It's actually very simple! I dissected the module made by ffvn and though the pixel processing can get complicated, it's a simple noise map that gets zoomed in/out to create an alpha mask

You can find the module online in the forums, it uses EditableImages, you may run into issues with emission though

The way I got the edges to glow is by using a highlight object, I fade out the edge transparency as the object fades in
