#Significant Overheating Issue

Been playing Cyberpunk 2077 with no issues until today, where the temperature count on the motherboard is showing 90C and all the lighting starts flashing red. Quit out of the game and it got back to stable sub-50C temperatures, but the hardware I've got shouldn't be having this problem, even at high settings.

I'm not exactly sure what's happening, might be a graphics card issue or something to do with the cooling not switching on properly when I'm running something intensive.

the flashing red is caused by icue - there's a setting somewhere for your cooler that will set all your RGB to red and at high enough temperatures to shutdown - you can disable it somewhere in icue settings (on your coolers profile)

#

as for the temperatures, 90C is kind of toasty for the CPU, iirc you have the 9800X3D right?

Thanks for the info, but I'm honestly more worried about the super-high temperatures: was running CP2077 on the first couple of days and only hitting mid-60s

#

Yeah I have a 9800X3D

surreal shadow
#

oh that's odd - is your CPU cooler ramping up the fan speed properly?

oblique seal
#

Not sure how to check that

surreal shadow
#

you can either check in iCue or just by listening to the fans, can you hear them getting louder (indicating an increase in fan speed)

Corsair iCue

I can, yeah

surreal shadow
#

have you found the setting for disabling the flashing red

#

i'd show you but my cooler has decided not to connect to icue 😭

#

you should do a stress test (it'll put a heavy load on your CPU) to see how it copes

Prime95 Stress Testing

:one: Visit the link below and download Windows: 64-bit
:two: Open the zip file you just downloaded and run Prime95.exe
:three: Click 'Extract', choose a File Location then click 'Extract' again.
:four: Run Prime95 from the File Explorer window which just opened and select 'Just Testing'
:five: Run the Large FFTs Test, leaving all the other settings on the defaults, and allow it to run for two hours.
:exclamation: If your PC freezes or crashes while running the test or the two hours are up, let us know.
:six: At the top, select Test and click Stop, then go to Options and choose Torture Test.
:seven: Run the Blend Test, leaving all the other settings on the defaults, and allow it to run for 2 hours.
:exclamation: If your PC freezes or crashes while running the test or the two hours are up, let us know.

you should use this as the stress test ^

#

and the thing below to monitor temperatures:

HWiNFO

Download either the Installer or Portable version
For temperatures, run in Sensor Only mode.

Okay yeah, just checked again and for some reason the fans weren't engaging

surreal shadow
#

oh?

oblique seal
#

Manually changed the fan settings on iCue from balanced to extreme and the temperature is dropping

#

Now sub-60 but I'm worried about why it's not automatically switching

surreal shadow
oblique seal
#

Like, automatically ramping up when running something intensive

#

If I just set everything to max all the time I'm gonna burn the fans and pump out

surreal shadow
oblique seal
#

Alright, well I'm just glad I'm seeing less insane temperatures
