That’s not a poor choice at all. There are a good few rare and elite ships on my “possibly want to oath list”. In fact one of the first ships I added to that list was Hyuuga, a Rare BB that turns into an Elite BBV after her retrofit, but all in all is not exactly very good. Oathing ships in the game does add a small stat boost, but unless you are insanely minmaxing, the common charged idea is to oath who you want to oath, not determined by how busted a ship is.
Unless you just don’t like the ship at all anymore, there is no reason to scrap an oathed ship. Do you hate that ship now or something?

Again you can probably scrap the ship, but that’s wasting a whole oath ring and however much time you spent leveling that ship. For what, one medal? That’s not worth it at all.
