On a blender rig

you both are wrong, they're bending but that's because of how the animation is. Ik just adds constraints to what you're making. So when you move the torso down the legs also move according to the torso, you can do this with a normal rig but you'd have to do it manually and it takes some times

if u couldnt move the torso down without an IK rig that wouldnt make sense at all
