It’s the 81st righ
I have a throat infection
Oof

Also that’s really interesting
Hood is dying in the prelude
And we’ll see it on there 21st
Can't be something the Dutch shot at. When the Dutch silenced artillery at Sicily they hit the artillery itself.

Smh Australian
touch touch
HMAS Brisbane's bridge and gun
Because Canberra is a poor location for a naval museum but the war memorial needed some way of recognising the navy
Given like 70% of the indoor space is just air force stuff
We are very proud of our air force sometimes I get concerned we go too far but then I look at Canada and decide we're fine
?
a random maple leaf boye appears
we're basically the opposite
nobody really cares about our military at all
in the grand scheme of things
It's a fucking miracle you didn't go with the gripen
i care about your weird leopard refits
I would have been surprised if we went with the Gripen
it's kind of a nonsensical pick
A world where Australia gives so little a fuck about defence that we went with Gripen is not one I'd want to live in
We have a weird relationship with the military culturally and shit
the Canadian Army is the only branch to really have got any public attention
the airforce to a more limited degree
the Navy is the forgotten branch largely
The air force has always gotten the lions share of attention in the modern age
But sometimes Canadians have a very weird taste in weapons.
I still remember the Inglis Hi-Power being a bit of a meme back in the day.
2nd oldest air force in the world fuck you South Africa
back in the day?
we still use it now lol
the Army got all of the glory for fighting land engagements throughout the years
the Navy was always relegated to largely supporting roles due to a lack of funding
they never got their battle
Historically yeah people pay more attention to the army
But the navy has always been important
And we're very proud of our air force
I mean back when some enthusiasts (and veterans too) decided to put FN parts to ther Inglis then figured out it was way off because of different measurement
what y'all need is a good and proper domestic vanity project like the dumb korean carrier
yeah you guys didn't have salty french people trying to get rid of your recently founded navy
😭
Canadian America class
my brother in christ you need actual escorts first
Solomon Islands looking kinds sussy
We have the Hobart's they're fine for escorting a light carrier
Bruh, my girlfriend in Ontario once complained that the Army always gets the bling compared to the other branches.
Especially now we're discussing getting another 3
it's funny because the Army isn't getting anything
and the Navy and Airforce is getting all of the major funding atm
The Diemanco C8 is a mistake
Hobarts are a bit sussy for escort work even for one carrier
rule of thumb is generally you need three ships minimum to have one operational at all times
that's the bare minimum
there's been no indication I've seen that you guys will get 3 more
Depends who wins the election
it's Hunters or nothing
Navantia offered to build 3 more and the opposition leader said if elected (election is tomorrow) he'll go for it
I'll believe it when I see it
talk is cheap especially from politicians around elections
the main issue is that you guys have had at minimum a two year lapse since you commissioned the last ship
Navantia cringe
since the original plan was never for more than the original order, the yards very likely didn't keep themselves at a point where they are ready to jump into continued production
also yes navantia cringe
it very likely isn't as easy of an option as some people say it is
They're talking about partially building them in Spain to deal with potential issues with Osborne shipyard
that only gives you time to potentially address the issue
it doesn't necessarily solve it
people who work in shipyards don't sit around
It's up in the works rn anyway and it's not like the people who worked on the initial block disappeared
they generally move to where the work is
they also very likely haven't been sitting around for over two years waiting for work to fall into their laps
The work is in Osborne and Henderson
Henderson especially is pumping out ships every 2-3 months
Don't think old Scott will boost the Navy if he gets reelected there.
Scomo will
But he's a fuckhead
Both leaders have the exact same policy on naval expansion
As in we need it urgently
if the plans for Australia to upgrade the current Hobarts to better radars and other systems is true, you could be looking at even more delays and issues
That's the main issue yea
if they are redesigning to get these new systems into another trio from the start
Regardless the political drive is there
TBH I'd actually argue - had this been done from the start - that buying more Hobarts and not trying to stick CEAFAR2, or at least using a reduced version on the Hunters, would have been the better bet
I'd get you could save a significant amount of weight not bothering with the L-band panels
The Solomon's debacle has proven that we need a bigger navy and we need it 5 years ago
Tbh we need the Hunters to act as front-line combatants too
We need the mission Bay and we need peer combatant capability and sacrifices needed to be made
And they can, it's just, they do so with a less bulky radar suite and just stick with doing local AAW and the ability to contribute to medium-range AAW
And leave the more intensive AAW stuff to the actual AAW destroyers
that's the price you pay for propping up domestic radar development
and seemingly going so hard into a large radar array
this doesn't look especially "based" to me
five head
it keeps getting stupider and stupider looking as time passes
5head gonna detect yo dollar store 5th gen and yeet it
SPY-7 rise up
Cring
Pretty much so. and by the way, your closest neighbors aren't really a problem since our Navy sucks, even compared to the Singaporeans
Singapore's navy is a glorified fishing trawler with some VLS cells
RAN isn't at the peak of its power like it arguably was in the 60s but were getting back there
Crawling back slowly yet surely
Mainly because a good navy actually has a reason to exist now like it didn't in the 60s
I do agree with Phoenix
I think it would have been worthwhile to invest in AAW capability from the start
He makes a good point yes
instead of trying to squeeze it into the Hunters
Indonesia on its way to get 4 different frigate models from 3 different countries
Canada has the excuse of doing it with CSC since we're going for a one stop shop for the entire Navy with one design
but Australia has an AAW and ASW split
feels like they are too far into the Hunter program to divert now
half of this wont end up anywhere but lmao
Yeah but defence spending is only going to get higher after this election
There will be more ships
Hunters are done and dusted, no government will risk a second Attack class debacle
I wouldn't be so immediately sure
Our navy expansion is pretty much a meme at this point.
That Sverdlov-class cruiser we had in the sixties were the peak of our naval power, and that's it.
you guys are staring down the barrel of the most ambitious submarine procurement in the world in recent memory
But the profound need to immediate modernisation and expansion and replacement of previous shitty procurements has become the driving force of modern defence policy
The big guy above does cause some panic. It's good that Australia is improving their military budget. Especially with nuclear submarine step
based as fuck
Oh boy that will take a long time
Honestly it's a good thing we're going for them
flex on shitty conventional boats
But the way we went about it
you guys signed the deal with the devil when you agreed to the Attack class with France
Stabbing one of our closest regional partners in the back like that
France did not have your interests in mind and you guys built off ramps into the program
France can get fucked
All of the issues were having with the French could have been avoided if we just allowed them in the tender process for the new boats
French nuclear submarines are entirely unsuited to your political and operational needs
An open and fair submarine competition would have avoided these issues
doesn't need to be selected
Irrelevant, at least including them would have meant they wouldn't be as pissed off
the issue is just booting them out like absolute cunts
Exactly
I have minimal sympathy when France was acting belligerent towards their own customer
They're probably our 2nd closest defence partner right now behind only the US
Or at least
Were
you don't really get a rep for being a good trade partner when you just ghost a huge ally knee deep in a procurement program and then ghost them on the replacement
French nuclear submarines do not run off the "lifetime closed reactor" system like US reactors
The French were being cunts too but they should have been included in the tender process regardless
they run off much lower grade fuel and require them to be ripped open and refueled every decade or so
that is a deal breaker for Australia
US reactors are a closed module you drop into the hull and plug in
and is good for the lifetime of the boat
Tfw Australia gets nuclear subs before nuclear reactors
There's so much more to this than just subs because France is one of the few definite allies we have that more or less borders us
There's a nuclear reactor in Australia

