#Help with CPU fan remove and clean
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Okay, so to go around removing it, the CPU cooler will be attached to the board by screws,
If you shoot a picture of the cooler itself, they do vary, so I'd want to give you accurate instructions
I will do once I remove it, last time the cpu paste made it pull cpu out, is there is a way you have ti wiggle it off or something like that
Yeah.. uh, with removing it you just gotta be gentle
You defo don't want to be pulling your whole CPU out of its socket,
I learnt that when the pins bent with last build
For removing the left over thermal paste, I normally use cotton buds and isophorhic
its a aio atm and that is what I will be swapping too
I gotta go check my banana bread, I'll leave you in Spooky's capable hands
Rookie mistake 🙏Don't yank it out
thank you
It's an AIO ATM?
yes but this is faulty cyber power is sending me a new one but I put the form in on weekend so will have to wait till monday for it to process
Oooooh I'm sorry aha
But yeah the radiator is still attached
Let's remove the pump head first , looks like you don't really wanna be warming up the thermal paste so be a bit more careful if it is AM4
Ah you will be fine then, still - don't try yank it out
In that case, 4 screws on pump head
I have a non aio in my old pc it is noctua NH-D15
would I be able to use that as temp or not best idea
Unscrew in a crisscross pattern
That will be fine yeah
will it be powerful enough
what is the best thermal paste to buy
NT-H1?
That's the one
Okay, so remember with removing the pump head, crisscross 2x (50% unscrewed the first round)
what is SW edition
or artic MX
So in an X direction
will do I prob be back when I go to do it
Theres the radiator aswell
Noctua’s NT-H1 is a renowned hybrid thermal compound that has received more than 150 awards and recommendations from international hardware websites and magazines. Thanks to its excellent performance, exceptional ease of use and outstanding long-term stability, it has become an established favour...
Or if you're feeling fancy, get one of those new thermal sheets
What case do you have?
erm hold up
And mounted to the front or top?
Faded's System Specs
CPU - Intel® Core™M 17-13700F
GPU - GeForce® RTX 4060 Ti 16GB
RAM - 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5/5200mhz Corsair Vengeance Memory
NVME - 2TB Kingston
MOTHERBOARD - Gigabyte B760 DS3H DDR5:
I did not add case
top
Top should be easiest anyways
If it's just a case with the mesh ontop it's likely just the rad hanging off the screws
CyberPowerPC PRISM Panoramic Gaming case - Black ahh shii the not sure the case will fit it
or if you're like me, completely thread the radiator screws and its permanently attached to the case
DONT do that
lmao
I was a bit over-eager with the drill
(very easy way to puncture a radiator, surprised you didn't)
alright mr
I wont be using a drill
Thank fu-
😂
Anyways let me condense these instruction things over so it's easy to read
for real though, get a ifixit kit, those things are amazing for all things technical
erm case is 234.6mm and fan is 150mm will it fit with the motherboard in there
That case does look a little narrow but you can try... 😦
shii
Alright so I'm used to the nice stuff from Lian li
I really want play games but prob just have to wait for aio
Those radiator trays you can slide out
Tuesday/Wednesday probably
Is it a door to door swap
Or an item over £100
do I need to give them old cooler?
Okay will do
Okay so your radiator/fans screwed in the top
rad is yee
See if there's screws at the top part
Should be screwed in the outside of the case but I might be really stupid cause I haven't worked with these cases
Yeah that's the design I know
Okay pump head first
Do that
Then unscrew top screws 4 at a time, those fans will fall out probably
imma add this to notes on phone so I know I will remove the cooler once the form is processed
Once you have done the 12 or 8 screws depending on radiator size, just lift it out, clean thermal paste with some paper towel and maybe isopropyl alcohol if you have some
No worries
That should be it, let me know if you need anymore help or if what I have said is complete bs and it's wrong
Will do thank you so much @quiet dew and @keen sky for help means alot
❤️❤️
How would I go about taking this off as I have no room to move it
I got it off does this dry out as I can get some isopropyl alcohol delivered tomoz
I got it off safety but I have nothing to clean it with would it be ok to put side on pc and clean it tomoz I can get isopropyl alcohol wipes tomoz
That has lint it I swear
But would it be okay to leave till tomoz as not sure we have any paper towels lmao
😨no paper towels
Yea it's fine
Just making sure it won’t go hard
We hardly use them
True
What about the old cpu cooler not sure what to do about that
I mean cleaning it
Ahh
I have no way to clean it
Backplate goes with cpu what about the screws that are holding the radiator to the case
I have no idea how to even remove it
You just take out the screws and hold the fans
Fans?
I only have these for cpu back plate
Is it coming tomorrow
Which attaches to the plate at back but there no screws
I think Wednesday but I been getting nervous so taking off now
Okay
No worries thank you for help doe ❤️
I looked at msi website and it does not mention it comes with it
Wym and will shoot them email now
:tada: Congrats @bright cape, you levelled up to 9! :tada:
Intel socket
Does not mention backplate doe but no idea gonna shoot them email for tomoz
👍
If my memory does not deceive me, those black spacers should come off, and then the back-plate should come straight out
How do I go about taking them off as they won’t turn
Wait.. I think I'm being thick... On the backside of the motherboard, there's a backplate, These are sometimes held on with adhesive to make it easier during installation, If you gently push down on the screws at the front, the plate should detach
Last time I removed a CPU backplate, thats the process I had to do, as sometimes the adhesive can be a bit strong
Ahh okie I will look into that soon thank you ❤️
The spacers should turn I think
yeah he's said they wouldn't turn, so I'm thinking just pushing the screws down to kick the back plate off
backplates are either held on with adhesive or glue, so easiest way is to just push em
Sometimes, well, some of the Corsair ones I've had in the past, have what I can only describe as adhesive on the backplate
It's to hold it in place during installation or whatever
Right - Only worked with AMD systems and never took the time to give my 10400 a fresh coat of thermal paste
There was what looked like adhesive
Dried out in the box/computer (the motherboard my friend got had a backplate that just fell off)
yeah the H115i Corsair one contains 3M adhesive
for ease of install
so that's probably where I'm remembering it from
There is no glue/adhesive I asked support they said to turn them but they will not turn for me just hurting my fingers
I can show a video if u like
Honestly my only thought is they might be overtightened,
Do you know what cooler it is? Was it a stock cooler?
No it was an MSI AIO
Yeah my only thought is it could be overtightened then,
They said I can use pliers I tried with some and still no luck so they said keep it on and use it with the new cooler coming
Yeah sometimes if someone overtightens it whilst installing, it can make it a real pain to get off,
yeah you can use it
They are proper on there I will work it out later down the line when I change cpu or cooler
Yeah, but atleast you know with the new cooler, there ain't a possibility of the backplate coming off during installation lol
That is true lmao
If anything it'll make installing the new cooler easier, just slap it on there
Lesss goooo
yea
I love this community, so kind and helpful and can have a laugh
❤️
❤️
How do I know if my cpu cooler is tightened correctly
Best practice is while installing, install them all finger tight, then screw them in until you’re confident it’s tight, you don’t want to thread the screws, but just have it tight enough it’s secure
They won’t turn no more
Also
Do I plug cpu pump into sys_fan1
Download either the Installer or Portable version
For temperatures, run in Sensor Only mode.
No
opps
how do I do that
miles better
you did good
Looks good
is the 75c peak okay
Very ok!
okay yayay thank you everyone for you help means alot
