the outer screen
I have some cheap chinese keyboard and i wanna get different keys for it
How do i know what to get
huh
just get what you think looks nice
if you're replacing the keycaps on your current keyboard, make sure it's compatible with your switches
it should tell you
How do i know which ones my keyboard has
cherry has that + shape
I think thats it
switches like outemu have the same shape as cherry switches, so you can use cherry shape keycaps on outemu keyboards
Mine has like that but blue
The keys on it are like pink and chrome typewriter style ones
Very ugly
@wintry forge whats wrong with the blue ones
clicky
Ice is talking about the type of mechanical switch, they come in 3 main types
Very common misconception that gaming brands have unfortunately perpetuated is of all mechanical switches being clicky
Ironically, clicky switches are the worse for gaming since they tend to have higher hysteresis and therefore can't be mashed as rapidly
not sure if that's ironic
Why would you get mechanical if it isnt clicky
Easier to use hiw
doesn't degrade like membrane
in a membrane, you have to bottom out in order for the key to register
while mechanicals only require you to travel past a certain distance to register, which is often a much lower actuation distance
some mechanical switches require much less strength to press down than membrane
it also doesn't have that mushy feeling when pressing down on the keys
Clicky switches are best for typists because they offer both an auditory and physical feedback to the user, letting them know that their keystroke has been made
Linear switches are best for gaming because they don't have a tactile bump slowing you down
Tactile switches are a sorta hybrid between the two, they're okay for gaming while offering a physical feedback for typing
clicky is just unnecessary
Of course like 90% of it is just personal preference but from a general standpoint you get what I mean
I'd say yes and no, for hardcore typists the audible feedback is useful, if you're wearing headphones or something then it's kinda pointless
And of course gamers don't need a physical or audible feedback because their keystroke is already apparent by whatever action is happening in game
i prefer tactile
i can't stand the clicking
i also like having some feel even for games
clicky is fun
doesnt really bother me, even with headphones on i like the feel of it a lot better
i like my keyboard as quiet as possible
a what
the auditory feedback is sort of meaningless for me
i type without looking
oh
i mean i do to but i still like the feedback
wouldnt it be the other way around
dont know i like things as quiet as possible
the feeling in my hands is enough
im accustomed to membranes
ive used membrane mostly untill recently
dont see how
i also want a logi mx silent mouse so
i just plain prefer as little noise as possible
there was a period i shared a computer room so
maybe it's also a descendant of a desire to be as unobtrusive as possible
i prefer the feel of a damped mechanical switch
i mostly got it for the looks not really the quiet aspect
but i certainly prefer the relative "silence" of a membrane
my cpu cooler is hella weak anyways so it stays maxed out
be quiets aren't strictly that quiet all the time
but they make a lower tone than most others
thats the whole point of the brand
EK vardars are loud but they push a lot of air through radiators
no idea what that is
i cant afford any liquid cooling nonsense
so they end up restricting airflow
i prefer that look
but they up the fans to compensate
so it results in a subjectively quieter sound most of the times
looks really nice
but objectively louder
thats why places like GN don't reflect the reality of cases sometimes
but at the same time a mesh 'open' front with a slow fan setting can sometimes get objectively better cooling and still sound quieter
i like how igor's lab includes sound recordings
it's why i chose noctua fans
they're not necessarily the absolute quietest fan but they never make an offensive sound
well
the two IPPC fans aside

those two get hair dryer loud
one thing i liked about the razer basilisk ultimate's optical switches were that they made a lower pitched click for some reason
it was barely any softer in absolute terms but it had a lower pitch
also from my experience mechanical switches
clicky or not
still make a loud clack
and that's more than loud enough feedback for me
minimal noise is calming/relaxing
i'm just
trying to still figure out
why one of my fans stops
when theyre set to full in this set
4 of them in this daisy chain set and they all work fine until >77% pwm one of them will stop

what are the odds of not enough power delivery
i asked that question but was told it seems unlikely
they're apparently only 0.14A each
it's a chain of four fans connected to one header
and it's one of the middle ones that stops
🤝
I've got a set of U4 silent tactile switches arriving today
so you like the feeling of sand in your switches