sadly that nuclear reactor is for medical isotopes
The Open-pool Australian lightwater reactor (OPAL) is a 20 megawatt (MW) swimming pool nuclear research reactor. Officially opened in April 2007, it replaced the High Flux Australian Reactor as Australia's only nuclear reactor, and is located at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) Research Establishment in Lucas He...
From when is project 72
Oh that kind of nuclear reactor
The Australians built off ramps into this program so they could leave whenever they felt like it. Was it right for them to do it in the way they did? I don't think so but you also have to realize what the French were doing to Australia here. One of the main reasons why this program went through and the agreement was signed was for major development to Australian submarine industry and to build the boats largely in Australia. Throughout the process, France repeatedly renegotiated larger and larger percentages of work away from Australia and back into France itself.
Unlike Europe and America, Australia can be an energy exporter on pure solar and wind
the French effectively did this to themselves
Yeah, the Mogami's are straight-up not a thing as far as the Indonesian Navy's procurement is concerned. It went nowhere but still got included in the graphic because, uh, enthusiasm on the part of the creator
even if the Australians weren't entirely diplomatic about the exit from the program
France signed onto the deal full well knowing Australia wanted this done domestically at basically any cost and continued to cut into that fact as time went on
basically undermined the project as a whole
that's a good joke
In the words of a former German energy minister "the best place in Germany for solar energy is worse than the worst place in Australia for solar energy"
Which is why Europe needs nuclear power, but we don't
there's also a huge swath of complications and issues with the Attack class design as a whole
And never will
it was immensely risky
have fun with a powergrid that is constantly dying due to base load issues
French nuclear submarine turned conventional with American tech rammed into it
The Attacks were a very sketchy program from the start
that is asking for a disaster
And I'm not saying they should have gone ahead at all
although atleast Australia seemingly has the deep pockets, allied support and political willpower to go ahead with nuclear subs
makes me jealous
I'm just saying we should have been nicer to one of the only nations that basically borders us
I agree to a point
This tbh. also, after that U-boat (read: our old German bought subs) sinking incident last year, the current narrative that are running is we also want to modernize our existing U-Boats
but they screwed you guys over
so you screwed them
France getting called out and owned immensely publicly for a classic move they usually get away with was worth its weight in gold
it was some incredibly top shelf seethe that was pretty unrivaled until
recent events
it's hard being the bad guy

