To be honest Veneto does look concept design. Yet it's produced
Who tf doesnt want an irl hot wheels tho
just in very few numbers, understandably
Especially if renewable power grids end up having to do what we expect they'll need to do
And have an entire shadow grid
That can pick up the slack when the weather isn't cooperating
they're really childish designs in a very charming way
EV Challenger is fucking cursed
28 tonnes of batteries
There are speaks of Electric armor. Can you combine them?,
Since if they work. They should replace ERAs
if you're thinking of the stuff i think you are that's generally very low voltage
at least the dude-issued stuff
Electric armour or electromagnetic armour is a type of reactive armour proposed for the protection of ships and armoured fighting vehicles from shaped charge and possibly kinetic weapons using a strong electric current, complementing or replacing conventional explosive reacting armour (ERA).
This
That is like
"A key advantage of electric armour is its lighter weight. Whereas ERA (explosive reacting armour) can add 10 to 20 tons of weight to a tank in explosives, electric armour could be effective with as little as a few tons of weight"
ohhh
Peak physicists vs engineers
i was thinking of the weird russian infantry-ERA they put in a patent for a couple years ago
Could it technically work

where it's super tiny charges set off by electromagnetics
China, US, British are developing it it seems
21 cubic meters of volume to boot!
"we did it Patrick, we saved the city soldier!"
Soldier is currently bleeding out from frag to the bottom of head and neck

Like
Idk how fucking dumb its gonna look
But how big of a battery would be needed for a Bradley
Guess we need better and smaller generators
"The invention relates to the field of military and civilian technology and is intended to protect humans and combat robots. Dynamic armor for humans and combat robots consists of composite cells with explosives (9). On the surface of the explosive (9) there is an electrically polarized piezoceramic plate (8), which serves as a source of a high-intensity electric field and is electrically polarized by the impact of a bullet. Provides the ability to reliably protect objects from attacking bullets and fragments without damage to the protected object from a shock wave and other damaging factors of an explosion with the minimum required content of an explosive in the composite cell. 2 wp f-crystals, 2 dwg., 2 tbl."
Dynamic armor for a person and a combat robot with the minimum required content of an explosive in a composite cell is capable of reliably protecting objects from attacking bullets and fragments without damaging the protected object from a shock wave and other damaging factors of an explosion. The specific gravity of the explosive is several times less than that of metals and armor ceramics, therefore, dynamic armor for humans and combat robots is lighter than similar armor using steel, titanium and armor ceramics. For example, the weight of modern human protection devices against a 7.62-mm B-32 armor-piercing bullet using combat ceramics is 50 kg / m 2 . Weight of dynamic armor for a person and a combat robot of the same protection class 25 kg / m 2... Modern ceramic protection of vehicles against damage from a 12.7-mm sniper rifle or machine gun weighs 120 kg / m 2 . The weight of similar dynamic armor is 70 kg / m 2 . The cost of dynamic armor is 4 times less than ceramic."```
the wildest of shit
Soviets designing a concept:
Soviet executing the concept:
solar powered CV
CVS for carrier, solar
Thinking it as whole runway as solar panel
Meh, the "armor" itself might not weigh much, but you still need the energy storage for the charge needed to vaporize the penetrator. Battery isn't known for its high energy density and capacitor is a lot worse than battery, both a lot worse than even explosives.
Electric armor and electric propulsion are nice, but not when you combine both. At least for now
Either electric armor with conventional fuel engine, or electric drivetrain with conventional reactive armor
Leopard 2 capacitors randomly discharging uncontrollably go brrrrr
is there any historical reason why da vinci has a mini kangaroo?
Some HMAS shit I'm missing?
ahh, thanks
Before anyone asks about Roma's skill as well, Yes, Roma had a sonar system fitted on board. Removed 5th June 1943.
Who would not have a sonar on board?
can it charge my samsung a 50 for like 2 hours ?
I have one in my back pocket
VV and Littorio doesn't, if I am interpreting Bagnasco's words correctly.
In which case, makes a lot of sense why VV ate a torp from Urge in her stern.
Even then, Roma's got hers removed, so...
The USSR repeatedly suggested that it believed the Chinese wish to provoke a conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States in the Gulf of Tonkin. A widely-distributed CPSU letter to other parties in February 1966 claimed that the Chinese sought such a conflict "in order to be able to, as they themselves say, 'observe the battle of the tigers while seated on the hill.'" In April 1966, the Soviet leaders circulated a document at the 23rd CPSU Congress which accused the Chinese of trying to force the Soviet Union to ship its military aid by sea and risk a clash with the Seventh Fleet, and thereby to force a Soviet-US showdown.

