@obtuse hawk what do you think
@obtuse hawk REEEEEE
@kindred ice hi
what do you think about requiring people to react to that post before being able to post
@trim granite You want to help me with this when you got time, I see you're in the trenches a lot
in what way do you need help with this?
Give me some rules and guidelines we should include in the mandatory read before posting, post
for #1020374354867007528 I would says something like:
- Try to explain your problem as clear as possible
- When relevant please include both the output and the related script (preferably using the discord script boxes)
-Please be patient for an answer and be kind to those trying to help you, they're just people that are most times trying to help you
-Add the solved tag to your post(or add [solved] to the title of your post) after the problem you had has been dealt with
(-please do not ask for full scripts inside this channel)
-Please try to keep the posts scripting related
- I've seen the community a tad split up about the last ones, some (like me) think that the best way to learn for new scripters is for them to try to make their own code, and then we help to debug or fix it (or we help them with the general steps the code needs to have for it to work, so that they can make it themselves with less trouble), yet I have also seen some people that just tend to give out the entire code for free
then I would say #1006356488912121967 (which I'm not often in)
-Please try to keep the posts studio related
- When relevant please include images or videos explaining your issue (windows + shift + s takes a screenshot on windows)
-Please be patient for an answer and be kind to those trying to help you, they're just people that are most times trying to help you
(-in case you're having trouble with blender related issues then you could also try to ask for help in the blender discord .gg/Blender)
(last one in between () for obvious reasons)
When I was first learning I learned a lot from example, I do agree that figuring stuff out on your own is incredibly important for new people learning about a technique or pattern for the first time can be more valuable. It's hard to know when though. I think we should add one about discord code blocks
```lua
-- your code here
something like that?
try to use discord code blocks instead of taking a screenshot of your code so people with varrying screen sizes can easily read it or something like that.
- Do not ask why something isn't working without describing what it's supposed to do first
oh
gotcha
wait I misspelled discord
yeah I think include an example tho because a lot of new people to discord don't know how
first one should explain that
As you can't explain a problem without stating it
Okay let me draft something up
👍
In order to ensure users get the help they need and helpers get the right information to help you we ask that you follow these guidelines:
⭐ When positing try to explain your problem as clearly as possible. Do not ask why something doesn’t work without explaining what it’s supposed to do.
⭐ When relevant please include both output, errors, and the relevant code you are having trouble with.
⭐ Use discord script boxes when posting code in order for easy reading on all screens.
```lua
-- Paste your script here
```
-- paste your script here
⭐ Try to format your code and fix indentation and other such issues if you know how.
⭐ Please be patient for an answer and be kind to those trying to help you. Your peers are taking time out of their day and providing you with free advice.
⭐ Add the solved tag to your post and or add [Solved] to your post title after your problem has been solved.
⭐ If you don’t post code do not expect someone to write something for you. You are allowed to post help questions without code included but you should expect a general explanation of the steps involved instead of a code response. If you need someone to write for you and you’re not trying to code yourself please check the #hiring channel.
⭐ Please try to keep the posts scripting related. There are various other channels for other support. #studio-help #help #812575718067404800-tickets
the posting doesn't work
as it won't copy the code block
it will just copy what's inside
-- Paste your script here
how did you managed on not getting it to convert to a codeblock?
its a neat trick
I like it, the only broken part (for me) is the channels
yeah
I wrote it in google docs and pasted it over
i'll need to fix that part
test
oh they disabled markdown
This is what you use for the rules is this better?
Yeah thats better
@obtuse hawk sorry for the ping but the
```lua
--your code here
seems to have messed up a tad (inside the pinned post)
\```lua
-- paste your script here
\```
```lua
-- paste your script here
paste it like this
why did you include remove the 's?
which quotes is he even referring to?
i think he's referring to the backticks
so we added in an extra point to tell people to first add backticks, then remove them?
yeah idk
@obtuse hawk something happen?
?
