@ocean meteor Sorry but i disagree
there needs to be a 4th rank, for the best of the best
There is no one called "best of the best" No one is the best at anything, They're just experienced.
Nah there definitely is
It just means someone who is the most skilled out of everyone
Nope, You can find someone better than someone else among S4
Rank 3 will be the new Rank 4
It isn’t like this for vfx, I know vfx isn’t as huge but we’ve only had one legitimate e4 for about a year
RSC ranking is flawed, All because of the 4 ranks, And it takes lots of careful consideration to rank someone rank 4
Wait tell me how it’s flawed though ive never really seen any issue as a former vfx ranker and a rank department staff
Even neon knows ranking is flawed, And most of people know its flawed
But how
In the old days, There was only 3 ranks, So when rank 4 was made, Neon had to promote every rank to rank 4, Which means no one in ranking was ranked, But it was hand picked
Thats the first of many issues
ill give my comment on this when im not busy but my current thought on this is no
Sure
-
this requires a full ranking overhaul, im not saying that change would be bad, but on this scale it's a little much and could get very confusing
-
theres too large of a skill disparity in 3 ranks, how does one jump from "you can have some mistakes/messy code" directly to "you've mastered luau scripting and all your code works perfectly with perfect implementation".
-
this doesn't help with judges being more fair when giving ranks, that is a whole separate issue that wouldn't be majorly affected by this
-
"everyone will know exactly what skills they need to improve" just isn't true. if anything, it's gonna be more difficult to outline exactly what people need to jump ranks due to the very large gap in between them.
-
Dont worry about that, If people agree with it i get it done.
-
Those are examples, But the guideline will be more clear on what will you need to do to get that rank.
-
This makes judging easier, Because you wont be stuck on 4 ranks to decide, You check someone work and see if they are beginner, proficient or expert.
-
Again, there will be clear guideline about this for each ranking category.
i think people will end up stuck primarily in rank 2 for way too long and not even want to get ranked, i also think its too wishful of thinking to say that there will be clear guidelines for each ranking category considering there arent even full guidelines for each dev category with our current system
overall my stance on it is
theres too little spacing in between ranks with this system, it could be easier to rank, but it's making the workload for people getting those ranks much harder. someone who is currently low-mid a2 for instance, could be dropped all the way down to mid a1 and wont even consider reapplying
I disagree
I agree
i disagree with this tbh
most people wont even have expert at all
only like in the 2 figures
S3 is like a buffer zone
Because i can definitely tell the difference between s2, s3 amd s4
yeah s2 is like a decent programmer
s3 is a good programmer who is comfortable with making anything and making the code clean in the process
s4 is an expert
theres a distinction
and im sure it works in a similar way for other ranks too
theres a line between good work and perfection
i disagree
Neon is online for once
🤫
reacting with a thumbs up like he cant just do it 💔
yeah if he says we have 3 ranks we have 3 ranks 😭
neon u better not do this
neon u better not do this shit
worse suggestion
ever existed
cant change the tradiztion
why are people downvoting this
this is a good suggestion
having more divisions is what creates arguments and drama because it makes distinctions less clear
and at the end of the day, if this is an issue for scripting alone, then just make scripting ranks different
ranking is already somewhat decentralized between each role type