the thing that upsets me about the custom keyboard trend
I've used U4 switches before and like the feel
is that till now
even with how pervasive custom keyboarding is
i can't find a nice kit with macro keys and other extras
And yeah the silicone dampers are awesome
i like having dampeners
I thought they would be kinda membrane squishy but they're super satisfying
Like a mechanical version of a IBM Thinkpad keyboard
yes i used a damped brown for a while
it felt more substantial and precise than a membrane
but with a quieter cush than you get with an otherwise undamped switch
felt a nice both worlds happy medium
i liked the feel as a whole
Also yeah this lmao
Just finding one with a numpad is hard enough
i basically want this layout
i can't live without media keys
i hate fn combinations
And don't you dare ask the community why
"BRO ARE YOU DUMB WHO THE HELL NEEDS A NUMPAD, ACTUAL BLOAT. JUST LEARN TO TYPE, STUPID"
just learn to type
i want those keys so i have more room to bind things in a game or use as a
...idk
a numpad??
or, idk, use altcodes??
"BRO JUST PRESS THIS 4 KEY COMBINATION IT'S EASY, ARE YOU STUPID?"
i demand 1. macro keys with banks and a MR key
2. a numpad
3. media keys
- a brightness wheel
Arma 3 is one of those games with like 120 controls
a friend of mine got me into star citizen

but yes i absolutely insist on having macro keys
and media keys
i'm also painfully sad that
nobody picked up on the cruise control feature in the sidewinder
i enjoyed that tremendously
i also enjoyed the removable numpad
that was clever
i kind of wish i had a mic mute button now though
i would honestly like to have the old G15 back
it had a good layout
i think only logi's orion would have all the keys i actually want
i'm biased for sure but the sidewinder really did have a perfect layout for me
it's just a shame it had messed up ghosting clusters
i designed a keyboard overnight once
it's something like if a G15v2 and a SW combined
I've used an Orion for about 6 or 7 years now and it's nice but started double pressing a lot of keys recently
I also have a custom designed keyboard hanging on my wall because the firmware doesn't work properly lol
Nah it's my fault
Don't be put off
I can't program for shit
I wanted to make it PS/2, which basically meant getting my friend to write the whole thing from scratch
did it get bricked or something
i remember i kept a ps/2 keyboard around
because my old motherboard needed a PS/2 keyboard to control the OC-key
Still wanna get a old ibm ps/2 keyboard
Anyways why are keycaps so expensive
60-100$ is a lot
are you looking at like
fancy pbt double shots
i wonder how much it would cost to actually produce this
dunno what you're looking for, but there are plenty of affordable keycaps
Because brands know that people will pay that much for meme plastic lol
Custom keyboard shit is like audio gear; marked up to hell and back because they know people will still buy it
Zeal is the worst
He sells stabiliser kits for like $50 meanwhile you can find the same thing on Aliexpress for less than $10, and I don't mean crappy knockoffs, the Aliexpress ones actually fool people in blind tests
Zeal bans you from his discord server if you even mention the Aliexpress stabs

cuz everyone and their mum wants a 70% layout for some god damn reason
fuck keyboards without numpads
if i want to save space, i'd use a fking laptop
why dont you 70% your monitor as well
Hey i like 4:3 monitors
I wanted some sort of design but anything remotely interesting is expensive
4:3 monitors is like old CRT monitor
its already a flat panel
from 2013 or 2014
I forgot
thats the year when my parents build a internet cafe
its 16 inch man
Was it a pvm crt or a consumer grade
i could actually do with a squarer display for my sides
because i mostly need it for like chat windows
and having another widescreen at 90° from a super ultrawide
is kinda hard on my neck

do steelseries and roccat and the rest of them really not make keyboards with dedicated macro keys anymore