When you have only 1 Fren
@spring briar Project23Bis. Bis stands for same reason as French word
"Repeat/encore"
So yes. Project23Bis is literally can be called Soyuz flight II, or a bugfix as you can say
Not dramatic but needed changes
Except the 12 gun variant of the bis.
That's the dramatic one
9 gun variant is more humble
Check this beauty out
UP41n't
Longer hull for better speed efficiency, Chapayev gun secondaries instead twin ones, 2 more 100mm Dual purpose guns
And American Style TDS instead Italian
And here
Instead belt having 420, 406, 390, 380, 375mm armor. It's turned to all 380mm
Yup

Here

God Soyuz is so humble. Soviets knew her design had flaws they wanted to change but still kept building because of enthusiasm
Sacrificing herself for her future sisters so they wouldn't carry same mistakes
they scrapped the project in 1949 tho
Because it turned to Project 24
Which also evolved from Soyuz upgrade projects
See K-1000 is interesting.
I think CIA had no idea about Project 24 design for a long long long while. So the rumours K-1000 was created likely the assumption of Sovetsky Soyuz sisters turning to missile battleships
Since CIA didn't had idea about real size and lenght of Soyuz. K-1000 did reached absurd scales
Hell CIA considered Kronshtadt as battleship too. (In a logic it Makes sense)
I
Kronshtadt is a battleship
exactly
bro she is heavier than the american treaty BBs
Her design was around 25k tons. Scharnhorst's appreance fucked her weight up

just because she is using pool noodles as weapons and she has the armor of a wet towel it doesnt make her less of a BB
it's like they were allies or something
but ig operating range counts for smth
Same happened to Soyuz too. Soviets were sticking around 35-45k tons. Then Soviets heard Japan was going +50k ton BB so Soyuz weight gone 60k
So Ansaldo Cruiser killer

Yosh
Marco was also 45k tons right
Which shows Soviet intent on sticking 45k
*Japan and Germany
with the Japan rumours taking a back seat to Germany
Irrc Bismarck was decided to use 380mm guns because of Soyuz class rumours too
Yo Undef
What rumours Veneto designed against
KGV?

the dunks
literally dunkek
Speak of overkill
well they needed a modern battleship
less overkill than dunkek vs deutschland ngl
it's not just a matter of countering a specific ship
especially because Italy was
yknow
Italy
so if they built a middle level BB

building a "full" one to catch up everyone else would be way harder
Bisko was upgunned from 350 to 380mm because of Richelieu
WG lied to me
bad take by germoney
Could've gotten turbo electric Bisko
tho I guess it makes sense. Germans likely had idea about Soyuz until 1941
any idea about the potency of the 350's?
Nope
sigh
Tho purchases of 406mm blueprints should be sus
Could extrapolate, tho then again, could also just use my 355mm estimates
sadge
I don't think extrapolating would work too well
I'd expect them to be more like the 11"

Just slap on four 355mm triples
no
Yes
Fumo 23
@alpine onyx Yo Siren
Kronshtadt would use these if she got the 380mm right
you think they'd give her the radar?
maybe not radar. But rangefinder?
why would they?
just hand them the range tables
if they need help with that they can then ask for help
like
which they did
on multiple occasions
if anything soyuz is an international effort fueled by russian workers
Stalin told him: Buy as many ships as you can (from Germans)...Remember that each ship we buy is one less ships for the Germans and one more for us."