true, even in here
I can only hope our submarine replacement plan gets half of the attention or urgency as either Australian one did
smh
Raping and pillaging indigenous lands when a perfectly viable alternative that is especially suited to our conditions isn't really the way we probably want to go forward with our future energy needs
forever banished to the euro export boats
truly the worst of fates
I'm pretty happy with the way defence is going in terms of spending rn
In the last 10 years the navy has gone from a pretty obsolete force running mediocre second line frigates and some 30+ year old destroyers to replacing old assets, expanding capability and modernising the Anzacs
The air force has gone from a very capable force to an even more capable force operating modern 5th gen and expanding by an additional squadron of fighters
The army meanwhile is currently going through that same modernisation phase, just finished replacing the old F88s for new EF88s, is about to begin replacing old M113s and is about to become the first non-US operator of full spec Abrams'
And defence spending is only increasing
Remember the optimistic ramps on the Canberra's friend
"hello parliament yes we need aircraft carriers"
justifies increased AAW escort like a boss
So the Forrestals
Stare at them and pray
Bankroll the construction of another yard in the US that can build carriers and build some modern Forrestal's/Kitty Hawks in there.
That way the Americans will build some for you and them
And Whatismoo can get his CVL force for the Atlantic
🙏
The cope slope is only there because one officer was feeling very cheap, and very optimistic at the same time
flex on anglos by getting small catobar ship with functioning awacs and F-35C
We already flex on the anglos by having an objectively better air force than them
Alternatively throw enough money and, uh, hookers and blow at congress, until they let you buy NGAD
lmfao
NGAD-capable CVL (aka CV for any navy other than the USN)
Honestly tho baby CdG would prolly be the best option for the RAN going forward
you guys can likely get a good deal on F-35C once NGAD comes up
Yes I am advocating for basically a bigger Majestic class how can you tell
Moo's CVL idea is basically perfect for you then
MMI would want in on this for when it has to replace Cavour since who knows if we ever get another S/TOVL aircraft
tfw the closest I will ever get to Australia in NATO is that I'm in Istanbul right now
Bring back SEATO
my condolences
that's a funny way to talk about nuclear when solar looks like... well
hm yes
muh very untouched natural beauty
literally liquid salt
Solar can be done on land that isn't indigenously owned
so can nuclear
All of the mineable uranium in Australia is on indigenous land
so what
In fact uranium mining is inherently exploitative of indigenous people
it's a mine shaft
So what it's their fucking land and they don't want uranium mines
It's their land
Global Warming is good
More habitable land for Siberia
To deny them their right to decide what happens with their land
Is nothing more than the continuation of genocide
So unless you're advocating genocide here, "fuck em" isn't the attitude we should be taking to their native land rights
🦅
The theft of land and forced displacement of indigenous people is a form of cultural genocide
didn't you already debate this with jaba before
They have a sprititual and cultural connection with this land
To force them off it is genocide
Wish I had spiritual connection with Soyuz
who said anything about forcing them off
just because Australia is broke and resorts to strip and open pit mining doesn't mean that's the only option
You have to force them off if they say "no we don't want uranium mines on our land"
no you don't lol
Australia universally uses open pit mining these days
that's what was disproven in the last time this came up yeah
well australia can either go nuclear or depend on chinese solar panel contracts for the foreseeable future
or wacky solar farm projects
Because strip mining is obsolete

