There are usually easily accessible alternatives to rainbow gear that are almost as good, but ultimately rainbow gear is usually good

or logarithmic isn't really accurate just decreasing returns to scale at a point

Gems in Azur Lane are fairly rare from an F2P perspective. However, the gacha in Azur lane does not require gems and their main usage is expansion of facilities like dorm, academy, docks and depot, as well as buying resources, resource packs, premium items (rings and name change), and skins.

As an F2P, you can get up to 4700 guaranteed gems (3750 for 3* clearing all 15 main campaign worlds, 800 for completing Bands collection and 150 for 8 days login campaign), not counting random gems from commissions or occasional bonuses from events or other sources.

Considering limited availability of gems for F2P players, even if spent exclusively on QoL upgrades, it is impossible to upgrade everything.

This is the recommended way to spend gems as an F2P:

• 3rd Dorm slot (300 gems)
• Dorm 2nd floor (500 gems)
• Dock space (remaining gems)

The main purpose of the dorm is for faster morale regen while grinding. Using ships with 0 morale will receive a 50% exp penalty and lose affinity.

The 2nd floor of the dorm will have the same number of slots as the 1st floor. While it lacks passive exp gain, it has faster morale regen. 3 dorm slots with the 2nd floor gives you a total of 6 slots, which is enough for your whole mob fleet.

Dock space is the biggest constraint for players. While this can help casual players collect all their waifus, there is also practical use in collecting ships - for later levelling to get their fleet tech on reaching lvl 120. These are important for players as they provide crucial additional stats that help players to tackle the hardest content (W14/15, H.Arbiters, CM).

Alternatively, players may consider getting the 3rd Academy slot for faster skill training or more dorm slots instead of just dock space (not recommended).

While players may opt to buy skins/rings with the F2P gems, this will come at the cost of QoL. It is recommended to only buy those with real money 💳.

Immediate flaws that I've noticed

• Musashi's equipment:
  • Triple 460 is extremely slow, which is not something that you want when you need DPS
  • Her secondary gun has way higher priority on DD main gun slots than BB Secondary slots
• Perseus is inherrently scuffed by her +90% longer reload time, which essentially nukes any form of output the longer fights drag on, which W14 is where that starts to happen. She's essentially a deadweight there
• Musashi's ability to tank damage for the team can bite her if she isnt healed often enough, which isnt helped by Perseus's long reload time
• And surely you have better planes than Barracudas and Hellcats.... if that really is the best you have, consider farming Operation Siren for a good few months before trying W14 aain
• Both fleets also dont really look to have high DPS vanguards, especially for the boss fleet when you should ideally get to the boss as fast as possible to minimize damage taken prior to it

Yesterday, I couldn't reply, and since this ping is all I have left, I'm adding my final words to the discussion. First, it's worth noting something interesting. Namely, how long it takes to obtain individual rainbow equipment, and how relatively easy it is to obtain a UR ship. Even upgrading it isn't very time-consuming or difficult. I managed to max out Shinano very quickly without any problems. I have no trouble obtaining these rainbow bulins. So, paradoxically, the rule you are writing about seems to me to be the opposite. Because what is a single piece of equipment in relation to the entire ship? Nothing, really. And yet, in the current event, I am very close to obtaining my FOURTH UR ship. So if the developers had time scaling in mind, they have failed in their mission almost entirely.

That's all I have to say on that. Now, let me explain one of the main reasons why I generally considered rainbow weapons to be, after all, better than the rest: https://azurlaneecgc.com/equipment/.

We have this website, which I think is not stupid. And although there is indeed a lot of gold equipment here on a par with rainbow equipment, rainbow equipment is at the top of quite a few tables. Often with the note "best in its class". The battleship table in particular is dominated by them. So, I think it just depends on what you expect. I think I've been misunderstood a bit. Because while it's true that Ryuusei Kai, for example, may not be too far behind Tenrai, etc., that's not what I meant. I simply want to M A X I M I S E combat potential. And that's why I prefer rainbow gear over gold, for example. Because while a purple 406mm gun from New Jersey may not be far behind a rainbow one, the rainbow one has at least 10% more power or it's even better (more than 10%). And I think that if someone wants to have everything maxed out, it's worth striving for these weapons. And indeed, a Ryuusei Kai may be powerful, but is it better than a Tenrai?

On the website I sent you, in some tables there is more gold equipment at the top than rainbow equipment. Still, if you read into it, it usually says that rainbow weapons are the best for many tasks anyway.

So it's all quite strange, and that's why I'm drawing these conclusions. As for the price of all this equipment, I think it could be easily fixed. Just cut the price from 60 prototype sketches to 30.
