It is a decent use of gems if you actually pulled out the credit card to get some gems.

For a f2p person, there are better things to spend the gems on. If you have spent some cash, a bigger dorm means you can keep more girls in the dorm, which means it's a lot easier to farm intensively without ruining your morale. But it's up to you whether you care more about leveling fast, or about getting an awesome skin for your secretary, etc.

my noobie prelim is rumey looks great but less general use perhaps. she shud be super strong vs med/light and has excellent AA support, best w15 support cv also (tho that may be a waste)

z52 is aa carry (lower end) very tanky (on par with felix) and spammy hybrid boat with some support buff stuffs and excellent self-sustain thru multiple fights + minor healing for other ships too

both shud be amazing ships according to sam
