#Trying to expand system with HDD using PCIe 8 pin Female to SATA power
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
sorry
I want to expand my system and I see a spare PCI-E 8 pin just sat doing nothing. It looks like it could be a part of the cable that goes to my graphics card, but it could just be two 8 pin connectors cable tied together. I'm planning to get a PCIe 8 pin female to SATA power to try and power a HDD that I took from my old Xbox One. Will that work, or will my RTX 3050 fry?

Never mind. I had another SATA power cable anyway. Oopsie doodles on my part.
i wouldn't use the drives from a Xbox One, i've heard they don't play nicely on PC due to firmware and the obvious ones being speed
yeah i know
but i like having more space
it's gonna be a temporary measure while i wait to get a 2.5" SATA SSD
If you've got spare slot M.2 slot that's probably a better place to start
m.2 is expensive and that's money i dont really have
:tada: Congrats @sweet palm, you levelled up to 3! :tada:
i use an m.2 for my boot drive
so this is really just for extra game storage and such
the drive in my xbox one was this one
If you're after a 1TB or 2TB sata you can get an NVME usually for 5 to 10 pound more
true true but i also have no job and no money atm lmfao
so i'm trying to save money where i can
every penny counts
👍
update to this: xbox hard drive worked. turns out i obviously had some SATA power cables, i just couldnt find them at first