China builds like %70? Of world's solar panels
Literally all the resources in those solar panels are mined here already
in what way
China has a monopoly on rare earth so yes
but it's usually a good deal to get them from there
I mean that you are right, last time it was jaba pulling out nuclear papers
as long as you're willing to spend time to check each panel from the chinese factory
I'm not making the same point as last time
figured as much
Tfw more demand for solar panels= more production needed= China will burn more coal in factories= pollution = more demand for solar panels
Last time my argument was the environmental destruction caused by outdated mining techniques
My argument currently is that indigenous people have the right to say what happens on their land
yes but what about relative CO2 emmissions
Doesn't matter what it is
sure
They have a right to the final say
they can certainly think that
We spent 200 years saying "fuck em" to our indigenous peoples
if it doesn't disturb the land, what's the point
We are not going back
saying no to say no
of course we're also basing this off the comment of 'every single piece of nuclear fuel in australia is not owned by australia'
australia could go solar and then invest in H2 production and make that their main export
You can want to go back like some fucking weird genocide advocating maniac but you'll find most Australians don't want that
All of the sizeable deposits are in indigenous land
What if you paid the indigenous peoples for uranium
There are deposits on crown land and the like but it's not large enough to justify large scale mining operations
Chocolate
6" AP is the world reserve currency
Similar shits been tried and they've always said they want their land not money
so let them keep the land lmao
Indigenous poverty is a huge issue especially in rural Australia
Offer more money
usage without ownership under contract is a thing
this is just looking for excuses to keep sucking off China so you can keep going solar
oh we're talking about those aboriginals
The money would definitely help their communities
But again, these people don't want money, they want white people to stop raping their land
I mean
you do realise how many companies are doing just that?
despite solar being the most wasteful non-fossil fuel energy production out there
Hence my proposal
What if
You mine it through tunnels. So they can't see it and complain
and don't even get me started on the Aussie "biomass" wank
we stopped burning wood for a reason
I seriously doubt they'd do that but you know it's worth proposing
Why Nuclear is bad tho
French got like. 50?
We have this issue in Canada. The federal government bought fishing boats and licenses for the native bands in order for them to participate in the commercial fishery and you know what they did? They turned around and leased the same licenses back out to commercial fishermen and didn't want to work them.
building and maintenance is pretty intensive
but that's about it
It's not bad
It's just unnecessary in Australia
no

I mean, it makes sense
We have more than enough alternatives
But you can say that they made that choice
I mean literally burning biomass for energy to maintain a base load on the grid
It's not being forced upon them
because solar and wind can't fucking do that
I've never heard of such a thing
Yeah they did make the choice but like part of the entire point was to lift people out of poverty by giving them jobs
not bringing money to the band chief through leasing and keeping the band members itself poor
Several types of renewable energy exist: solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, tidal, and bioenergy.
which is what happened to an unfortunate amount of groups
trying to capture as much of the emmissions as possible
but in the end you're still burning wood or plant based biomass
which means you're literally re-releasing the absorbed CO2

"burning waste" almost inevitably ends into intensive farming to create biomass to make up for solar and wind being shit at providing baseline
at which point just cut the shit and go to nuclear instead because it's legitimately less intensive
and you just put the CO2 you captured while growing the biomass back into the atmosphere unless you have some really extensive CO2 capture process
since even today CO2 capture is in its infancy
only now are scientific papers getting published and those will be put into practice in ~40 years
so yea
But it would be too deep in Australian politics

it's labeled as renewable for [redacted] expediency reasons
It's been labelled as renewable because the LNP is trying to pretend it has a net zero plan
Fun fact it doesnt
the real big brain move australia could do here is to invest in CaO-based CO2 capture technology to combine with their "solar plans" and make a sustainable solar energy based loop
just saying
but that takes money they'd rather spend on chinese solar panels

solar is pretty good for the sunniest continent
And wind is nice too for a very windy continent
but it has no base load
How about really big batteries
so your grid will be fucking dead
they will have base load near the coasts if they are willing to invest massively into wind
Hydroelectric?
but that's only at some places near the coast
alright so you take the old non nuclear australian subs and hook their batteries up to the power grid
it's a win win
this will work guys
australia I don't think has very many wind patterns like europe

Perth is the world's 3rd windiest city
Buy nuke subs and then just park them offshore to power towns
lexington class moment
And South Australia is heavy on wind power already
I assume it's too hot for big water batteries
guys we should paint all exposed asphalt in the world white
that will literally lower the earth's temperature by like half a degree

