The Tortoise heavy assault tank (A39) was a British heavy assault gun design developed during the Second World War, but never put into mass production. It was developed for the task of clearing heavily fortified areas such as the Siegfried Line and as a result favoured armour protection over mobility.

Bunch of Ki-61 airframes left without engines (not that the engines were any good to begin with...) and they needed planes. So they glued on a Kinsei more or less yanked from the D4Y while doing their best to emulate the FW 190's cowling and accessory layout.

#

And unlike about a dozen other attempts at rough transplants, this worked very well.

#

Nose jobs like that rarely work out.

#

It's also telling that all of the JP planes that had a licensed DB601 ended up getting the same nose job, and proved in hindsight how utterly pointless the extremely expensive but failed and somewhat futile effort to produce the 601 in Japan was. The Kinsei 60 series that replaced the licensed 601s started full production in 1940. They never actually needed the V-12s and would have been much better served using the plants to produce more radials.

-How I unleashed WW2 (Comedy about how a Polish soldier believes that he started ww2 and seeks to redeem himself in the eyes of God)
-The 800 (About the Defense of Sihang Warehouse. Note that a lot of events are dramatized)
-Pashendale (About Canada's involvement in ww1 and Pashendale)
-Come and See (A young boy joins the Belarusian partisans and witnesses the horrors of war on the Eastern Front)
-Saving Private Ryan

Shows
-Band of Brothers (I don't think I need to explain this one)
-The long long holiday (The invasion, occupation, and liberation of France from the perspective of french children in the resistance. Its free on Youtube I think)
-Wunderkind Little Amadeus (The only non war show on this list. About the early life of Wolfgang Mozart. Despite being a kids show it has great attention to historical detail. Episodes 1-13 are free on Youtube)

What was the plan if Center force had taken Leyte? The American fast carriers were literally right there after destroying Southern force. Wouldn’t Center Force have been immediately set upon by hundreds of bombers?

#

They would’ve delayed the capture of Leyte for maybe a day at most, but their Battleships would’ve been forced to remain near Leyte to prevent it from being recaptured making them easy pickings for the carriers.

#

Also, couldn’t northern force had launched a single cruiser based seaplane up the Surigao strait and spotted the enormous wall of Battleships before they entered their range?

I can’t imagine a world where Japan isn’t defeated at Leyte baring a total miracle at the Battle of Cape Engano.

Because it has been both heavily under and overrated at different points in time from before WWII to today.
