for gold usually 12-4 since it has better ratio and low difficulty, no maxed ships unless u really need the support from unicorn or perseus or some other healer.
but mostly we do 12-1 cause the cognition chips ratio there is better and coins just happen to build up while doing that.
12-1 is much easier than 12-4 specially the boss fight
