Help. How to actually learn from 0 to scripter
I personally pick something that is simple but I don’t quite know how to do. Then when I’m on the part that I don’t know how to do then lookup what your stuck on followed by “roblox” and read some dev posts or roblox documentation.
What if I don't know anything litterally 😭
Don’t go strait to a big game, just start with mini projects to practice
Watch some thedevking videos
Like watch 10 or smth
Learn the basic syntax of lua then refine of specific things
Once you know functions, events, variables, loops, and parameters then you should be ready to do some small projects
Overall watch videos to learn the basics, maybe follow along and expand a bit. Then try to make something you believe you can with the skills you learned and look up anything that you don’t know how to do.
So just learn something -> make something you can (if u get stuck google) -> learn more and make something
Is this a good plan?
Yeah
I started with watching videos and following along
I garuntee that most scripters here started by watching videos then making many, many small projects.
Anytime Domy
One more thing
There are many good beginner scripting series on YouTube
Try to watch one
I learned the basics from youtubers like TheDevKing and BrawlDev, then I learned more advanced things from following full system tutorials, looking for stuff I dont know about on the dev forum, and looking through more advanced free model scripts.
How can you learn looking at something beyond your level
Dev forum is important
Dev forum has beginner devs who had the EXACT same problems that you had
Like if I did that at math I would start crying hysterically instantly
thats like saying "I keep repeating the same thing over and over again why am I not learning new things from doing this"
I know but like if your looking at it without explanation
💀
Or do you do research on what u see
Or am I just stupid
well thats why you need to learn the basics first

if you know absolutely nothing about code then you wont get anything
Say I learned how to change a parts color. Then I can try to make a disco floor using loops.
but once you get how things are structured you can kind of infer what certain things do just by looking at them
** You are now Level 1! **
If I get my brains melting in studio I'll just @ you two
Feel free
I don't want my high ambitions dropping down from a rage quit
sure 😭
All this game making stuff is 🔥
I agree
Scripting has a steep learning curve unlike building. We have to put practice and effort in to actually get better.
hm
Bro and I want to do like all things. 😭 Scripting, building, animating and vfx
But I think Scripting is hard part
Scripting is nessesary and usually gets paid a lot…
I can script but do nothing else 🤷♂️
I cant build for the life of me
not matter what I try
Guys do you know combat worriors
scripting is something you can learn eventually and not something that you can have a "natural talent" for unlike building for some people
ye
Also if you know how to script you can make many types of games. Without knowing how to script you either have to hire someone or make an obby.
** You are now Level 8! **
Yeah lol
Is it true that like roblox Lua just dosent have patterns so like it's much harder to get into than in unity or godot
I haven’t heard that personally but it may be true
Roblox lua does have patterns tho
Ok
no..
imo luau is one of the easiest languages to learn
might be just because of how neat and not intimidating it is lol

I love the autofill
C++ sucks
Cool
Bold opinion, anyway if yall wanna talk use #💬︱general instead.
And you can either watch tutorials to how to svript, read roblox documentation on scripting and read developer forum
