#please teach me how to script
61 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
For the basics I recommend following youtube guides, maybe from TheDevKing or someone. I completed his basic and advanced scripting tutorials and now I keep learning by reading scripts and using the roblox dev forum and the documentation.
it does not work like that, no one in their right mind will teach you how to script if you have not even started, that's a huge investment of time you are asking
you don't learn to script in 2 or 3 days
it takes months to just be functional, and years to master it
follow this advice, get yourself started with the basic, see if you actually like scripting and then you may consider asking for free tutoring 🙂
I literally learned it by watching tutorials and it does work.
it's way more than that actually, to be fair you surely might know a good deal of the basics, but roblox tutorials alone won't teach you
I learned it by youtube tutorials and i'm s1!! yay!
math stuff is hard
programming - math = EASYYY
arguably! same as programming
oh you say that cause you still have seen the hardcore programming stuff 😈 boi
but siiince it's soo easy, here 😄
Data-Oriented Design
that's a book on scalable programming arquitectures that many of us S3's and S4's apply
supah easy, take a look at it :3
Surely for most of the important stuff. The rest is more of learning by doing for me. Obviously it can get much more complicated. But i honestly dont think it does get more complicated for most of the games.
watch youtube tutorials lol
keyword: for most games that is 100% correct the problem is that your metric is bad because most roblox games are horrendously coded and their code bases an absolute nightmarish spaggetti black hole (now that's a halloween costume idea!)
The reality is you do have to do some complex code designing to achieve a mantainable codebase regardless if you work alone or with others
notice that I'm not telling you to overengineer
that is just as bad
Thats kinda true but not what most people need
correct it depends in the goals
if your aim is to make a serious project you intent to launch and bring developers over
then it absolutely applies
I also try to keep my code clean but most of the roblox documentation is enough for that
?
Like
huh?
Using easy functions methods etc i find in the documentation
that has nothing to do with clean code
I dont need more than the basics ig xD
clean code is well structured, readable code that follows design patterns to be... Well, clean
not what you said, but it's good you do that!
Yes and for that you dont have to read books about it xD
you do
I recommend this one
I wouldnt understand it either way
it's pretty beginner friendly
https://refactoring.guru/ and this site
up to you if you consume em or not
I really started by watching youtube tutorials and that basically teached me the basics. Now i can just read other peoples code and try to understand it and obv. read the documenation and code a lot of things in the game
if that suffices your needs then for sure! You don't have to usain bolt into these books
but if by chance your goal is to make this your career
then the most healthy is that you at least bookmark these resources
😉
anyways, I have to go back to work, take care!
But i still think youtube video tutorials are the best for learning the basics quickly
it is
did not said otherwise
Alrighty, have a good day
That kinda sounded like that xD
but the interested people make the transition juuust fine