I did, then I hung it up on the wall

The case for it is somewhere else but I have 4 spare PCBs if anyone wants them lol

damn
4090 or 3070 or a770
what are you going to use the GPU for?
would you rather have a 1.7k GPU or a 800$ gpu + more
or even less A770 is like what $500?
if you dont need something uber just go for a middle ground in case you want to play something heavier down the line
imo 3070 is the way to go
especially for that price
now you have 1.4k$ more in your pocket for beer
and some more

god I wish I could find a 3070 for $330
i've seen some for sub $400 on r/hardwareswap
there was a 3090 for $750 just a while ago
sounds sussy af ngl
I barely find anything in UK
not like I need anything new lately tbh
it murican centric ye
currently just looking at security cameras
smh shit so expensive in EU
compared to the US
for the same model
well hardwareswap does certify deals mostly, and payment is done thru paypal invoicing, so its pretty safe
same here, the 4090 is $2800 locally
I am usually wary of forum sales
I did few back in the day
but when I was in italy
when after fx it should be $2300
is UK pretty safe for these things as well?
esp if local deals
LMFAO
usually if you do deal locally, you want to bring someone with you all the time
i got 2 1080 supers from r/hardwareswap before, was an excellent price
I remember bringing my cousin with me to buy a bunch of 3DSes to then resale later down the line

SHUT IT
how is shipping price?

damn now I wanna scroll through /r/hardwareswap
fuck 9:15 I should open my client laptop
brb
well better lmao
sold them off for a teeny profit locally, since local prices whack af
i do not need anything yet, but if they sell security cameras and maybe server stff i might look into it
they have those sometimes, but rare
yeah i imagined
Yeah it's my own confusing layout
I screwed around with different layouts for a while until deciding on that one
It's perfectly tailored to my use case and absolutely no one elses lmao
Also as if you guys don't have safe selling spaces? Over here you're allowed to meet up outside police stations in order to make safe trades
4090 here is like 1700$
US
but most official retailer sell em 1900s
these are brand new stuff but yeah
3070 for fish is more thaan fine
$330 nonetheless
also getting excited to look into kubernetees for home server
the cheapest 3070 I found here is 6million IDR or around 380 390 USD
and 50$ less for EX MINING product
yeah just Indonesian stuff I guess
I wished to live in Europe or somewhere else
Let's see.. cheapest 3070 here
$690 (USD)
gg
And yes, I live in one of the European countries (not stating where exactly) so yeah, if you thought prices there are bad, you ain't seen nothing yet lmao
eh not the best tbh lmao
inflation is killing us here
same everything is like +10-20% here
oh god why
GOD WHAT THE FUCK
electricity is up 60%
electricity is 4% gain
fuel 35%
food and livestock 20%
internet monthly 30%
Electronics 0-8%
we already know ur from eastern EU by considering how big of a cunt you are when we state something like keeping e-waste down
No need for that tone to be honest
I have one mindset in buying
Consider, You want it, You need it, Can Afford, Just buy it nothing less

In fact it wasn't even addressed to you Yamato, so calm down please

learning
you need a computer cluster for that
not just one
docker orchestrations

I already use docker compose. I mean container orchestration
Unless you can do orchestration with compose but never really looked into it
yes it can do that
outside of scaling
bit that's a whole other topic
scaling implies cloud compute which implies more than one server in more than one region/data center
used, not new
Nah, new my dude.
Here I mean
yes, and i mean that we were talking about used
Ah, in that case.. cheapest is $450 USD used, here
but goddamn, everytime i see a 4090, i wanna just pull the trigger
if you're so rich buy me one

im not rich
smh
i just make bad financial decisions
Like everyone really
lets suppose you buy a 4090
Can relate as well
furnace edition

this is mah case
damn thats massive
It's pretty much empty rn
that cat is triggering
smh the ventilation
using the top as exhaust?
top and rear ye
i know
i shall just wait for nov 3rd, maybe amd will give us early christmas gifts
Hmmm i hope
miner warehouse
fking intel didnt launch the a770 in singapore
with the energy prices here even as miner you would be in red
if not i'd just grab one this instant
mining is dead now pretty much anyway
didnt they launch it in KR and other parts of Asia first
singapore is too small of a market
damn the scam
either way
maybe the next big ones from Intel
I hope they breakthrough
nvidia currently dominating basically
that is true
besides, its the drivers shitting on intel rn
based on current drivers, the a770 can match the 3070 in some scenarios
with raytracing
even amd cant do that

