Ive never had issues with scoring. The real mystery is how matchmaking works. Experienced eos players get a "feel" of when an opponent refresh can give a free +1 but its not exact. I wonder how it works exactly.

if you open the ranking ladder in the last 5 seconds or so, you can see what's presumably the final scores

Sandbagging is mostly for trying to reach the highest ranks/ merit rewards.
You can just just fight the enemies you can beat (even if they're not higher ranked) if you want to feed your PR ships xp

as long as you win every fight youre almost guaranteed to get AOTN
most of the times its easy to see who did their fights
the super tryhard stuff is for when you want to do the 5 fights at AOTN for 100 points per fight
but the effort to get 50 freaking merit is so not worth it
unless you get off to leaderboard screenshots 5s before reset

I use boiler on offense. But yes, 3 or 4 is recommended so you have a better chance of dodging BB shells and torpedoes
Remember, pvp is all auto.
