As part of the #1272987251101667389, a specific thing to discuss

We currently have #art-and-photography, #artists-feedback, and #miscellaneous-images

How would you all feel about a forum structured something like this:
Art and photography

  • Pinned: WIP
  • Pinned: Miscellaneous images
  • Users create own posts for things they actively want feedback on

So the two pinned ones would be more spammy, for random images, or for wip posts, whereas for full art pieces you want more feedback on you can create a post (or if you want to have a space to keep your progress on a piece of art in one post?)
Would you like this/hate this?
Any suggestions yourself?

Alternatively: Just move them out of the Inn to a "Gallery" channel group. Inn is bloated.
I also don't see the forum option to be viable. Your average discord user checks out channels only, the use of threads or forums is much lower in my experience, unless there is an active incentive to use them.

I'm pretty sure if those channels would be moved to a forum a great portion of the active userbase would go "Why kill art channel? Give it back!", since it's an extra few clicks to get to their desired channel, so most would be too lazy to actually check where it went.

Lastly, if people can make new posts, the forum will be bloated, and less people will engage. Case and point: The discord suggestions forum (and the mods supposed ignorance of it).

Once you've opened a post in a forum it stays unhidden. So it's an extra click once in exchange for clarity (and you could always link to it from the old channel(s))

I think it's in our benefit to try and reduce our channels greatly. Doesn't neccesarily have to be on these, but it does need to happen as our channel:activity ratio is out of whack, making people get lost and the activity too spread out making it seem dead to others

#

But yes, a category seperately is an optionif that's what people think would be best

#

The suggestions forum has been dead because the mod team has been kinda dead, we're working on it.
The forums can be really nice (and a lot better than threads imo)

Threads are for temporary stuff.
The problem with forums, once again, is bloat.
In a channel, you once post your thing, people will react to it, next guy comes over, repeat.
In a forum you make a new post, 1-2 peole will check it out, maybe even comment, then it's there for eternity, taking up space and increasing avenues the mods need to moderate (because what will stop timmy from finding a dead post and starting to harass the OP? in a channel it would be noticed faster).

If you wanna reduce the amount of channels then just merge misc images with art and photography. High chance people will tell if what they posted is theirs or not, artists do be like that.
People can also tag their creations from that merged channel in artist feedback, asking for feedback there.

old forums will get down lower so no I don't really think it bloats

ye i think merging visual arts channels together is a good idea. Or even adding music to it as well, just to put it somewhere

I feel like if anything, merge feedback and art-and-photography
They're kinda active, but not that active that they should suffer from being merged; and they fit together more

Last I looked into #miscellaneous-images, it was mostly AI images being posted with little context, and one guy spam-complaining about the AI images. Even ebfore that, it was mostly random photoshopped high contrast landscapes, and a lot of those.
For that to drown out feedback to actual art (which I am pretty sure is what would happen) would be annoying.

Although ofc merging channels always has the problem of deleting old stuff, so it should always be done with a bit of warning in advance

Definitely don't turn it into a forum; that'd suck.

Y'all are weird forum haters xD

cuz I've never seen them work, and the whole structure is user unfriendly compared to just simple, VISIBLE channels.

Forums aren't invisible

I think it's just something ppl aren't used to and that's fair enough

I like forums for specific cases where they work
For example "long form" feedback channels, like the one in the Library, where people could easily talk about a single submission for weeks, theoretically
Or bug reports (in game/mod servers)
But not for this, where people just post images, and most of them get emoji reactions at best