Roofs too
snowball earth achieved
Literally whitewashing global warming
The Snowy Mountains Scheme or Snowy scheme is a hydroelectricity and irrigation complex in south-east Australia. The Scheme consists of sixteen major dams; nine power stations; two pumping stations; and 225 kilometres (140 mi) of tunnels, pipelines and aqueducts that were constructed between 1949 and 1974. The Scheme was completed under the supe...
return to retinal earth
honestly tho
I love how australia not wanting to invest in nuclear power
lead the submarine deal to fail
which made France a meme again
so that people could shit on it online

Is he Corsican?
France needs nuclear power because they don't have the world's best environment for solar
read superpower it's a good book
france does have a great advantage in wind
due to Mistral
aaaah no I'm getting Algerian war flashbacks

but that is a wind of destruction
I'll simp nuclear for Australia when fusion is viable until then we can work without it
see I was being nice because I could've made the obvious white object joke
What about non-uranium reactors
Those are fine too
are we about to have a thorium moment
listen, if australia goes solar
AND invest in H2 electrolysis
now then
then we are talking
AU government says AU has 20% of Earth’s thorium resources
Should note that Australia is one of those nations that is disproportionately suffering the impacts of climate change compared to the amount of carbon we actually output
electrolysis my beloved
So long as it's sourced without impacting indigenous land rights it's fine by me for sure
It’s a matter of figuring out if it’s commercially viable for the available mining sites then
I think I'm honestly going to just laugh when Australia needs to do a crash generator project to stop their grid from needing to black start
Wonder if a feasibility study’s been done
yeah I mean
antarctica as well

what do you mean, soon antarctica will have more living space despite being smaller
now that's a feat
either that or they actually do need to do a black start, after inflicting this on themselves
in which case I'll laugh harder
watch them import french reactor components
The only limit on commercial viability in Australia is the size of individual deposits
"who could have foreseen this entirely predictable outcome!"
Otherwise it's just mining
If we need to build entire ports then that's what we'll do
Done it before
that's not a very viable way of doing things tho
Batteries exist and there's more to renewables than just solar and wind
Oh how wrong you are
mate I've done a course on renewable energy just this semester
Building entire ports to support mining is our speciality
@desert agate lol
tomahawk time

Saw that a few days ago
launching rockets in the ocean...
this will negatively affect the Norse trout population
Just desperately trying to extend the service lives of submarines that currently have no planned replacement date
Keeping subs in service longer than they're designed for is rarely a recipe for success
defence related nonsense
KRI Nanggala (402), also known as Nanggala II, was one of two Cakra-class Type 209/1300 diesel-electric attack submarines of the Indonesian Navy.
Ordered in 1977, Nanggala was launched in 1980 and commissioned in 1981. It conducted intelligence gathering operations in the Indian Ocean and around East Timor and North Kalimantan. It was a partici...
Oops
oh hey I got summoned
we're going to be operating 1980's submarines until the mid 2030's or early 2040's
so join the club
this sounds like the 75mm mle.1897 field cannon all over again
anywho, babe new Denisovan fossils dropped, this time in Laos

chemical engineering -> jurassic park
Men
it's interesting because Denisovans are never indicated to live this far south in the SEA
there was more oxygen back then
this is but the first step
yet here it is, an evidence that they do spread that far from assumed original range of around Central Asia
boys, if you will
and for @desert agate, Denisovans are suspected of interbreeding heavily with Aboriginal Australians
There's a lot of theories about aboriginal Australian genetic heritage and stuff
it wouldn't be surprising if Aborigines had extensive contact with Denisovans given so far they seem to be fairy widespread throughout Asia, sort of like how Neanderthals are very common in Europe, only Denisovans are rather poorly known
also for Dino fans, new Spinosaurid from Spain
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/08912963.2022.2069019?journalCode=ghbi20
lmao
I was waiting to see if this would come up
the good old batteries canard
batteries
well, I say 'new' more like they found out a certain fossil is actually a different genus
are shit at storing power
which is what tends to happen when a new dinosaurs genus is announced
it's usually just old bones reexamined and paleontologists finding it it's actually not that similar from other specimens, enough to be warranted as a separate animal
Also nighttime solar
Kinetic energy storage
There's enough battery powder to hold load for for example in, California, for a few minutes.
Early stages development but potentially excellent
including the car batteries
that whole thing is so fucking stupid
Batteries literally saved South Australia
like I said just use the old subs past their lifecycle batteries
Like they had the worst power outages in national history
We installed batteries with a new system connected to other renewable and their power issues were solved
Statewide blackouts for over a million people for days on end is a bit of an outage
it's turning off the power for an area because if you don't your grid fucking dies because you fucked your base load
you're lauding a solution to a problem of your own making
you're Texas power gridding yourselves, but with renewables instead of uninsulated gas lines lmao
but the batteries objectively solved the issues with South Australia's power grid
You need a physical way of storing that power
Either as gas
Or as a liquid
Solids work too but are not yet viable
I'm no fan of musk but those batteries saved lives
because you fucked up in the first place
Thank god you’re not elon musk
if you were elon I'd legally have to insult you
oh
Was a number of fuck ups that contributed
And the coal stations were in no way absolved
and I haven't even touched on how excess power generation will fuck your grid as well
and btw
batteries are even worse at it
lmao
that's not how energy exporting works
energy exporting is pre-accounted for
spikes in generation that aren't accounted for can't just be dumped into wires to someone else
wind turbines can be turned off
And solar panels can be disconnected from the grid
There are ways and means around it
yes, they can be
if you schedule for it
because idk if you know this but
electricity moves really fast

