I am giving my old CPUK PC to my sister and buying a new CPUK, but I need to reset the PC so it doesn’t have any of my data on. However, I want to keep windows 10 installed so that she can use the PC. How can I do this?

There are a few ways to reset your PC and keep Windows 10 installed.

  • Reset from the Settings app
  1. Open the Settings app by pressing Windows+I.
  2. Click on "Update & Security".
  3. Click on "Recovery".
  4. Under "Reset this PC", click on "Get started".
  5. Select whether you want to keep your files or delete everything.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your PC.
  • Reset from the Windows Recovery Environment
  1. Turn on your PC and press F8 repeatedly until you see the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
  2. Click on "Troubleshoot".
  3. Click on "Advanced options".
  4. Click on "Reset this PC".
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your PC.
  • Use a recovery disk or USB drive
  1. Create a recovery disk or USB drive using the Windows Media Creation Tool.
  2. Boot your PC from the recovery disk or USB drive.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your PC.

Once your PC has been reset, your sister will be able to use it with Windows 10 installed. However, she will need to create a new user account and install any applications that she wants to use.

Here are some additional tips for resetting your PC:

  • Back up your data before you reset your PC. This is important in case you lose any important files.
  • Choose the option to keep your files if you want to keep your personal files, such as documents, photos, and music.
  • Choose the option to delete everything if you want to remove all of your personal data from the PC.
  • Be patient. The reset process can take a while, so be patient and let it finish.

:warning: When reinstalling Windows, you will lose any files which are not backed up to the cloud or an external drive - please ensure any files you would like to keep are backed up before continuing.

:one: Click the button below and download the 'Create Windows 10 Installation media' tool.
:two: Follow through the installation tool, and choose 'USB flash drive' when prompted. Your USB flash drive must be 8GB or greater.
:three: Once the tool has finished, shut down the PC you're installing Windows on and insert the USB drive.
:four: Next, repeatedly press the following key while your PC is turning on, depending on your motherboard:
rog ASUS/ROG: F8
aorus Aorus/Gigabyte: F12
msi asrock cp MSI/ASRock/Cyberpower: F11
Then choose your USB drive from the list to boot from it.
:five: Follow through the installation tool. When it asks for your product key, click Skip - your PC will automatically reactivate. Make sure to select the same Windows version as you ordered with your PC, then choose a Custom installation.
:six: Select the drive in which you would like to install Windows on (you will want to install Windows on your SSD, this is typically a smaller drive), delete any partitions which already exist and then select Drive # Unallocated Space, and click Next.
:seven: Once your PC restarts, you will be taken to the first-time setup screen, where you can setup your user account and preferences.
