its actually a very commonly told advice but it is true
there are a lot of people saying "oh i got this good in 4 months" or whatever time that feels short to you, and the reasons could be that they have past experience, and/or have spent an insane amount of time practicing and learning animation actively
because of this, people often get discouraged, including myself, who is a hobby animator and doesn't "practice" as often as some animators, thinking i'll never able to reproduce that kind of work
fact is, they probably have more time put into it than me, even if i have been animating for 7 years. it doesn't matter when you started, what matters is how much time you spent animating and actively learning. putting focus in animation. and if it came to that, i'd have a lot less time than some of the other animators out there
and i feel like the best way to think about it, is to just make stuff for yourself. do what you want, do what engages you, and explore the uncomfortable every once in a while. it's not fun learning fighting if you're doing a cutscene animation, but make a fight scene that you feel would be cool to you