Soviet delegation visited Zeppelin, Scharnhorst, Hipper and even Bismarck
Algerie
"Soviet constructors were surprised by ship's old fashioned underwater protection system"
As you know. Soviets wanted 450mm guns with turrets from France
France was "too busy"
*up to 450mm guns
up to 45cm indeed
just to remind you
the 1938 period in french shipbuidling was probably the bussiest ever

Strasbourg, the carrier, rich and jb, the new destroyer leaders
subs
new planes for the air force and navy
bussi
When German navy was mostly turning down Soviet request in 1920s. V.I Zof, head of naval forces, complained to a German delegation that the Italians had been much more open and responsive to Soviet overtures.
Italy Fren
Hey Weimar is based. First country to recognize Soviet Union
when was that?
16 April 1922 Treaty of Rapallo
After Germany's defeat in the war in 1918, the territory was transformed into a number of new independent states, including Poland. Like Germany, Russia was left diplomatically isolated, as its transition to communist rule had led to the loss of western allies as "the policies pursued by the victors, especially France, left no alternative to Germany but to move closer to Russia"
Not like there was a Treaty that strictly forbid Germany from doing arms exports or any sort of meaningful development

bonjour mon ami
The treaty did result in those uber cute and adorbs 1923s
Not sure man. Army wise Weimar did tested things inside Soviet Union didn't they
To avoid Versailles
that was more so after 1933
But those were kinda illegal
Exactly
the tractor stuff was during weimar iirc
also glider pilot training
germany and russia
Also yeah, took quite some time fpr them to pick up any ambitions
smh
They had some other business to attend to
Soviets wanted "advices" and upgrades on existing designs from them it seems especially for submarines
In 1930. Soviets were allowed to inspect Deutschland under construction
When Hitler came to power this ended for a while
For 8-9 years

Deutschland is too precious
Also there were frequent tours on board the Ks whenever they visited foreign ports
So surely the Soviets got to visit one of those as well
Here is the final trade. Or shopping list of Union let's say.
One fully equipped 381mm turret. Sketches for 406mm triple turret ( Kurfurst pogchamp), working drawings of 28cm turret
In return. Soviets will give 3.4 million tons of foodstuffs and raw materials
by that point they were wanking Algerie and Italian stuff so dunno
it's possible tho
And of course approval was given for Soviets to order sixteen 381mm
At least from the German end there should be no reason for why they wouldn't allow it
kek
If they allow some rando American tourists on board
since 1923 they weren't gonna get anything from britain
france was angry because they abandoned the war
and bc communism
you know
bad memories
Seems Soviets really wanted easy way of "buying a navy"
But market was mostly closed to them
Only Italians and Germans were really open
however from 1935 onward france and the ussr were in a scientific cooperation pact
And Germans scam level open
it was just schneider that wasn't willing to help ig

You know Kearsarge gives me sus so bad. If Soviet Union did order that beast and US somehow finished it in time. I am sure they would yoink it
Hey Siren I was wondering. Why Montana max limit used to be 59k tons?
And how did it passed 59k tons later?
It was likely shipyard issue so they build a larger shipyard?

apparently there were plans to enlarge the #4 dry dock at NY Naval Yard
as well as plans to add a third set of locks to the Panama Canal
Oh the plans got bigger right around the point when war broke out and everyone started disregarding the treaties
Also I guess that upgrade would specially be for Montana class
Since Even Midway was 45k tons
Man sometimes I wonder if Soviets should have converted Kronshtadt and Soyuz to carriers after realizing the armor and turret construction will take way too long
Since for carriers. You don't waste your time on armor and turrets. Weight is also lighter
You just need to convert the planes and add some catapults if possible
Or make a new plane. Which should be much easier
“If any foreign minister begins to defend to the death a "peace conference," you can be sure his government has already placed its orders for new battleships and aeroplanes.”
— Joseph Stalin
Need designation for SU-2 bomb. 100lb FAB? Or something more prosaic like 100lb large radius. Anything besides skipbomb.
Currently closest thing I can think of is FAB-50sv
Let me search more
Wows Chkalov for example. Drops FAB-500 bombs from her SU-2s
FAB-500B for skip bombers
Which is 500kgs
I guess it's Manjuu doing Manjuu things
how many does it carry in wows? 2?
1
oh duh of course. cuz capacity should be around 600kg
6x100lb but it's probably out of hardpoints
Operation Varsity dropped 16.000 men just east of the Rhine in support of the Allied Rhine crossings in March 1945. Although planners had learned from the experiences of previous airborne attacks, the operation resulted in about 3000 casualties and plenty of debate.

