Would i need heatsink?

My motherboard is the msi mag b650 tomahawk and I'm trying to find a good nvme ssd to game on. But not sure if I'd need one with a heatsink or one without.

You won't really need a heatsink with the NVMe, most of the time just passive cooling from the air in the case is enough

Unless you're getting a very high end one, passive cooling is fine, and the higher end ones come with their own heatsinks.

I was thinking of the Samsung 990 pro and I saw it had two versions of it, one with and without the heatsink

The non-heatsink one is probably for motherboards with NVMe covers.

I'll be honest with you, the chances of a NVMe overheating is unlikely.

Your B650 Tomahawk has two M.2 covers, so if you got the one without the heatsink.
