#PC Crashes when playing games at times

As stated. My PC will crash when playing certain games.

It's been occurring since before I upgraded my CPU.

Current specs as follows

RYZEN 7 5800X
64GB DDR4 3200MHz Corsair Vengance RAM
10TB of storage (6TB HDD, 2 2tb SSD)
Windows 11, Home (updated)
550W PSU
RTX 2060 6TB VRAM
Corsair AIO Cooler

Now, I did check MDMP files and it seems to point to an issue with NVIDIA Drivers. I went ahead and used DDU and uninstalled them and reinstalled them, I also changed my TDRDelay to 10 seconds to allow time for it to try and reboot the Drivers.

My main concern is, Could this be my PSU or GPU. If its my GPU, would my 550W PSU even be able to handle a 3060? If not, what PSU is viable for this that won't break the bank?

If you need Mt MDMP files, I can send them.

550w is enough for a 3060

#

can you describe what the crashing's like

#

does your PC shut off like a power cut

#

does the display turn off but the PC stays on (fans spinning, rgb on etc)

Hi, Sorry for delay.

So the crashing tends to go like
Stuttering, Sound continues for a few seconds. Then black screens and a pop in headset.
PC Doesn't shut off, it stays on with Fans spinning, RGB Running and USB's still connected (I know this as I have a USB Fan next to me and it will keep spinning).

ah ok, are you experiencing any overheating issues? have you overclocked your system?

#

sounds like a hard GPU crash to me

#

also, when did these issues start happening, was there something you did not long before they started happening? (e.g. updating drivers)

this happened to me

#

there’s a major settings you need to do before doing a DDU. i found it in a video and it really helped me. is it okay to post the link here?

can you check event viewer to see if there's any errors/critical warnings thrown by any nvidia programs before the crash?

Event viewer -> windows logs -> system -> filter for 'Critical' and 'Error'

I just need my PC to work lol as I use it for work at times and without it, I can't lol

viscid abyss
#

the last crash was at about 14:57 ish

#

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
"The previous system shutdown at 14:26:33 on ‎12/‎04/‎2025 was unexpected."

this is the TDRDelay I had to do.
This wasn't actually there last time. but still has occured

watch the video, the guy did well to explain
run your pc on high performance as well

i think you should do a GPU stress test to see how it copes under load - because it mostly happens in games it might be power related

#

you'll have to leave it on a stress test for an hour

#

i'd recommend furmark or OCCT for the stress test

viscid abyss
#

Never consistent

dim violet
viscid abyss
# dim violet it's random even with a stress test?

yeah, so let me put it into perspective. I was playing Star Citizen about 45 minutes ago (I know it's EA but still). It stuttered but that's to be expected with my system at times.

I then loaded into the ground floor on tutorial and it just went black screen etc

#

I had about 2.5 weeks of no issues. then it started again

#

nvlddmkm.sys is what is showing in MDMP File

dim violet
#

do you have geforce experience/nvidia overlay enabled

viscid abyss
#

It shouldn't be. I shall check in case

#

It is turned off

dim violet
#

alright

#

you should do a VRAM test in OCCT - only for 10 minutes or so

viscid abyss
#

OK, Lemme try that quickly

#

gotta install the bugger first

dim violet
#

if that doesn't have any issues you should underclock your GPU by -50 or -100 MHz for the core clock and -100 or -200MHz for the memory clock

because the crashes only happen every so often it'll take some time before you're sure the issues have stopped

#

100%

#

ignore the time

viscid abyss
#

test is running

#

You said for about10 minutes yeah?

dim violet
#

yeah just 10 mins or so

viscid abyss
#

aight, I take it that it will show any errors potentially? Not had much yet

humble onyx
viscid abyss
#

No errors after 13 minutes

viscid abyss
#

This time a crash occured when moving files across giving me a DPC Watchdog Violation

nvlddmkm.sys is what failed

#

It seems A-xmp was enabled. Would this potentially be the cause for both tdr faliure and dpc watchdog violation

pale vine
#

i was having thesame issue, the clean DDU fixed the problem

hushed scrollBOT
#

cprgbglitch :tada: Congrats @pale vine, you levelled up to 11! :tada: cprgbglitch

viscid abyss
#

which might suggest that to be the error but I am unsure until I manage to test it fully

dim violet
#

if you want to rule out memory/memory overclock being the issue you can use memtest86 with XMP enabled