You know what i wonder more?
Westland Wyvern dropping 4 torps in AL
I thought she could do only 1
heh the only torp bomber that can carry more than 1 torp is skypirate i think. ryuuseis, barracudas, swordfish, avengers etc should only have 1. torps are heavy
yeah pretty much every TB is buffed in AL
but thats just because torps are way less deadly than irl
And dive bombers in AL are kinda nerfed, especially for late game
then there's Tenrai's gigachad buff
bomb damage calcs are super borked
which is why helldivers were best for a million years
blessed hakuryu taking the uggo bomber away
i will never forgive heckdivers for being better than btds
they're so much cooler and gooder
Destroyer II can carry 2 as i know
While Skypirate 4
I think it’s also done that way
Cause you don’t send only 3/3/2 planes at shit

Either you make them send a bunch of correct planes, or less buffed as hell planes
TU-91 for UR torpedo bomber
Stalin: ok we can build CVS now
Soviets: Starts developing planes for CVS
Khrushchev: Damn this is ugly af
project dies since Khrushchev called it ugly and thinks CVS are American weapons that's only useful for them
but you know something as cool?

Hi phoe
I've been busy with war thunder, finding out about how accurate tanks are
What up
I found out the otswind II didn't exist, neither did the tiger 2 with a bigger gun
Panther II did but not the turret and Pak 88
Forgetting Coelian as well huh
I'm doing the ones that existed in war thunder
The only one out of the deleted German tanks is the maus
I forgot the company that made it
Porsche?
Ye
Porche did it
Porsche*
They were the only ones who did it in the weight that was allowed for a heavy tank
?
Ye
Found it
.... are you sure that's 500mm
So it's not a naval but land gun?
It’s a howitzer
the specialists of the Artillery Scientific Research Institute in 1937 conducted a thorough analysis of the options for railway artillery installations with howitzers of 450. 475 and 500 mm caliber.
From the caliber of 475 mm in the end was refjected. There were two options left - 450 and 500 mm. And although it was believed that the 450-mm howitzer would have the best ballistic characteristics, a 500 mm caliber gun was considered more universal. This view was supported by the fact that the action on concrete for all howitzers was assumed to be the same, but the action on the ground should have been better for a 500-mm howitzer. As a result, she was given preference.
450 mm my beloved

So the whole 500 mm naval gun stuff is pretty much fake

Guess largest naval gun Soviets build will remain 406mm/50
is italy in ww2 really out from axis and join allied?
Yes
1943 ye
Italy declared war on the Allies in 1940 under Mussolini's desire to expand Italian colonial holdings and occupy parts of France and gain hegemony over the Mediterranean
in 1943 the Western Allies launched an invasion of the Italian mainland, and after a significant bombing campaign, the king and the Italian government deposed Mussolini, joining the Allies, with the Northern half of the country becoming a German puppet under Mussolini (until his death) and the South remaining loyal to the government, igniting the Italian civil war which would last until the end of the war in Europe

They did want her to return to Germany, which would've been possible until the British caught up to her and engaged her at River Plate. The second the British identified her the chances of her making a successful return dropped to zero.
Hey, it's interwar, anything goes
Even before the River Plate the Home Fleet would have just intercepted them
There was no French or Norwegian base so they would either have to self sustain themselves or somehow run across the North Sea
Wasn't she literally designed for exactly that tho
The Deutschlands had absurd range, so as long as she would be undetected and unidentified she'd be fine
Yeah
Endurance was their entire thing
Also they did do underway refuelling at several occasions
And I just want to point out, saying that the Home fleet would "just intercept her" implies that they would know exactly when she is where
Because the ocean is large, and the ship is tiny
That the brits would even commit Home Fleet against her wasn't a given anyway
And Spee's track record of using radar to avoid getting intercepted was quite good
Scheer would pull off a successful return to Germany through the Denmark strait one and a half years later, after five months on sea. Spee doing that in late 1939 or early 1940 sounds fairly reasonable, as long as she's not misfortunate enough to run into some cruiser along the way
Ah okay

