Hi all, I recently got a brand new system from Cyberpower UK (4090, i7 13700KF) - I had to send the GPU back because it was faulty (it had weird stain on it), but I'm still getting very odd stuttering issues in old or less demanding games like DOOM (using source ports like DSDA) and DUSK.
Essentially, I have tried the following things:
- running everything uncapped with no g-sync / v-sync - this leads to FPS running into the hundreds, sometimes thousands and produces screen tearing. This also puts an uncessary strain on my hardware and power consumption.
- enabling g-sync, v-sync in Nvidia CP, and capping frame rate at -3 below my monitor's refresh rate (as suggested by blur busters) - frame rates will wobble between 130 and 141 fps and produce noticeable stutter.
- turning off g-sync and just running v-sync and a frame rate cap - produces wildly inconsistent frame times and stutters to an unplayable level.
Modern games like RE:4 Remake and Cyberpunk play as expected and do not drop frames. However, I also thoroughly enjoy playing older titles too and thought this PC wouldn't have an issue with them at all.
All drivers are up to date, all software is using the latest versions. I've disabled background processes and monitored CPU usage in HWInfo64. Temps are absolutely fine in all situations. I've stress tested both the GPU and the CPU using benchmarking software and all is behaving as it should.
Basically, I'm at a total loss here. My old PC (3070, i7 9700KF) could run these games at a flawless 141 fps with a completely flat frame time graph using the aforementioned g-sync / v-sync / fps cap.
I am seriously considering returning this PC as I only got it a week ago (Sat 21st) and am still within the 'cooling off' period.
Here are some videos to demonstrate the issue.
- just v-sync (no g-sync) - completely unplayable:
- completely uncapped - playable, but still inconsistent:
Please help!
:tada: Congrats @vital frost, you levelled up to 3! :tada:
