#Tales of Zaterre

I like it so far. I can't wait for chapter 2.
I finished the prologue. It was good. Some editing required but it was fun to read.
Why thank you, yeah this is basically a first draft of making the story so it'll need some work here in there for the whole product to be finished
I like that Matthias started out as the typical incompetent Prince but then became an actually competent person. Although I would love to see him still struggle with that because as it is, it feels like they are two different characters because we saw no link between them other than the name and the events of the prologue being mentioned later. But overall I liked it, I especially liked that there were gambesons, they don’t get enough love in fantasy.
yee gambesons are underloved in fantasy
So much.
But we'll see more of Matthias' past as the story goes. I wanted to do a character who had his whole character arc in the background
I think it's usualy beat to pick one specific flaw that the character struggles with. That flaw can lead to other flaws though. Like daylens pride leading him to angry outbursts and self denial in shadow of the conquerer. Or vins mistrust of others keeping her distant from those around her turning into naivety that almost got her killed when fighting Zane. I could list other examples but I think the point is made. No flaw works alone it's like a Crack in the character that leads to little cracks forming from its widening. The character we have here seems to be someone with maybe less cracks. I'll have more to say as I read further.
Yessir
I'm curious to see what people make of Matthias and Anrie going forward, how they perceive them as we go further in to the story
It'll be fun
Anrie seems like the kind of person who is way too casual. In my setting, you’d probably be executed for breaking into your liege’s room at night, but I mean if he doesn’t have an issue, I guess it’s fine
Hehe...
TVP Update:
I've currently finished chapters 3 and I'm finishing up chapter 4. I'll review them, fix up things and place on the Google Doc
Cool
Well then, I revised chapter 3. Onto chapter 4 now
Yay!
Chapters 3 and 4 uploaded
I love the madlad Dwarf so far.
heh
I don't think that he should have chemicals though. However, I want to see his hijinks now.
Yeah well, the adventure has begun. We'll see his hijinks
Yay!
@obtuse vault I hope you like the new chapters when you get to read them
Interesting. I like how Elizabeth is so very clearly unprepared for any sort of travel. And how she gets called out on it but is just like "no I'm right".
My favorite is housing the guests, but the town is generous.
We got new characters introduced here. Sophia and her daughter, Braill, Elizabeth, Wei, and Clawridge.
Sophia is a my favorite.
Chapter 5 is halfway done. I plan on releasing chapters on the Google doc two at a time if I can
Well, chapter 5 is done, now to chapter 6

Maid dress scene is funny.
Maid dress scene? The prologue or the breakfast one?
Ah when the maids are not dressed for travel
Yep
Maids begging for mercy is hilarious.
I mean you would do that if a mage was angry at you
Depends, that Dwarf is toe to toe at times.
True enough
@obtuse vault I would love to see what you think about rge most recent chapters
I have been quite busy as of late, I think I’ll have time to read them later today
Coolio
Nice. May I ask what you mean when you say “low guard” is it like pflug, alber or one of the other guards I can think of but don’t remember the names?
The basic low guard, sword pointed forward
You know, the typical guard for fantasy and historical fiction actors who don't know how to handle a sword
This kind of guard
Ah, Long Point. I forgot the German name for it. Very good guard actually. Pretty versatile. Allows for many different attacks while being defensive
Aye
Cool
Working on the next chapter. Got some 700ish words done in an hour long session
Nice
That's good.
Yeah
Will edit the chapter further then upload it

Cool
Let me know what you guys think when you get a chance to read it
One, he likes hanging people.
Let me upload this lower because it will get bogged down as we keep talking in this thread

One group in my story kills and burns bandits.
I mean, bandits are a pest in medieval societies
Disguised ambush
Also the Goroi is a uber minotaur from the first Disney Narnia movie.
That's the only thing to describe it.
I'm thinking on ditching the chapter names so I don't feel restricted as having to follow a specific thing for the chapter
Right now whenever I make a chapter I feel like I have to come up with a good name
Do it.
New chapter uploaded.

Made good progress yesterday. The chapter is at over 1.3k words so far

And all done!
New chapter is up
Sad
Very sad
Yeah, I guess you met the villains
Yea, they are the stuff from Elder Scrolls.
Oh buddy, they're worse...
Working on a new chapter. I finished writing it and am in the process of editing it
New chapter
Marriage one is funny.
What do you mean?
His betroth was an awful one.
Ah
Well, time to edit
@obtuse vault I believe there are some interactions in the most recent chapters that you would like. And moments of course...
I’ve been busy, I’ll catch up as soon as I get a chance
Coolio
New chapter (the 11th) done.
Working on a world building doc written as if in-universe scholars wrote it. It will be a fun thing for later.
Don't know why I disappeared for twelve days without writing
Mostly did some world building on the side and got stuck on playing CK3 for three days nonstop. Anyways I'm back at it for chapter 12 (what a coincidence)
Yay

Well, time to edit chapter 13
This one was a bit difficult to start writing but I managed
Next chapter should be fun
And Chapter 13 is complete
Chapter 14 is complete
Chapter 15 is complete guys