i remember checking it out a bit
but then saw poor performance in some common scenarios and thought "will be better next time"
@quartz atlas I have sent away my 4090 ES and getting a retail one instead
if there will be some mod
i will try
i have rtx 3070
soo its the same like your gpu xD
clearly
idk yet i know why my case is like almost out of usable space despite being as big as a cosmos

im wondering if i should trade out for the 4090 or idk get a 6900XT subcard
i need more vram apparently
vram for what
Been looking at building a custom keyboard but even the budget ones are expensive compared to the cheap preassembled ones
I mean that's the point of custom keyboards
they're bespoke, not affordable
if you want cheap then get something off the shelf
I figured itd be cheaper
in what way
Cost
all parts are custom made
how could it compete against something that's mass produced in terms of price
I might just get a cheap mechanical one and swap out the caps
I wouldn't even do that unless the legend on them is so horrendous
because most of the time you'll be looking at the screen not the keyboard
if you're not sure what switch or keycap you want to use, just get one of those hotswappable keyboards that you can find for like $40 on amazon or something
then once you found what you like, buy a more better built keyboard
if you're contempt with your current keyboard, then I don't see a reason buying a new keyboard unless it's your hobby or something
Custom loop?
I mean kinda
I think ill like the red switches better
The keyboard i have is horribly ugly
i dont think its hot swappable, but it feels like good quality
well decent
I need a new psu even if I get a 3070
My current one is 550w
you should be fine
i have a 650w psu for my 3070 and even it feels like not enough
Nah, I have 4 140mm fans, 1 360aio with 3 fans, 4 ssd, 2 hdd.
All the fans are rgb

Also, it's a $50 psu
I should not try to go above 500w

i spent like 100$ on mine
its not even a high rating
some 80+ bronze evga power supply
Ah fuck it. 4090 time, unless the 4080 16gb drops to 799 or smth.

I'm going to wait for rx 7000 series to see if they have better rasterisation performance per watt
though, rtx 4000 series looks like it's significantly more power efficient than the rtx 3000 series
I'm only waiting to see if amd can pull a magic rabbit out of their hat with regards to dxr performance
Highly doubt so tho
it turns out if you run near 4K with two secondary monitors you need more than 12GB of VRAM