Yes misour, we must have two turrets for maximaum destruction

another valuable fossil fell to private collection

fossils are always generally below 5 millions even for complete specimens in costs
the outliers are the T.rex Stan which sold for 31 million and this guy

its just fucking bizarre to me that there;s like
a few cars more valuable than even stan
I guess something that's pretty much just a bunch of funny shaped rocks doesn't exactly get sky high prices
plus it's a net negative in the long run since you're paying maintenance for something that's not generating revenue at all
I'm pretty sure that those "military news" channels are autogenerated content

His [Minister for War Messimy's] project to clothe him [the French soldier] in gray-blue or gray-green raised a howl of protest. Army pride was as intransigent about giving up its red trousersas it was adopting heavy guns. Army prestige was at ince felt to be at stake. [...] To banish "all that is colorful, all that gives the soldier his vivid aspect," wrote Echo de Paris, "is contrary both to French taste and military function." [...] a former War Minister, M. Pierre Recobre was a French stretcher-bearer who fought in WWI for its entirety, from August 1914 until the very end of the war in November 1918.
He fought with the 339th Infantry Reg., volunteering for every single operation it was involved in.
His commanders had described him as being “daring to the point of temerity”, risking his life to save the lives of countless wounded, despite himself having been wounded so many times himself, the medical staff lost track.
Recobre had always put the well-being of his comrades above his own safety and beyond his 30 decorations for valor, his mustache was his most prized possession.

too many medals
Armies passed to ribbon focus for a reason
But I still prefer medals
Ribbons look weak
they just kind of look weird when they become cubes like that
don't most medals have both a less formal ribbon and a more formal medal
not all maybe but a lot

🎖️
no offense to actual turtles and tortoises presumably
Wait those are medals?
I've been wondering what those odd stripes on the af uniforms were
just do what i did and make the turtle back as thick as an actual belt

make the turtleback thicker than the main belt for deception
310/210mm deck yeehaw
did i ever show you that weirdo boat richy
Better idea
Adaptable belt with hydraulics
When enemy is at close range. Belt gets into sloped armor
But space would be a big issue

Ok here
What if like
They angle the belt as how you wish it
While holding the whole belt

This was never considered before right?
its
Dont say flexible
janky, but you could probably make it sort of work
Please
Dude how will you move the deck. This is just for belt armor

you'd presumably just use a full length deck and then kind of tuck it underneath when the belt slopes inward
and just have this weird double layer zone
Ye
the biggest issue is making the hydraulics actually like
survive impact
because the shock of shell hits is going to be nightmarish
Maybe can find solutions with firing tests
Hydraulics are kinda good at that
Ye they push hard
Since liquids under pressure and stuff
you know, thats fair
Wait...
Can they also become anti torpedo armor?
Since you already fill the belt with liquid
What if you put hydraulics just near the belt
Warhead explosion now has to push both hydraulics and liquid inside
101 how to die

seems like something that would just constantly break and be expensive additional complexity you don't really need

maka knows whats up
batshit insanity is always worth it in the pursuit of invincibility
precisely
Indeed

Russian Navy Day soon

Soviets didn't cared much about it tho some reason. Maybe because of being Empire tradition
They removed the celebrations in 1980
But after collapse. It came back in 2017
I wonder how caps interact with concrete
While concrete doesn’t really erode caps like cemented steel would, it does knock them off
If thick enough
Shell might actually be more Czech than german

