#PC wont post after warm boot (restart/wake from sleep) when 2 rams sticks installed

Hi guys,

I'm experiencing a persistent issue where the system fails to POST on warm boot when DIMM slot B2 is populated, even with QVL- supported Corsair DDR5-6400 memory. I've updated the BIOS, reset CMOS, reseated the CPU, tested at JEDEC speeds (DDR5-5600), and confirmed the CPU socket is clean with no bent pins. The issue is reproducible and not related to memory speed or instability. The board is a ROG Strix Z790-F Gaming WiFi.
I have 2 sticks in A2 B2, brand new ram kit, issue was also present when I had my old ram (same ram just 5600mhz).

I've tried all xmp profiles, set to auto, no difference at all. No overclock anywhere on system and can fully replicate the crash (not bsod) when I log into desktop, open a program then restart. Pc will power down then restart, the rgb on pc will light up, and DRAM LED will stay solid orange/yellow until i hard reset. Then it will power on with no issue. Only seems to be when restart or wake from sleep. And 2 sticks.
Memtest comes back all clear on single sticks and double.
Pc also won't post at all when DIMM A1 B1 is in use

as for the system not posting with A1/B1 populated, some motherboards won't let you unless it's in the optimal slots

#

given the motherboard i'm guessing you have a 13th/14th gen CPU?

so just to be clear the only issue occurring is restarting the PC makes it hang on the DRAM light and not actually boot?

#

or are there other symptoms

#

also, how long has it been happening? since you got the PC or did it start occurring after a while

#

i know you mentioned you've done a bios update but there was one released a few days ago https://rog.asus.com/uk/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-z790-f-gaming-wifi-model/helpdesk_bios/

Also the old BSOD was due to bent pins on cpu which have since been replaced and very rare bsod now

#

do you have the crash dump files for the BSODs?

ivory cipher
#

I've not had a bsod in months mate, with this current issue of crashing/permanently hanging on warm boot, there is no bsod, just black screen

#

ahh ok

have you tried a fresh windows install?

#

might be down to corruption

ivory cipher
#

I have mate. Done few fresh installs over the last 2yrs. Then couple nights ago, downloaded the windows repair install tool

when you had the bent pins with the CPU did you replace the CPU?

#

also i recommend disabling fast boot in BIOS & windows

ivory cipher
#

Yeah the cpu was replaced and the mobo was replaced too. Mobo was originally z690-f i think, now 790
Cpu stayed the same but was swapped out to rule out that being cause

Will disable fast boot when home but didnt consider that as cold boot works fine every time (some hang time when Q-Led is cycling stages, it'll stick orange for 5-10 seconds then post

#

you should also consider doing a minimal config - remove all non-essential USBs & internal drives to see if the issues persist

ivory cipher
#

Will give that a go too mate. Handy thing is its easy and quick to replicate the issue

ivory cipher
#

Done another fresh OS install, went to replicate the fault, all other USB plugged out except KB&M

Restart then all goes black before lighting up and staying like this
Solid orange light on mobo

Do appreciate the help anyway mate. No idea what step to go for now 🤦‍♂️ could be a case of replacing mobo

yeah seems to be the only thing that could be causing it
