Raising your Commander Level raises up how high a level your canteen can be.

So def just play normally and let your commander level increase.

But just so you're not surprised... there is never enough oil.

The only things you need spend gems on as a new player are... 1) Dorm Slots, Dorm Expansion, and Tactical Class Expansion.

Dorm Slots let you passively level your ships while you're not playing and while you're playing... so having 5 of those bad boys almost feels like a no brainer.

Class Expansion is so you can level 3 skills at a time instead of two... seems like a minor thing, but it makes a huge difference in the long run.

Dorm Expansion is important since at Max Expansion, you can get the 2nd floor which lets you rest up to 5 more ships...

The stuff we mentioned previously are kinda like one time things... so once you're done, your main spending will be Skins, Exclusive Furniture, and Dock Expansion.

Skins are obviously because you like a skin... and the game has a very... hard time... when it comes to getting Gems naturally after you're doing story mode stuff... so if you like skins you'd most likely find yourself buying the gems anyways.

Dock Expansion is important but kinda cosly... 200 gems per 10 slots is a little expensive, but once you start hitting like... 250 slots+ you'll notice a huge difference... and if you're going the collector route you'll naturally start seeing yourself going to 500+ slots.

Exclusive Furniture is relatively cheap, but rarely bought... it's just fun stuff sometimes, haha.

Oh and something about Dorm... only the 1st floor lets you passively level up your ships... but both floors let you rest up your ships and boos their moods.

It's a lot to take in, haha.