From ballistic test I’ve seen with concrete as thick as the armor added in front of the armor itself, it didn’t really change the penetration much since it kept the AP cap in one piece despite some damage to it
So the AP cap is definitely handy to protect the nose of the shell for an anti concrete shell
But not that necessary if the nose is thick enough either
Yeah, was thinking, for a given weight of shell, is one piece or capped construction better for anti-concrete
Capped is always gonna be better at keeping the shell from getting dragged away from the normal of the armor due to forces acting on the nose
But ig cost is a big factor?
Most anti concrete shells have thick conical noses with large fillers
Basically standard base fuze HE shape in a way
Yeh
Which is why a cap seems questionable for anti-concrete work
They usually aren't constructed the way anti-steel shells are, for presumably good reason
It does seem pretty redundant as long as your shell is sturdy enough and has a thick nose
Hence two versions of the sane shell, one without cap fir standard concrete
The other for more armoured structures like steel bunker turrets

Concrete + steel would give reason to use a cap
Concrete-steel composite armor
Very pog of the Czechs
I’m a fan of at least having the option for a niche shell
As long as it doesn’t fuck with logistics

Soyuz's evolution
Honestly Soviet Union should have build the second one
46k tons. 200k hp engine. 9 406mms
Soyuz going 65k Tons was too much for Industry
Max weight that is
I love how First one just screams Italy
The third one is heinous
Shortest one ye
Type A battleship nyah

It's like how Kuznetsov and Fujian is related
By core let's say

Big ass bow? Check
Low stern for hangar? Check
Low bridge? Check
Big mast? Check
Radar or a device on top of the bridge? Check
Well the designers were just moved to the new project after all

they go boom
Black one is a soviet 305mm solid steel practice round which does not go boom
Two white ones are Swedish 283mm AP shells from Sverige

yeah that's what i said
Soviet 533 mm (21") 53-38
Design started in 1936 after the failure of the 53-36 torpedo. Based on the Italian 533 mm torpedo bought from Fiume in 1932. Main Russian torpedo of World War II.

Wait...
Ah Wargaming is damn smart when they wish to
Of course Soyuz's A hull use the British Type 281 Air Radar

Fcas's future looks grim
France may go for Super Rafael
Currently all Rafaels will be upgraded to F4 model
So instead going for F5 in future. Could go for Super instead
Can add stealth design to make the plane Fifth gen

Yes,the Fujian is related to the Shandong,Which is related to the Liaoning, which itself is a Kiev class
No
Liaoning is Varyag
Who is sister of Kuznetsov
She is Kuznetsov class
😭 Historical error on my part
three thousand years dungeon
anyways now to break the China posting bubble, have the issues with their new rifle
ah, the keyholing at 10ft
jokes aside
it's because there's a wall right behind it
the holes seem to indicate that they went into the paper that way though
not bc they ricocheted off the wall and went back in
from the discussion sent to me regarding it
it generally does seem to be keyholing it since the target does not seem to be striking it from the otherside
issues probably perfectly fixable
so it will probably be resolved eventually just thought it was interesting how a blatant issue is being shared in propaganda
the Bismarck class was sometimes referred to a super battleship due to its reputation for being very well protected
ig you could call it a super dreadnought
But you'd fall into the slippery slope of calling Bismarck merely a modernized Bayern.
Which is not the case.
yeah that would imply she was modern
a modern bayern in that she's a bayern, but in the modern age

I think J-35 has larger wings now. Better for carriers

#OTD 105 years ago, the third battle of Ypres, also known as the battle of Passchendaele, began. Australian infantry involvement began on 20 September 1917 at battle of Menin Road. In eight weeks of fighting Australian forces incurred 38,000 casualties. https://t.co/FFrZ2O6MWY

95th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army
But why navy pic, should be tanks or something, they held a march at that square which totally nothing happened at
Because ships are better
Fact

That carrier is older than most of the mfs here
Like Most Nimitz sisters yes
Youngest Nimitz is George Bush
Launched in 2006
Should serve till 2046
Ohh I get it
2045 plan of America speaks of 12 Carriers
10 Ford is planned however
So that 2 other carrier could be Ronal Reagen and Bush
But the problem is they will already be 40 years old till that time
Hmm
Damn I didn't realized
Nimitz is 50 years old
She is the oldest Carrier in service
Oh yeah gotta be. Nimitz class life span is 50 years
Two last Nimitz will retire in 2050s
Keep in mind, PLA = the entire armed forces
