this is kind of subjective based on how much you need exactly out of a given ship, if you're on W13 then one ship with strong AA can take you far, whereas on W15 you want multiple.
and also there's more to it than the stat, for main fleet it tends to be a bit less about their AA contribution and more about the damage reduction they get from plane crashes, so the raw stat is a good indicator, whereas vanguards often have more to them than just stats like ghost AA guns, very different weapon efficiencies and buffing other ship's AA, and they tend to be the ones that actually pull most of the weight in shooting down planes

Is Saratoga just naturally slow with her airstrikes?
I'm currently on Hellcat and Helldivers for her gear and her reload is nearly maxed out but it takes her so long to actually get her first airstrike in. I'd usually need a heavy mob fleet to use her attack at least once. Granted, her damage is actually really high, but it feels like an overall loss if she isn't able to use her airstrikes asap

I honestly don't really know much about other ships due to my history with the game but it does suck when she has an augment to buff allies but it takes her a long while to get her stuff going.
My main comparison atm is with Unicorn, but I think Unicorn's just naturally fast and her damage output is lower in exchange for having more consistent uptime.
I was recommended to use them together when I asked for advice around two weeks ago or so, it just feels off when I need to wait for like 3 "waves" of enemies before I can start nuking with Saratoga