The public here is ridiculously anti nuclear anyway
The talk around building the second submarine base for the nuclear subs on the east coast has caused huge uproar
as I said before
I'm personally in favour of thorium or fusion reactors provided the thorium is mined ethically
Fat luck convincing the public tho
Fusion
The batteries installed in South Australia responded to fluctuations in the grid faster than the traditional coal plants
And they did, as much as you pretend they didn't, prevent any further catastrophe like that which was caused in 2016
Which was, yes, caused by shoddy practices in the wind turbine generators and the people running them
lmao
But was compounded by years of shitty policy and running of the coal plants
complaining about the cost of nuclear but stanning for Thorium
you have in the past
My issue is where the uranium is
Thorium reactors still need uranium btw
Ok and I've changed my position on thorium some time ago
We'd probably have to import that anyway
Or make huge infrastructure investments which are a good idea anyway
The enriched uranium for the nuke subs is coming from overseas
Because the facilities don't exist here to enrich shit
Thorium waste is just as bad/good/whatever as Uranium waste as well, but no one likes to talk about that, because leaving out that you can make U waste as inert doesn't sell the nuclear fear well enough
not talking about waste
so you literally only care because you don't think Uranium mining can or should be done
Talking about the ethics of the mines the fissile material comes out of
then piss right off lmao
sound argument there
but that doesn't fit the narrative thats let's em act like a smug asshole
You're the one that came out about waste and cost, which I wasn't discussing in the first place
Any large scale domestic nuclear industry is going to require domestic mining of fissile material, whether that material is thorium or uranium. Thorium is much more ethically sound than uranium and therefore is the better option, should we ever decide to go nuclear, whatever uranium is require in those thorium reactors can be obtained either by import or by smaller scale mining operations mines that wouldn't normally be viable but won't impact indigenous land title (something which is protected by high court judgements in Mabo v Queensland)
If Australia intends to support its naesant nuclear submarine fleet beyond a single class, domestic nuclear industry is going to be necessary regardles
you can very cheaply ship the fuel from abroad
keeping it running is not expensive in terms of fuel
Not politically viable
The mining industry wouldn't allow it
They would lobby so hard it would make Rupert Murdoch look like a paper boy
yeah thats the thing I found looking up nuclear power
well yes in terms of scale it would be able to replace a fossil fuel planet it has a pretty high cost esspically for a country that doesnt have a domestic source of nuclear fuel
did you account for the undue burden placed specifically on nuclear
yeah a decent portion of people i've talked to act like nuclear is the magic solution
but I think the way to fully replace fossil fuels is a slow mix of many sources

to a extent yes but there are issues I dont think we can get into here with removing the fossil fuel dependence of my country of america (cant say anything about any other countries)
well it's a huge part of american industry and geopolitical influence rn
and any loss in the car industry is gonna be put in the chemical industry
so for atleast another 50 years it isn't going to change that much
Not what I meant
Nuclear's cost is massively inflated due to regulations that even coal and other industries that produce concentrated nuclear waste in such quantities they can chase dam breakage floods never had to worry about
They're straight up designed to strangle nuclear as much as possible
the same sort of regulations those other plants have to worry about, with much higher standards
as well as fossil-fuel based industry funding other non-nuclear renewable energy producers like wind and solar just to prevent the nuclear option
it's because they know they will get outcompeted
the oil industry wants people to believe in the solar and wind story
since then they know they can easily compete
hence why in any country that has common sense will do additional power generation in conjunction with wind and solar
preferably H2-electrification since it allows excess wind and solar during the day to be converted into H2 without wasting money on batteries

I see
Also is it bad that I'm more interested in the history of northern Europe (and British isles) in the middle ages then the United States and the cold war
no?
good lol because I dont even know half of what we did in the cold war
and like did you know after the vietnam war vietnam was kinda at war with china
what you did in the cold war hmm?
well we as in the united states of america (and the air force since I was sorta part of it)
some silly little hijinks here and there

It's either one of the earliest design like Riga or a fake one

A quick guide to Dark Ages Irish Politics and History. I've been having some issues with editing software and the like so this video is a bit more rustic. More on this soon. Thanks for watching!