yes
but also because it has a lot of stuff inside

Can relate
I have two motherboards installed and my case still feels roomy
this is part of my problem
well
sans the still feels roomy part
no you don't
running the monitors requires GPU horsepower, now if u open a game or smth in 4K that's a whole another story
ans even there you're better off running it off a SSD
like
More displays actually running stuff will definitely chew more VRAM but you're somewhat right, you certainly don't need 12GB
It will depend greatly on what you actually have running on those displays
i mean im hitting vram limits in a game
when normally people say the card is good for 4K
so
apparently the excess vram consumption on the secondaries is enough to force me down to medium textures
It will depend on the game
far cry 6 is already known to be too much with the high texture pack
I remember running cyberpunk at 1080p on a 3090 for the lulz and it was still burning 13GB of VRAM lol
Cyberpunk moment
but doom eternal and nfs heat apparently run into vram bottlenecks
it's naturally worse if obs is running
since that requires vram too
Also damn the cosmos is bigger than I remember, it's wider than my case
But mine is longer
Yea lol
if the cosmos had an official multi mobo kit i would've probably gone with it
but then again it also weighs like 22kg empty
I remember watching a LTT video on it many many years ago and he said it was almost exactly 50lbs
that is absolutely normal in 4K
add all the stuff in and my current system is already like 30kg i think
yes this is not news
but it's why i need more vram
no you don't
pretty sure it hitting virtual vram and going to 100% at 10fps isn't going to be solved without more vram
you kust need a good SSD or smth so you can load the assets fast enough into the video buffer so that the game won't studder or have frametime spikes
i already have an 100% ssd storage system
that is not the problem
on that note also some games just don't play well with VRAM management
halo infinite for one has clearly got some kind of VRAM leak
it fails to unload assets properly
after about a dozen matches the game starts chugging along with the VRAM basically maxed
I run FS2020 on a triple screen setup with everything maxxed and I can tell you that eats more than 12 GB of VRAM yet it's more than fine because the game runs off a decently speedy SSD
According to the internet, my case without any optional extras is only 13kg
I think mine was around 20kg in box with the extras
but you have a 3090 don't you
I run it on a 1080 Ti
I could run a 3090
but it doesn't need to
unless I go into some super busy airport then I may need it
well then if FS2020 is well optimised for asset streaming management
it's certainly not the case for the other games
also idk are you running other background vram eating apps
wallpaper engine and discord are always open
because i mostly get the problem exacerbated by
having obs open
and i had nfs heat running at 4fps
until i closed photoshop
which i had left open
that sounds more like a RAM or CPU issue than GPU
halo infinite claims it only needs 6GB of VRAM at my settings but apparently it has both that memory leak
Yeah I was gonna say this
FS2020 was designed to run perfectly on the Xbox, which itself is known for the ultra fast meme storage
It makes sense that M$ would prioritise better VRAM management instead of higher usage
and apparently an actual need of like 8GB at my settings
based on my memory usage reporting
stop talking out of your ass
5950X and 128GB of memory so doubt it
I mean I'm not wrong
FS2020 was not designed for the Xbox
I never said that
I said it was designed to run perfectly on the xbox, not specifically for the xbox
photoshop eats up to 4GB or even 8GB if left unchecked
video editor also apparently crashed yesterday when i hit a VRAM overload
Read slower next time please
it's pc first and foremost, the Xbox port was possible due to the xbox using the same API as the pc version with some small changes and on both the Direct Stream API is not publicly available yet
the data streaming that FS2020 does is for the map data not textures
oh and i think the most major sign i'm having VRAM limits
is that lowering texture settings
and that comes from the cloud not storage
often mitigates it
It was designed for the PC first and foremost, but it was optimised to also run perfectly on the xbox
Glad we can agree
well yeah because at 4K you're bottlenecked by the speed of your CPU
since it can't feed the GPU fast enough
you're telling me a 5950X is the bottleneck that makes the game run at 5fps
and the gpu is at 100% usage

it doesn't run perfectly on the fridge, it runs worse actually
FS2020 is a demanding title in terms of raw CPU power
i can completely replicate the issue by leaving photoshop open on a file so it eats some VRAM
launch NFS heat and turn on DOF/textures to ultra
my 8700K is always pegged at 100%
why would you have PS open when you game
closing photoshop to release the VRAM
instantly fixes it
i used to work in CS5 i'm used to absent mindedly half working half playing a game
also PS does use hardware acceleration to display and allow for smooth zoom control
or when taking screenshots and then having to fix the HDR
yes, so it uses VRAM
it's relative to the canvas size
if you're telling me my system memory and CPU are bottlenecks here I find that exceptionally hard to believe
especially since neither of those things are being maxed in the situation
i checked with other friends who experienced similar things and they both said it was a vram limit and they're more certain because they have like 3GB cards
which GPU you had again 6900XT?
3080
so 10GB
but 12GB on a 3080Ti looks like it might be insufficient
The typical consumer TV is 4k and only 60hz, which the xbox delivers just fine. So I'd call it "running perfectly"
Sure it dips well below 120fps but hardly anyone with an xbox will notice that
i have a total of like almost 13 megapixels of screen estate
okay not almost
13.1MP
Man what am I doing here, my PC is in bits scattered across the spare room table and I've been procrastinating the whole time
also i expect that despite being in absolute terms lower resolution than 4K
my setup might actually need more VRAM because it's ultrawide
tf are you on about, nobody plays FS2020 in 240FPS for the quickest of reflexes
so it needs even more assets loaded/displayed than normal
most pilots run it at 60 on pc as well because there isn't much happening on screen
I'm saying the game runs at over 60fps which is "perfect" by console standards
meanwhile me seeing someone do some kind of train track high speed run on twitter

