Teto, imagine if you will a young aspiring chef we'll call Alex. Alex dreams of opening a world class restaurant, but he doesn't know where to start. He looks up "how to start a restaurant" on youtube to no good results. Alex has a lot of passion and vision for his restaurant so he takes out a loan and buys a restaurant. On opening night, the kitchen is in chaos. Alex doesn't know how to properly use knives, Alex does not know how to manage the timing of different dishes, Alex is unfamiliar with what kinds of ingredients the dishes need. The food comes out badly prepared and his customers leave disappointed and within a month the restaurant closes with Alex in horrible debt and largely discouraged.

Let's imagine another person a person we'll call Josh. Josh knows that in order to open a restaurant he first needs to understand what goes into meal preparation. Josh knows that on top of cooking skills he'll also need to know how to run a business and hire staff. Josh has the same dreams as Alex did, but instead of buying a restaurant Josh starts taking cooking classes and becomes an apprentice under experienced chefs. Alex gets really good at knife work, flavor combinations, menu planning, and restauranteering. After a few years of practice Josh opens the restaurant of his dreams and everyone loves his expertly created dishes and he creates a long successful restaurant chain.

Do you understand why I tell you this story?

This example shows that to achieve a complex goal, you often need to first invest time in learning the necessary skills and gaining experience. Jumping straight to the end goal without this foundation can lead to failure and disappointment.

@edgy sorrel Thanks so much for the advice

#

What should I do now I don't have money to do this

#

Btw ur such a brave speaker keep it up with advices

placid heron
#

But he really impressed me and touched my heart with this story

Learn about what goes into being a game developer and then pursue those skills individually rather than the game as a whole.

placid heron
#

How

#

I don't have anyone to guide me

#

When I try asking in the scripting group no one respondes

edgy sorrel
#

I suggest you start with some googling and research, our community here will help you in the right direction when you get stuck.

#

Nobody is going to answer "how to be a scripter" with a solid answer. It's like asking how do I be the best chef, It's a really complex answer and the only people who could give you useful advice are few and far between. Sometimes you have to forge your own path to reach your goal by picking up as much information as you can.

Wow bro ur so helpful I have never seen someone this nice 😭

#

I'll try to google what I don't understand

#

But I always get stuck in scripting the stuff I do

Making games is a multi-discipline project that requires art, design, coding, sound design, modeling, composition work, animations, lots of things like that. Most devs only learn about one to two of these. I suggest you do the same and learn what interests you and try to find some friends to compensate for your weaknesses.

placid heron
#

I have no friends 😅

#

Except one who's always laza

#

Lazy*

#

So ur telling me I can learn design and scripting and that's it?

edgy sorrel
#

I guess you'll need to get talking with others as you start your journey so you can eventually make fun games.

edgy sorrel

More friends

edgy sorrel

Yeah of course, at least good ones.

placid heron
#

Ye I thought scripting is the hard part but I found out that finding friends is even harder 😅

It's not too tough, you'll make plenty once you start to work on your skills. You'll have your aspiration to talk with others about. Plenty of people in #📜︱scripting will talk with you about your scripts and games and stuff, you can use that resource to network and make friends/acquaintences.

placid heron
#

So it all starts from learning the basics and learning how to code/design?

edgy sorrel
#

yep

placid heron
#

Thanks so much for the advice dude

edgy sorrel
#

just start learning stuff and it'll take you places

placid heron
#

I'll start now