Here’s a high quality video mashup of all the teasers uploaded onto the Apple TV site for each of Prehistoric Planet’s episodes. They’ll be split into general habitats dinosaurs lived in and include:
Coasts
Deserts
Freshwater
Ice Worlds
Forests

I'll say this again, best thing to happen for dinosaur docu series in 20 years
yesssss
hell naw, not for documentaries
Paleo preps hasn't got any decent to good docus in years now
nothing like Walking with Dinosaurs
the best jurassic world did was canonly acknowledge that they genetically engineered the dinosaurs to be cooler over being accurate
I saw that at the IMAX in my musuem it was pretty good
the one by the bbc
It's not just "additional" per se
It's needing it permanently have a fossil fuel back up capable of supporting the entire grid, which you need to pay for but rarely actually use, solely because of how serious the consequences of not having enough back up for the whole grid is
And as for H2 electrification...
Large scale production that produces more energy than it takes to make uses fossil fuels
Meanwhile electrolysis takes more energy to produce H2 than that H2 will provide
A "hydrogen economy" only makes sense if you are running nuclear powered electrolysis plants, with the H2 serving as merely an intermediate.
It really does all come back to spicy rocks
in my fiction it's mainly obtained from things like tidal power, but it's also nowhere near the scale a modern nation would require is my excuse
whoever did this made a good job replicating the old narrator
for real
I survived the night
Yes, it’s logically a net loss of electricity, especially when considering storing the hydrogen, but it’s leaps and bounds better than just solar
And one if the few alternatives countries have to nuclear
Loss of energy during generation/production is unavoidable, it's just thermodynamics at work
It’s really not as big a deal if your country already has nuclear power
And combined solar/wind/electrification plants are perfect to put on polluted soil during clean up
it isn't a big deal for anything really. You just need to take every sources in the equation if you want fair comparison
Something that is often overlooked is the subsidies
Depending on what country it is in
Those can be the deal maker or breaker
It's just that easy to misled by selectively using numbers sadly
A lot of "green" energy doesn't pass sanity check once you look at total system cost/impact
especially when you don't look beyond the 1st scope of said project
the pollution that comes from the cement or solar panels you use in such a project etc.
a lot of companies simply look at their own project in a vacuum which misleads the public
atleast it's not as bad as "plastic recycling"
went down a rabbit hole of New York Times articles on the F-14
interesting how much its price inflated over the years
1969 they were expecting the platform to cost around 10 million per, by 1975 that inflated to 20 million dollars a plane
https://www.nytimes.com/1975/09/22/archives/price-rise-called-setback-for-f14-prospects-held-weakened-for.html
Recent disclosure by Defense Dept of $2-million increase in price of F-14 fighter seen weakening prospects for future orders by Pentagon and has placed pressure on craft's supports in Cong and USN; aide to Sen Barry Goldwater, staunch F-14 backer, concedes development is 'sharp setback'; controversy surrounding price of F-14 revd (M)
by 1988 the F-14D were going for about 74 million per or about 180 million per
so more expensive adjusted for inflation than a new built F-35A
hell its more expensive than a F-22A going by the 2011 cost for the F-22A
honestly makes me wonder why people fanboy the F-14 as much as they do when trying to compare it to the F-35 or other modern platforms
top gun
It's much easier to fanboy over single supercapable thing than say other thing with better cost benefit ratio
people cared less about cost at the time, just that it was better than anything else
fair tho the aircraft was never really worth its cost
like the F-14A was kinda lackluster performance wise in a lot of ways
and later on the F-14 fleet notably was overshadowed by its competitors
its draw backs during the gulf war did prevent it from really engaging in actual air to air combat in that conflict
suppose it got proper BVR combat in Iran-Iraq but it didn't really have anything really capable of BVR going against it
Here you go peeps, A poem for the Grand old Lady of the royal navy:
You say you have no subject
And your brushes all have dried;
But come to Marazion
At the ebbing of the tide.
And look you out to seaward,
Where my Lady battle scarred
Hugs the rock that is more welcome,
Than the shameful breakers yard.
Paint her there upon the sunset
In her glory and despair,
With the diadem of victory
Still in flower upon her hair.
Let her whisper as she settles
Of her blooding long ago,
In the mist than mingles Jutland
With the might of Scapa Flow.
Let her tell you, too, of Narvik
With its snowy hills, and then
Of Matapan, Salerno
And the shoals of Walcheren;
And finally of Malta,
When along the purple street
Came in trail the Roman Navy
To surrender at her feet.
Of all these honours conscious,
How could she bear to be
Delivered to the spoiler
Or severed from the sea ?
So hasten then and paint her
In the last flush of her pride
On the rocks of Marazion,
At the ebbing of the tide.
-Lieutenant-Commander R.A.B. Mitchell
Holy fuck hurry up and die already
we'll meet Vulcans and form the Federation well before the Queen dies I'm afraid
she'll sit eternally on the Golden Throne
sustained by the collective psyche of the British
What
I'd say involuntarily but she survived the referendum in the 90s
should have gone for the head