it has to look good rather than run ultra fast
the PS5 and the fridge now run most games at 120 if your monitor allows it
with dynamic refresh rate support
needs HDMI 2.0 but
otherwise yes
they do it if the game supports it
so apparently gotham knights will run at 30fps
I am aware
mosg games support it unless you're talking about generation ports or 3rd party games
all first party games on either side full utilize it
Yes
GTA 5 still works like shit on the PS5
that's fine because i neither want to ever touch GTA 5 nor do i own a PS5

apparently no new studio driver yet with the dx12 performance boosts

it's bcz most of these older console ports are just rebuilding for the new console and calling it a day
no optimization, no use of new APIs and features, just a way to make a quick buck
i'm still wondering if i should get that 6900xt since they have a spare waterblock they'll throw in for free
it means running two gpus and potentially driver mishaps
but it might be fun
but probably just switching to a 4090 is the least headache inducing
probably
dual GPU setups are dumb unless you run a render farm or smth like a pixar workstation
in my case it might make sense so i have something to offload obs and vts to
that would be my prime motivation
and even then you use quadros with NVLink
also in this case the 6900xt plays nicer with some games like forza horizon 5
basically whatever is an xbox "exclusive"
air quotes because they're not exclusive anymore obviously
also the other reason is because
nvidia still won't allow acceleration in several ISV software
so a radeon 6500XT has more performance in said app than a 4090
annoyingly i happen to use one that is on the sad list
the thing that upsets me about the 3090 is that it doesn't have titan-style drivers so it doesn't have the partial unlock the titan did
sure is nice having a viewport that runs at one frame per three seconds
at 100% cpu usage

what partial unlock, SR-IOV?
I'm half tempted to get a cheap AMD card because I really miss their recording software
Nvidia Shadowplay doesn't let you use a RAM buffer
So you're constantly wrecking the SSD
i legitimately considered for a good long while getting a titan rtx instead of a 3080
do you use NX?
though i think one of my other considered plans was a 3080 + WX4100 or whatever the rdna2 entry level pro was
unfortunately yes
solidworks doesn't have this problem

then why not have your workplace fund you your needed gear
independent things
so for yourself?

this machine is my all-in-one
hence its extravagant specification
it's also supposed to be another ten year build so
still wishing i had the 4TB firecuda 530s
that said nx is not a priority but it sure would be nice

what about it
my asus zenfone 9 is buttery smooth
why would you buy a new iphone
I typically spring for an upgrade every coupla years.
Oof
Damn, man. How the?
the a02 died when i was working on my car and it fell out of my pocket i think
LG and Z flip died for seemingly no reason
Kinda scared of flip phones. I'm a klutzy MF. At least a "normal" phone, I can case/screen protector.
No RMA?
what does that mean
oh no i couldnt return it
guy i bought it from never fucking got back to me
i might try my luck with a refirbished razr those have gotten pretty cheap
Haven't done Motorola in a few years. Even then, I stayed in their midranger set.
ive never really liked motorola but with the luck ive had with samsung
dont really have another option
i like LG but they dont make phones anymore
True. And depending on where you live, Google might not be an option.
Good choice. Much better than buying a Samsung
soooo smooth
literally
still have the pixel 6 with me but iOS it's just so dumb down no need to fiddle
and with airpods is so goood
Well, same question why would someone buy e.g. a new car, or something else. It's their money really so it is what it is
bish
they're both shit
you're just picking the lesser of the two evils
samsung has too much bloatware for my comfort
Samsung just kinda werks for me, these days you can remove a good amount of the bloat
The gimmicky 100x camera zoom feature is actually super useful for me at work
I often need to check labels on things that I can't physically get close to without either moving a bunch of other stuff or getting equipment, the camera zoom lets me check even tiny text on the label from up to like 10 meters away
as long as it serves your needs
new i9 13 gen 332W in Cinebench R32
More than my entire system at 100%
Whats wrong with samsung
Besides the extra shit they install
I mean ive broken every samsung ive owned and i assumed it was user error
samsung phones seems to be having a lot of battery issues
its when u dont use phone
like 1 year +
the same was with my sony smartwatch
1 gen
i dont use it like 1 year
they give me new one
