#want to upgrade to ryzen and a new mobo/ddr5 but not sure
164 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
DDR5 is only AM5 and 12/13/14th gen
would a 7 5800x 3d not work in am5
or maybe a 7800x3d
future proofed i suppose
bro remember like 2 weeks ago u were helping me w the pc being dodgy, sent it back and turns out it was the gpu being dead, along side a ram stick and the ssd😳 got the email to say it had been repaired this morning
5800x3d is AM4
So if I get a 7800x3d and 32gb of ddr5 6000 will I be good to upgrade the gpu in a year or so and still be fine for the future plus what kind of psu would I need I think I have 650w rn
I'd personally say you would be fine with a 650W PSU
And motherboard
Yeah yeah to like one of the am5 atx ones
Like £130 or something right? Idk
Then the cpu like 350 and the ram maybe 150
Ram more like £120 and motherboard £150 so yeah same thing
I had a problem w my case tho so I’d end up having to try get that fixed too the fans are always at max rpm and don’t show up in bios or software idk why
I asked them to have a look at it when they were repairing it so they may have sorted it for me not sure tho
Should be fine
What would happen if I took the SSD out of my PC that I already have and then put it into the new motherboard would it work or
Yes it would work
Might need a windows reinstall though
What really I thought I need a new SSD, but maybe not on the repair remember when we said the GPU might be broken. It was ram and the SSD as well somehow how would that even happen? lol
The ram ssd and gpu have had to be replaced on a 4 month old pc 😂
Errh, really bad luck or PSU? Weird
They not replaced the psu so if the stuff goes dodgy again I’ll tell them that might be a better option lol they emailed and said they replaced the parts and tested it and it all passed so idk
Only 1 stick of ram replaced tho so maybe something with dpd the driver doing drifts or smt 😂
It will be fine aha
Hopefully
The way big Gary took it off me and banged it into the van I’m not surprised
Shocked that it got there in one piece tbh
Lool
Will they resend it with a new sealed air thing in you think? Cba with it arriving damaged
Won't need a new one (maybe they use a new one? You can just reuse it tho)
It will be perfect
Mine was messed up wouldn’t even fit in it properly I had to like improvise
Hopefully they just use a new one for the sake of it
Probs about 2 quid each
Anyway give urself a pat on the back as a pc fault diagnoser, correct on the fact it was gpu, added it may be storage and questioned the ram
Well done good sir
Hopefully it all works out!
They will be shipping it optimally, don't know if that means it needs a new one or not.
All it's doing is supporting the GPU
Ah well it’s only a 3060 so not sagging or anything hopefully be fine either way
Yeah, it will be fine
Tbh the laptop I went and bought smokes the pc performance wise so I’m gonna use the laptop for now til I can upgrade the pc sometime later in the year
:tada: Congrats @river lynx, you levelled up to 5! :tada:
I would of suggested to pay the difference and upgrade but not sure if you can do that now
Probably still in the refund period for the laptop so I could just spend some of the money I spent on the laptop on the parts
And be up a few hundred
Although if the pc goes dodgy again then idk where I stand bc If I modify it then it’s probs my problem
You can modify it however you like if you don't damage it, the original pc parts will still be under warranty
and if you're ever unsure, can always ask us
I could get a 4070 and a 7800x3d 32gb of ddr5 and some kind of aio for the price I payed on the laptop if I was to refund it
My PC warranty ends in June, after that ima try do a small form factor build
I’ve seen a few of them the itx builds
Some guy on YouTube called optimum his vids are good he’s done a few of them
Yeah
I love him
I watch him all the time ngl a few other ppl too but he’s my favourite for pcs and stuff
There’s another guy pc centric or something he does builds and stuff
Yeah
I heard the case I have is meant to be fairly quiet but as I say my fans are like
Jets and idk why
What case?
It’s a lancool 216
I have the same case
When it wasn't tuned it was SO BAD
Oooh I know what happened
Hopefully they fixed it at the repair and if not I’m gonna need a detailed guide as soon as I get the pc back
It's an easy mistake to make tbf
They would of
Doesn’t it need to be in the fan hub part at the back
You will know if you need to fix it
I’ve been watching countless guides and stuff now I’ve realised it’s fairly easy to build a pc
I was always afraid of the wiring tbh
Like i didn’t know where to plug what but I’ve been doing some research
It's easy to build a PC but the perks of prebuilts are quite massive
The warranty part for me has come in clutch
For instance, you would be waiting atleast a month for parts to come
I’m sure they’ll send the broken parts off to msi etc but I’ve got the new gpu straight away
So
Exactly
It’s way better
💯
They can get their warranty claim at no cost to me and I’m sorted w the new gpu
Is a 3060 12gb still even okay idek
a 3060 is still a very capable card, yes
Managed to run some resident evil 8 at max settings at like 100 fps I only play on 1080 atm tho so idk but the cpu holds the pc back that’s why I wanna upgrade
Can’t you replace the 4070 like warranty claim or anything
Refunded to Amazon
Ah well at least u got the money back
Yes
I was going to buy another GPU but I'm going to give myself a bit more time with my current build
As far as I know if I stay on 1080p the 3060 12g should be perfectly fine for some time right? Just the cpu is poo
Yes it's fine
Do you struggle with games? If not, don't upgrade
Don't get FOMO cause you aren't missing out
Don’t exactly struggle but the motherboard I have is shit too the ram speeds and that like sometimes it did stutter and stuff yeah and like id prefer more than 90 fps in rust tbh
And it’s the cpu and ram limiting that so
And cpu intensive games it’s like 200fps or less sometimes on medium or even low
Motherboard != Performance unless thermal throttling
the case was freezing inside nothing was getting too hot trust me
Them fans bro
Was middle of December that pc was like a snow blaster it was icy air I’m telling you
Had to put socks on because of it toes were like ice blocks under the desk
Is pc part picker outdated now?
I’m trying to configure what I’ll upgrade with and the am5 and cpu aren’t even on there wtf
If the fans aren’t fixed when I get the pc back can you help me fix it plz 😳
No
The am5 socket and the cpu aren’t showing up
You can't put certain components together
They don’t come up anyway
I fixed it
I think it was because I had an old selection of ddr4
Would that be ok
Tbh I hate rgb but they don’t seem to do like a minimalist water cooler thing
AIO is overpriced for what it is
360mm liquid freezer aio
Ahh yeah looks nice the black one with 3 fans only £60 too
Will get that then won’t be getting the stuff now but will at some point
You can also get upgrades from cpuk directly if you wish
Does it come with warranty from them too?
If so id probably think about that tbh because i cba breaking it although id like to learn
Do u think it’s worth it or am I better doing it myself for the experience
How badly could it go wrong I know about the static and stuff
Pros and cons for both
Tbh I’d probably do it myself then I’ll know how to do it for the future
In case I had to
Static doesn't really matter anymore, don't wear socks, don't build on carpet, you can ground yourself and it's fine
Ah well I’d probably be fine then as long as I fix the fans on that case I’ll never need socks in this room again 😂
When yours was like a jet did it blow some arctic air out the back or just mine
Yeah everything was cold
Even like hours into a game genuinely cold like if you open the freezer and stand infront of it idk why
yeah
If it’s not sorted I’ll have to try and plug them in myself somehow
It's going to be fine
The scary part about something with the mobo is like
Flashing bios or something
Idk wtf to do
And would I even have to with a am5 and new chip idk
Noice
What does rma even stand for