Todd, that's just going to inspire another spinoff QE Manga or something
I forgot what the name is, but it's Marie Antoinette getting extremely swole

There it is, thanks jaba
"It is as I always say; if one has no bread, then let them pump iron!"
The Queen roared from the scaffold of the Place de la Révolution.
Forced from Versailles and then marched to the guillotine, Marie Antoinette vented her rage at the mob incited by revolutionary fervor, who were no longer the same people she had once loved.
But, undergoing ...
she destroys the scaffold with her incredible muscles, wielding the very guillotine blade that was to take her head as a weapon!

Most advanced russian navy ship
Least opinionated Italian
Increased splinter damage
controls can't be sabotaged if there's simply no controls
But that's...Belfast
Welp I am fine Belfast being Russian
Least opinionated Italian
I was joking

But Belfast is Dutch
Canarias’ turret?
Why are you posting that
Because it's a momentous occasion.
It's not often you get to see her without the fire.
because i found it on reddit
Need to find a cooler 12cm mount.
Is dis scaling of the guns correct (+ context as to why)

Scaling looks correct?
I keep my scale consistantly 1px=2cm so I don't usually have scaling problems anymore.
Ngl should do that too
Not sure if the scale I work with is that great, since my canvas usually ends up 15k pixels wide (for 300m max length) and all kinds of blueprints are scaled to this res making it excessively large.
Oh i see
You just have to be consistent though
Ill continue these cursed ships tmr cause too lazy now
The final part of the performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture in London 9 May 2012 with live gunfire of HMS Belfast in honour of the Victory Day anniversary and British and Russian veterans - Крейсер "Белфаст" участвует в исполнении увертюры "1812 год" в честь Дня Победы. Лондон, 9 мая 2012

Undef has secret love for Russian ships
But he is acting like tsundere about them
what up lads ive had less than four hours of sleep
my brain is always eviscerated
vae just got me to get up at fuck in the morning for f1 free practice
sounds fun tho
well im excited to see how fucking jank aston martins car is after near 1:1 copying red bull's because their current one sucked absolute dick but without changing the front end at all

I'm not excited

I'm not about to lose control
and I strongly dislike it

No
If it was up to the time itself no content before Soyuz event would be necessary
But with events like this it brings me new equipment and ships to build better fleets
Thus better equipments for Soyuz
i said it before, she's waiting with new mex and the qe refit in that cool DE event coming up

Making her lvl 125, oath and 200 affinity, putting her strongest equipments at +13, putting her special dorm with best xp boosting foods, making her secretary, max limit breaking her
And then putting her into NP fleet
And buying all her skins of course
Then my purpose will be complete. But because we can't desire what we already have, new desire would be her getting an oath skin
im too sleepy so it doesn't register
in all honesty tho, chasing your dreams is good
i can barely feel where my hands are

my lungs hurt
the issue i have with soyuz atm is you can do the funny russian flag hair meme with ruskie backliners but if they put on soyuz i'd have to replace rossiya to keep that going and that physically hurts me
my poor girl, forever cursed to be kind of stinky

and also weirdly similar to littorio despite being closer to MP irl
Well MP is larger Littorio somewhat
it probably helps they werent too far apart in release date

it's like dropping in a T-44-100 when everyone else is dicking around with PzIVs, cromwells and shermans
Her only weakness is AA
Mfs rly gon pit Hood against Scharn 😭😭

The surprise is that this gal is out of the other current ships's league.
Scharnhorst bullying
She deserves it
