#CPU constantly at 100 degrees

Hey so I’ve had this issue for a week now and it’s only just become pretty bad. Essentially as soon as I turn my computer on the CPU temp is something crazy high like 80 to 100, and switches very rapidly. I would occasionally get CPU heat warnings when I’d turn my pc off. I’ve just cleaned the heat sink which was pretty dusty, as well as the fans. But now it turns on for a few seconds, gives me an overheat warning and turns off pretty soon after. I need this computer for college work asap so any help would be appreciated!

It’s water cooled using an MSI cooler
The cpu is the intel i9 12900k
The fans are all fully operational

Yeah, its possible that its a faulty cooler. In the event its not, its known for the 12900k to run very hot. Some of the best coolers on the market struggle to keep temps under control

Yeah I’ve heard it’s a pretty hot one

#

But I assumed since it was jumping several degrees a second it was impossible

#

As well as starting up at a 100 degrees

Most cpus run hot on startup

#

My Ryzen cpu can sometimes hit 70-75 on startup but won’t reach those temps again

Here’s a picture meanwhile

Yeah it looks like it is that one, if you get in touch with tech support they can organise a replacement for you 🙂

Please ensure to include your order number, the issue you are facing and any steps you have already taken to try and fix the issue.

MSI have released a V2 edition of the cooler which has the problem fixed, so you'll likely get one of those

Oh awesome

#

Should I just leave my pc off then?

#

I don’t want to break it

Ideally not use the PC for the time being especially not playing games

But I also really need it as my course work is due next week 😭

I’m taking game development so that’s not ideal

What should I say in the email Harry? Just that my cpu cooler is faulty?

#

Also surely I should have been notified in some way by cyber power because they know I have the faulty cooler 🤔… it wouldn’t be great if my CPU is broken from this

Yeah mention that its reaching 100C and make sure to include your order number and they can get that sorted for you - they can either replace your faulty one for you to install yourself or have the system sent back if you prefer

Not all of the coolers are affected and it only shows up after its been used for a while - if your CPU did get damaged (though unlikely as it has built in protections to slow it down to keep cool and eventually shut off) it would be covered under warranty

Ah right ok

Thank you so much Harry!
