Scenario 1: you use whatever you gets your hands on. Either they're SSR but you can't limit break them, or they're really lackluster and you can't progress really far without renewing regularly. Both situations makes you spend a lot of ressources and won't be useful once you get the actual meta

Scenario 2: you get Unicorn and the other "Newbie meta" ships. They're all elite or rare and easy to get, maybe 1 SSR but since it's only 1 you can easily mlb. They are also guaranteed to carry you to early mid-game. Bonus point: Unicorn in particularly will carry you forever and ever

There are some things based on historical and fictional ideas.

Example: Japanese ships often have high torpedo stat and low AA
US has more fire power and AA
Royal Navy has ASW and skills
French have special skill mechanics and high speed
Italians have anti torpedo things
Germans have high health
USSR has everything

These are overgeneralised and there are also ships that break faction logic.

I've been playing this game on and off for like 5 years or so, I began playing just before the 2nd anniversary, but I always end up burned out trying to burn off all the excess oil I have. I finally managed to take it back into the 6k area, I'm just lvl 60 so the cap is about 6800, but I've had it up to like 20k plus permanently for years, which is what made the idea of playing a little daunting, as every time I tried I only ended up drowning in more oil. Eitherway I've finally managed to take it back to a reasonable level.

With the backstory out of the way I feel like I have a long backlog of stuff to do, so the question is what should I do first?

I have dozens of ship girls falling behind, think like lvl 1 - 10, (eg girls from the Atelier Ryza colab, Katsuragi, etc) from the times I've popped out, built some shipgirls and left.
