I am going to have to remove my CPU cooler to install a new one, I have question how would I go about removing the cooler safely from the cpu as in one of my past builds when I took cooler off it yanked out the cpu

also what is the best way to clean the paste of the top of the cpu

Okay, so to go around removing it, the CPU cooler will be attached to the board by screws,

If you shoot a picture of the cooler itself, they do vary, so I'd want to give you accurate instructions

Once you have done the 12 or 8 screws depending on radiator size, just lift it out, clean thermal paste with some paper towel and maybe isopropyl alcohol if you have some

Wait.. I think I'm being thick... On the backside of the motherboard, there's a backplate, These are sometimes held on with adhesive to make it easier during installation, If you gently push down on the screws at the front, the plate should detach

Last time I removed a CPU backplate, thats the process I had to do, as sometimes the adhesive can be a bit strong

Best practice is while installing, install them all finger tight, then screw them in until you’re confident it’s tight, you don’t want to thread the screws, but just have it tight enough it’s secure
